Forget Melo-he will score in any system, it should make Bargs the player he was before he arrived

While I like the idea of Bargs playing better, it is important that Melo and JR become more efficient players and that as a team the scoring is spread a bit more evenly and efficiently. That's what the Triangle brings to this team. A chance to have everyone involved in the offense and get more efficient scoring.

3. Improved ball movement: The Knicks were heavily reliant on isolation last season. Carmelo Anthony led the league in isolation scoring, averaging 6.6 isolation points per game, according to Synergy Sports. That was more than 11 NBA teams. As an example of the teamwide isolation the Knicks espoused, New York ended the season ranked 24th in touches per possession and 25th in points created by assists per game.

The Knicks also ranked 24th in points per possession. Maybe there is a correlation there.

Needless to say, New York should move the ball more frequently this year thanks to the implementation of the triangle offense.

If the offense is run properly, open shots should be created on the perimeter and the midrange.

And if the Knicks can knock down jump shots at the same rate as they did last season, the triangle should make Phil Jackson's club much more effective on the offensive end.

Last year, the Knicks were second in catch-and-shoot field goal percentage and second in field goal percentage on shots within 12 feet off a pass.

So if the Knicks can increase open looks created by the pass, they should be an improved team on the offensive end. Which, we can presume, should lead to more wins and a spot in the Eastern Conference playoffs.

This is what I think...out of all our players, I believe Bargs will benefit the most...offensively

Honestly I'm really worried about Stat and Bargs, I think Bargs gt's swallowed up in too many options and I think Stat only has two options in his head, "getting buckets and Moving until he get's buckets"......

I agree about melo ( he will score in any system (including bargnani). They're just good offensive players. I think this will benefit shumpert (the cutting) and jr (bad shot selection)
Knicks should be improved: win about 40 games and maybe sneak into the playoffs. Melo, Rose and even Noah will have some nice moments however this team should be about PORZINGUS. the sooner they make him the primary player, the better

Great video but we cannot assume that the vet's will have the same exact effect for many reasons
While I like the changes and I am impressed with our summer league, Fisher and staff, and Phil Jackson's changes on a "winning culture"
I am not saying that they the vets cannot have the same exact success that the young guns are showing, I am saying it is not a guarantee it will be the same success for many reasons

1- Their competition level is much higher, whether on OFF or DEF

2- Players that are stuck to specific routines will have trouble breaking out of them, especially when they have been getting paid multi million dollar contracts while having financial "success" doing it

- Like JR Smith, while he has all the talent in the world, his infamous dribble dribble, step back jumper is not on the menu
He has a lot of bad habits, still a knuckle head, with CA and Tim Hardaway having that "gunner" mentality and our depth at SG, I would look to pump and dump him for upgrade at SF/PF, PG, PG/SG and or other positions preferably the first 2-3
Supposedly, he has been training 2x a day with CA, and is looking to get back in his prior NBA shape before his knee injury
He showed he was capable of being the #1 to #3 option, with the ability to score/facilitate/and initiate our offense prior to his contract, with Kidd/Wallace etc mentoring him
However, he needs the speed/quickness/athleticism/nba shape that he missed last season in order to do it with consistency
During that year, he was a very good rebounder and defender as well, hoping he turns it around if he stays but I question his maturity/BB IQ, so I would look to trade him to The Buck's if we can get back Ilyasova/Sessions/Edoh

Ilyasova, Sessions, and Edoh are players I would target without trading our 1st rounders with the Bucks, even Delfino who has a team option after this season would fit in well in a TEAM system, we could never have enough shooters/HIGH IQ players, though HEALTH/AGE will be a question
Offering a combination of contracts from JR Smith/Pablo/Ellington and 1 of our young talents *hope to keep both Early/Thanasis

Instead of using our full 3.3m on Jason Smith, grabbing a similar talent for the vet min in Ed Davis, Drew Gooden, or slightly more for players like James Johnson/Dejuan Blair/Dante Cunningham *who is still a UFA*, then using the rest of it to sign Thanasis to a 3 year deal instead of only a 2 year deal would have a great impact with his work ethic/defensive intensity/ and athleticism/versatility possibly defending 2-3 positions
We should cut ties with Pablo if we cannot trade him, possibly even adding 2 PG's with one being a PG/SG like Darrius Morris
Shannon Brown could be an assistant or development coach if we do not have enough roster spots and he has interest, I think he brings much value in terms of development and running the system however we are lacking the roster spots

- CA showed the ability to move the ball last season, however, he didn't have the scorers to fill it in, however, Woodson has enabled his 1v1 and flaws

- AB/STAT showed flashes of what they could do, especially at C, he was horrible at PF for the most part, fortunately, he no longer has to team up with Tyson Chandler which was a horrible fit from the start, especially with CA at the SF, STAT is one of our best deep position players, he is a horrible defender but does give effort at times
With so many PF/C in addition to our C's, we need to find the right combination of rotations in order to FIT in with our lineups, especially when we use CA at the SF
Each combination of players has their strengths/weakness's, fortunately we no longer have Tyson Chandler who is not a scoring option period and has losses his athleticism/mobility/DEF/REBOUNDING *tapping out should not be considered a rebound*,

- The rest...

