Easy one for me, as their salaries, I would much rather have Jose Calderon
It is hard to swallow for some, in one point of their careers, both CP3 and Deron Williams were looking like the BEST PG in the league going back and forth during their first 6 seasons or so

After CP3, hurt his knee, it looked like Deron Williams could have seperated himself, however, instead he caught some injuries of his own and has never been the same
Some players are unable to further develop their games as they lose their physical abilties, however, Deron Williams didn't look like he would be one of those players till the past 2 seasons
Williams is not even a top 20 PG at this point and is getting the MAX salary, can he turn it around?
Possibly, but I wouldn't put my money on it

Bad ankles, max salary and a decidedly negative disposition makes Deron a bad bet. For that kind of money, I at least want someone who doesn't want to be somewhere else.

You know FG% already counts 3s? If they have the same FG% but Jose is much higher from 3 point range, it just means Deron is much higher from 2 point range

LOL

Thats why some people here dont like you Bonn. You use logic

Calderon - 47.9% FG (51% from 2......41% from 3pt)......87.4% FT
Williams - 45.3% FG (49% from 2......36% from 3pm)......81.7% FT

Not necessarily because both players are shooting a different volume of 2s and 3s. It looks like statandmelo is using last year's numbers which are :

2FG/2FGA 2FG% 3FG/3FGA 3FG% FG/FGA FG%
Williams 3.9/7.8 50% 1.7/4.7 36.6% 5/11.2 45%

Calderon 1.9/4.0 46.4% 2.4/5.2 44.9% 4.2/9.2 45.6%

Their career numbers are:

2FG/2FGA 2FG% 3FG/3FGA 3FG% FG/FGA FG%
Williams 4.8/9.7 49% 1.4/3.9 35.7% 6.2/13.6 45.3%

Calderon 2.8/5.5 51.2% 1.1/2.7 41.1% 3.9/8.2 47.9%

Now the joy of my world is in Zion How beautiful if nothing more Than to wait at Zion's door I've never been in love like this before Now let me pray to keep you from The perils that will surely come

Nixluva is posting triangle screen grabs, even when nobody asks - Fishmike. LOL So are we going to reference that thread like the bible now? "The thread of Wroten Page 14 post 9" - EnySpree

50 is much better than 46% from 2 point range, and because of volume, that difference is at least as important as a 10 point difference in 3 point shots.
I don't dispute the career #s. I was just using the #s statandmelo provided. I think both are good shooters but below average starting PGs.

Without even checking any other sites, I'll say that it doesn't take a genius to realize that one of you is probably using career stats (foos?) and the other (statandmelo?) stats from the most recent season.

To me, Deron Williams for 50-ish games is better than Calderon for 60 or 70-ish. His contract is icky but there is no saviour at PG down the road for us, so we might as well roll the dice on Williams who has greater star power and is younger. Maybe he could have a Baron Davis like rebound when he was traded to the Warriors.

From an X's and O's standpoint, I think Williams is a better fit. He's basically as efficient as Calderon and isn't close to being the defensive sieve. Realistically, Williams is big enough and strong enough to defend the 2 guard spot like Jason Kidd did for us back in the day. If Dragic re-signs with the Suns in the immediate future, I'd look into trading for Williams.
