I bet Rambis is getting that feeling in his spine just watching the kids play like a team. Nothing better than to have players actually applying what you teach them.

The real test is guys like JR (and Anthony). IF they can get thru to himthem that will really be a huge change.

Does Anthony put his entire effort into playing like we've seen our SL players play the Triangle?

Karl had some issues with how Anthony played, and we know how Anthony played for MDA. Both these guys played non-ISO offensive schemes.

Is it hard to come up with an answer as to why he got along well with Woodson, who basically allowed Melo to do what he wanted? You can say that Anthony did not feel comfortable giving the ball up to teammates at crucial moments because he did not trust them, but when you have an offense that freezes out players, causes them to stand and watch, and doesn't reward them if they are open, how do you expect them to be prepared to take the big shot.

It will be fascinating to see how Fisher and Phil sell the Triangle to Melo in training camp, and how Anthony reacts when he finds that he has to move around a lot without the ball.

Should be an interesting camp.

Obviously they sold him on the idea from jump, he was saying this when woodson was coaching, but between woodson, Felton and JR's lack of production, the ball constantly ended up in melos hand.

You see the thing what killed us the most, was not having a PG who can tell melo chill out, other guys need the ball. Thats what fisher did with kobe and durant, and thats what phil likes about fisher. He's not afraid to tell a susper star/all star, no.

It's like this chick I work with, she's so fine, so smart, and so aggressive, but she's single. Asked her why is she single, she said she hates guys that can't say no to her, and all she really wanst is a guy thats not caught up her on her looks and body, and could tell her no and stand by it. She doesnt want a push over, or some jealous raving fool, and she's had quite a few of those

Thats what i get from players who play with Melo, he can score so easy, that when he ask for the ball, or even when he doesn't, players will go out of their way to get it to him, even if hit means shutting the rest of the team out.

Thats what Made the jason kidd an ideal pg for melo.

I honestly think Melo wants no part of doing it all by himself after last year. He nearly killed himself playing so hard with no help. It was obvious that he was gassed at the end of games and it makes no sense for any team to play that way. Now we have a coach and system that will allow everyone to be involved and take the load off Melo's shoulders, LITERALLY.

I don't think that was the issue at all, he had help, but didn't utilize the help properly. How are you suppose to win when the enitire team relies on jump shots. If your not getting to the free throw line, your not winning games, if one guy is scoring most of your points, your not winning games, and finally, even if you have the most mediocre talent in the NBA, if everyone on the team buys in, and plays unselfish, you can win 45 games on that alone.

The problem is that you had a "pecking order" offense last year.

Folks who have played a pickup game with a very good ball player who we defer to much of the time, especially when a big shot is needed, know that at some point you don't put in the effort on offense when you realize you are not going to be rewarded with a touch. You also end up with players having the attitude that they are going to jack up the shot when they actually do get the ball, because they might not see it again.

This is why we had a stand around offense so many times last year, and it was predictable and boring for much of the time.

If the SL is a true indication of change it is going to be fascinating to see how Anthony adapts and Fisher deals with him when he is not doing what he is supposed to do.

As was pointed out above, Anthony seemed to do better with guys like Billups and Kidd- veterans with a title's under their belts. Hopefully he sees Fisher's 3 rings and pays homage by fitting into a system. Seems that he did OK in the Olympics when he was playing with other superstars... hopefully this is an indication of how he can fit in here.

He actually also miss some of the same players because they had worse years and some of them didn;t show up until the hole was already dug.

I was seeing the signs early on that Woody was building a disaster. He made all the wrong decisions and set the team up for failure. Not just him but Dolan had his part he played in the disaster of last year. Now we no longer have that rot from the top. We have Phil and Fish setting a new tone already with the SL team. Those kids are going to come in with the right attitude already. They're learning to be a team already. That process will continue in Training Camp. The entire point of Phil adopting the Triangle was to foster a team first culture. Phil believes in that and won't tolerate anything less. Fish has been immersed in "team first" culture his entire career. He's not gonna tolerate anything less. Knick fans need to accept that this is the new reality of the franchise. Everything they've done so far has reinforced this fact.

Melo is going to be surrounded by this new attitude and that will have an impact on his mental approach as well. It's really all about the new Culture. "Team First" being preached and practiced every day will make a difference for everyone including Melo.

nix, I saw it coming in our 2nd preseason game when we lost by 40 to the celtics and woodson brush it off(along with 80% of the posters on this board) as if it was just a preseason game.

The yr before that I saw an intense defensive energy in the our very first preseason game that i had not seen in yrs, I knew we were in for a special season.

Well this year is the COMPLETE OPPOSITE of the signs we got last year. SO far the way that they're handling SL and our young players is a sign that they want to change the culture here and it's already showing benefits.

Always an issue when the coach realizes that the superstar has more power than he does.

We can hope for a much more team oriented approach this year. That's really all that we can hope for at this point. We've got some nice young additions and the young Knicks have all been taking to the team approach very well. The way this SL team has shown an early handle on this system is very encouraging. They didn't even get flustered at the close of a game when things broke down. They just reset and ran a good play. Woodson couldn't do that with an entire Training Camp and full Season.

he had help? Please clarify.

Melo had a very efficient season and had very little to no help.

I agree with your post but most of that crap was due to our idiot enabling coach.

Always an issue when the coach realizes that the superstar has more power than he does.

In some ways, Anthony got Woodson his job... and I think Woodson knew this.

Woody was just not a good coach. I seen this after his first playoff series with us. I recently bumped the thread from 2012 where I stated his faults. Those same faults were present last season.

Also it is an issue when the players realize the coach has no power at all. Remember he had to keep Chris Smith, wasn't allowed to play Amare and Kmart, was told who his starting two guard was, and no trades were made to help the roster or remove some of the guys that contributed to all of the dysfunction. Glad there is a new boss in place.
