Yep let's take it further

We should either be hoping for J.R. to opt in

or

Should he opt out Phil should pay him on his terms Carmelo style

All because we won yesterday

I'll join in on the parade of throwing this phrase around

Phil isnt trading picks to purge the roster but when you decline the option on Shane Larkin for $1.8mm your gutting the team. I would not be suprised if Melo and Calderon are the only guys left.

Phil will throw Triangle Pixie Dust on Larky &

Larky won't know what hit him, he'll stay

If not Phil will throw the TPD elsewhere

And find us another player to temporarily fall in love with

Take it to the bank -- there's no way JR is leaving $6-7mm on the table. Nobody's giving this clown that type of money. He's nuts if he doesn't take his player option...From the look of it, Phil tried very hard to unload this guy and couldn't, not even for Chris Copeland and not even to a team that lost a Paul George and Lance Stephenson...Unloading JR would've had a positive effect all-around: it would've freed up a good chuck of cap space; it would've ensured shump and THJ got enough time (Timmy's not getting a lot of time now); we probably would've picked up Shane Larkin's 3rd year (still can't believe they didn't the more I think about it); it would've made it that much easier to bring shump back eventually.

Still, I like the place we're in right now with our cap when you think about it, even with JR still on the books. Maybe Phil really has his eye on 2016 FA and elects to load up on a bunch of 1-yr deals this summer. He'll have that option and he'll have the cap flexibility to be very competitive with those 1-yr offers -- he'll be able to overpay in order to get the guys he wants in that tier of players. One way of looking at what he might do.. Maybe that's the way to go...Only thing - you'd hate to wait yet another year with Melo as far as putting together a top team goes. This guy's window won't be open forever. Kinda need to expedite the process as much as possible to ensure we still have Melo at the top of his game..

Agreed. If you can dump JR without their being a collateral damage, you dump JR. We could do much more with $6 million of cap space than we can with him under contract. The only negative to all of this is that it sounds as though the Pacers are uninterested in a firesale of their roster. We could use their players to put us into the fray of Eastern Conference contenders.

If not, I like yellowboy's idea of signing Tobias Harris and grooming him to be the new David West. The kid has got game but I'm still skeptical that Orlando let's him walk, even if we overpay. Rob Hennigan ain't no fool and seems to understand talent.

I am not so sure he is a PF anymore. He looks like he has shed some weight. For the right price I'd still like him though as the six man. I live in FL so I get to see a lot of Orl so I'll continue to keep my I on him.

Been trying to catch a few of their games but its been a bad week for me. Had been relying on Youtube highlights to reacquaint myself with his game. You don't think he could gain that weight back though? Even if he didn't, you don't think he is inherently bullish enough to hold his own down low?

One move can beget another so the how the dominoes are lined up is a mystery to us.

This feels like a planted story to me...to see who the snitch is, and as we all always knew, it's Berman. :)

Let's go Knicks. That's amare

Yep. Also, agree about the planted story. The source said the Knicks inquired about Cope. It didn't say the Knicks and Pacers discussed JR going to Indy.

I really don't see Phil getting rid of JR for Cope. JR is a wild card and this team actually needs another player who can step up and go off in games at any moment. I still get the feeling that a lot of Knick fans don't really appreciate how talented JR actually is. He's crazy and an air head but the dude is talented. When JR has it going he's electric. What we have to hope is to get a smarter Sixth Man of the Year version of JR.

Yeah, JR inquired about breast implants, but that doesn't mean he's getting them.

You better go hide in your bunker and lock it up tight, because the Melo Protectionist League is about to show you a world of pain.

I am part of the Protectionist League where appropriate. I have defended him many times against silly arguments that have no basis and is just hate.

I will also call him out if I don't like certain things that he does and continues to do.

That would make you a quasi-Protectionist then. Know your role.

sign me up --

anyone watch Wiz/Pacers? He looked good. His stroke is pure. He went for 19/12/4.

Missed some shots down the stretch. Can't exactly have him be your bread and butter but I think he has an obvious home here

Indiana needs JR Smith....Stuckey and c miles suck. I'm sure Bird is going to want us to take back some bull**** for a deal to work.

Truth is they need to think lottery. They need to trade west, and George hill. Give them to the Knicks for Bargnani and jr and stop playing.

edit: even better....trade us cope Scola and George hill for Bargs and jr smith

We can't think lottery as well???

What is JR's value now? Less than Cope I'd Imagine.
I get rid of JR for zero in return if he is a lockeroom problem. We need to clear his contract off the books. Time has come.
