Orlando will more than likely match but depending on the righting of the offer sheet it could give them a lot to think about. Who knws if the Stat geeks are right Cole Aldrich will become a starting center.
That would shorten the curve a great deal.Portland is in a pickle because they will have Aldridge, Matthews, and Lopez up. I don't care about Aldridge but the other two would be on my radar.
Players I think should get a look are
Dragic
Reggie Jackson
Afflalo
Matthews
Paul Millsap
Lopez
Vucevic
Reggie Jackson and Vucevic will both be RFA that year so they're most likely out and how good are either them really? I don't see how Millsap really fits next to Melo. Lopez is nothing more than a role player. Same with Matthews. Once you get past Gasol there really aren't any difference makers that make sense playing next to Melo.
Lopez is a player still growing. What kind of player was Gasol at 26? Anyway, give me a center that defends the rim, rebounds, can score okay, and pass well. Working out of the high post will get them a few ast a games if they are smart. For me give me the better rebounder and I will settle for a center who gives me everything Gasol has except with only half the assist.
Vucevic probably has all the tools you look for in a triangle Center with the exception of being a stellar defensive big. He is young and show signs but needs to be a better rim protector. If he could be had I would actually go after him harder if he continues to excel and grow like he has been. The problem with growing is that Orlando will likely do everything to keep him and should because he is only 23.
Millsap works with Melo because he works well in a movement offense. Millsap would go back to his comfort zone as a lower usage/efficient player. His outside shooting creates the space in the offense and he can work well in the high post area.