Iman Shumpert *will be a RFA after this season, able to get an extension or find a team willing to give him a future contract*
Jason Smith, Jeremy Tyler, Cole Aldrich, Dalembert, Ellington, Kmart?? are all players looking to fit in the system but are looking to get paid for their future contracts, while all getting limited minutes/opportunities to do well

3- The young guns have the combination of speed/quickness/mobility/athleticism that have an effect on both OFF and DEF

4- These guys are trying to BUY IN in to coaches in order to get a contract and earn minutes, hopefully Melo is able to play system basketball and understand his abilities and winning is far above any numbers he may put up

5- We have some vets on the final year of the contract, they are looking to get paid, and they want to be able to showcase their skills/abilities and get the best numbers possible in order for leverage when the season ends

I am not trying to bring up the past to knock on anyone on our roster but with

Lin/TD/Baron Davis
Shumpert/JR Smith/Fields
Fields/Novak/JR Smith
Novak/JJ
Chandler/Novak

We already showed what we were capable of when we played as a team
However, prior and after *Linsanity*, our team was unable to play at a high level on OFF and DEF
When playing as team, Novak/JJ/Chandler/Fields looked like ALL STAR's in addition to Lin
The ball was moving, hitting the open man, we were playing good DEFENSE *with great rotating/help DEFENSE*, much of it was lead by

Tyson Chandler in the middle and Iman Shumpert initiating havok, while applying pressure on the PG or playing the SG as a lockdown type defender prior to his injury
With Fields and JJ playing the fill in role, VERY WELL, their versatility was very much under rated and a big part of the success we had
Not only did Fields/JJ offer help DEFENSE but their versatility was utilized greatly with their ability to handle the ball/post up/initiate an offense/ and go for rebounds with good shot selection

Novak was just NOT used as a spread option, they set him screens/double screens with Lin penetrating and drawing help defense in order for Novak to get those open looks, especially with JJ who was very under rated
Despite that, Woodson chose to use Novak as a "decoy" instead of getting him involved more the way he was utilized, instead of actually setting plays for him in order to get get looks, getting his confidence and playing in rhythm

However, once our ALL STAR's returned, we were unable to play that same TEAM concept with more "TALENT" on the floor but less "TEAM BB IQ", unselfishness
Lin MOVED the ball, he always gave it to the open man

Again, do not take this as a Knock to any players, especially CA, I am pointing out how we played differently despite showing the success we already had
However, with Phil Jackson and Derek Fisher, and CA earning his future contract *with a no grade clause*, there is a chance that he does CHANGE his ways and fully utilizes his playmaking abilities
They have both said on multiple occasions that CA and the rest of the team needs to buy in the system, trust their team mates, and understand that NOTHING is greater than the game/system itself, sacrificing shot attempts in order to keep the rest of the players as scoring threats and being involved in the game mentally in order to get consistent, high % shots, and not take those poor shots unless time is running out on the shot clock

He is our best player, he needs to resemble leadership, understanding/sacrificing his shot attempts and expending his energy on other stuff like DEF/REBOUNDS/SETTING PICKS/TAKING CHARGES *especially at the PF*, and BUY in to the system that would allow the role players to be involved in the game, getting open looks
With the triangle, we no longer need them to stand around and wait for CA, JR Smith, even STAT/AB to take turns looking to score but instead have constant ball/player movement and attack our opponents DEF as a team, making them exert the most possible energy/stamina instead of resting/standing around as those players go 1v1 majority of the plays

For next summer, 2015-16 season, we are looking to fully utilize our cap space and upgrade our talents
I think Phil Jackson is looking to use
2015 1st round pick
2018 1st round pick
in addition to other assets, possibly some 2nd round picks from 2018 and after
Even consider 2020 1st round pick for talents like Lebron/Durant/Noah/Aldridge

and somewhere in between for players like Kevin Love

We can straight up sign some players like Kevin Love if he doesn't get traded to Cleveland and possibly even GS
Another interesting player would be Bledsoe who make just sign the qualifying offer in addition to Dragic likely opting out

Jeff Green/Thad Young both have team options
And Wilson Chandler has a team option

Asik/DeAndre Jordan

Tony Parker/Ginobili/Duncan

Rhondo/Marc Gasol are both good players but I don't think they are MAX players in my opinion

Lin *at the right price from 3m-5mm he is a marketing machine for Asia*

^^^^^ We finished that season 18-6 and won 50 games and the division title the next, I really have a hard time believing you have to go back to Linsanity to find the team playing good team ball. Idk, I guess the way we started and finished 2012-13 the team didn't look that good to some.............

