No, thats what fans think. "Change players and the rest will change!!"
The mindset has always been shortsighted with an eye on the short term. We hire MDA because he was a good name who ran a good system but no strong commitment to cultivating the players to the system. Changing the coach is easier. Woodson then coached to what he had on the roster. Nothing wrong with that but its not a "culture". If you empower your players over and over and make coaching changes it will improve the short term, but slowly your empowering the players over the system. What makes the Spurs successful? The team is bigger than any one player!!! Its the owners responsibility to cultivate and install a winning culture. Pop has over seen this in SAS and it drives all roster moves.
Simply making trades is an easy suggestion but what are you getting back in return? Im not saying don't trade, but the players deserve the opportunity to prove themselves. Some have, some have not.
We coming up to Dec 15th and that presents the first window to make any deals. Don't mean the floodgates will open and a stream of fresh talent will be available to us, but one never knows.
First change: Play the system. Don't like it? tough Noogies. Don't like the coach? Thats the players problem. If the culture was to bend the system to suite the players thats over. Coach says something you do it.