We need to let last year go. It was a disaster for many reasons. IMO that set of circumstances won't be repeated because they were unique to that time. Everyone performed below career levels except Melo. That's not likely to happen with good coaching and a proven system. Phil has made some meaningful changes to the roster. This team is being refashioned to better fit the Triangle. The vets we have like Melo, JR, Bargs and STAT should be able to adapt their games very well to the sets in the Triangle. They all have skills that fit the Triangle like a GLOVE!!! All 4 of them can catch and shoot and hit from midrange. All are skilled offensive players, so it makes no sense to think they can't work in a system that creates one on one scoring situations close to the basket by design.

Melo, STAT, Bargs and JR can all score in the Pinch Post, which is a key to success in the Triangle. All 4 can beat their man off the dribble or face up and hit the jumper. It makes a difference being in a system where there is ball and player movement which will leave these scorers in prime position to do what they do. Just watch the video again and imagine any one of these 4 in a post up or 2 man game and try to explain how they won't excel in these sets. Whichever player gets the post feed or hand off pass will be in a one on one scoring situation by design or they will have an open player to pass to. Just takes practice to get the flow.

Ronron...yikes. that was way too much to read. The title was about the triangle offense but it drifted into making trades.

Anyways I think it's safe to say that the triangle is a great offense and it's here to stay. The idiots who can't learn it or refuse to learn it will leave. The roster this yr is not a finished product. Phil and fish simply inherited alot of left over garbage. You can't win with losers like jr or bargnani. Phil is smart enough to know that so they'll be gone. Amare still has some game but he's injury prone. If he's willing to return for the vet mini I'd be ok with that

Knicks should be improved: win about 40 games and maybe sneak into the playoffs. Melo, Rose and even Noah will have some nice moments however this team should be about PORZINGUS. the sooner they make him the primary player, the better

I don't know that Phil actually is thinking this way. He does know that there are better players, but how will he get those players? I'm sure he's targeting Marc Gasol but it's up to Marc where he goes after his contract is up. We can't control what FA's decide to do. Therefore it's imperative that we develop the players we do have as best we can. In that regard it's important that he finds a way to get the most out of JR and Bargs. If for nothing else than to increase the value of JR and Bargs, there will be a concerted effort to develop them and get them playing at a high level. Not to mention that this would help the current team as well. It's the practical thing to do. Both JR and Bargs have considerable talent and haven't always maximized that talent. I'm pretty sure Phil and Fish intend to change that and get them playing at a higher level.

And in terms of the guy who wants to run it with a 5th grade team, it can be done. BUT it would take a lot of practice time to teach it all and the reads. And usually practice at that level is only once or twice a week right?

I just wanted to tell you guys that my CYO 5th grade boys travel team had our 1st game using the triangle offense. We have been practicing for about 1.5 months 3 times a week...yeah I am crazy and my players parents are very gung ho too. We played really well and won 39-8. We were also pressing and ran on TOs and off defensive rebounds but we got more than half of our points off the triangle offense. I had to stop pressing when we were up 15 and stopped fast break when we were up 20.

Triangle offense really is a nice offense to watch when the players are commited to it. The other team only played zone defense and it worked great. The corner baseline shot was always open intially and when they adjusted my wing and high post were open.

Can't wait for next weekend.

How is it fifth graders can understand the triangle, but professional NBA players can't?

One thing that I was very adamant about my team was when my weakside wing would flash to the top of the 3pt line. I have my team waiting until we have decided that we can't pass to the high post before we flash. This is because whoever is covering that wing will bring his man to the middle and help on wing cut in the middle for a handoff from the high post. In the Knicks offense, Melo's seems to gravitate to the weakside a lot for him to get iso or PnR situation in the weakside and they flash way to early not giving enough time for the pass to the high post. This all starts and ends with Melo. If he buys into the system then it will work.

I also stress spacing where I would have them run suicides in practice when somebody breaks spacing.
