It's funny how some of us can just poo poo the idea of a player like Bargs playing better even after Phil goes out of his way to bring in a PG that helped Bargs play some of his best BB. The system is probably one of the best fits for a player like Bargs. There are no guarantees, but Phil feels good about the chances of Bargs having a bounce back season. You think Jose hasn't already talked to Bargs about playing together again? Another look at how Bargs can play when he's confident, which he wasn't last year. I talked him up last year based on what I felt he could do if used properly. Woodson didn't do that and thus we didn't see the best we could get from Bargs. Maybe this year we will. Also it's a contract year and he's only 28. Bargs has something to play for this year that for most players usually guarantees a player will give his best. |

Forgive me if I am skeptical that a career underachiever is going to turn it around this year, his 9th season My only hope for him this year is that he doesn't get traded for someone with a longer contract. EXPECTATIONS are what makes it seem like he's been a career underachiever. They assumed he was better than he was. The real Bargnani is just not as good as many believed he was supposed to be. Now dealing with the real player there are some positives you can get from him if you give him the right role in the scheme. For one things he's 7ft tall and skilled offensively. He's a career top Pick and Pop player so that should be priority #1, to get him into more PnP plays and near the basket in the Triangle. I'm hoping they got him on some kind of off season conditioning program. He needs to be in top shape this year. I think he's been skating for most of his career in terms of his conditioning. If i'm his coach I have him drilling rebounding the ball and refining his technique, but that's just me. I don't know what Fish is gonna do with Bargs but I hope he attacks his weaknesses and has him work to improve. The same goes for STAT. Clearly players can get better with work as STAT improved his post moves showed. IMO it's up to the coach to make it a priority. |

![]() Yes if you only listen to the negative Nancy's you'd think Bargs never did anything or showed any talent whatsoever. He clearly has talent and it's up to the coach to put him in the best situation. Last year the entire team was in shambles and that wasn't a good environment for Bargs to succeed. This system is a better fit for his talent and we added his favorite PG. I think it's a good situation for Bargs to have a bounce back season. He could've had one last year if we had better coaching. |

![]() I don't think you can rationally expect Bargs to stay healthy this year.
I thought he was going to help - I thought the trade, except for the 1st round pick, was a decent one. I wanted Bargs to do well - and still do. However, I don't expect any contribution, and would prefer to buy him out and give his roster spot to one of the players from the summer league roster. |

![]() franco12 wrote:I don't think you can rationally expect Bargs to stay healthy this year. Why wouldn't Bargs be able to stay healthy? He had an arm injury. How many players have knee problems that ruin their careers? Bargs isn't having Knee problems. If he's in shape this year he should be able to play solid minutes for us. The man has had no knee issues and really that's the thing to be most concerned with when it comes to BB players. To read your words you'd think Bargs did nothing last year when in fact for the early part of the year he was our 2nd best player. He did 13/5/1.2 blks under a horrid coach and a team that was severely underperforming. It's not hard to see Bargs increasing those numbers at the least offensively. It's a lie to suggest that he can't contribute anything. I can't even take that kind of comment seriously. IN November Bargs was doing 16/6/1.3 blks and he was shooting 47% and 37% from 3 in 33 mpg. I'm convinced that Bargs can be a productive player for this team with this system. |

Phil is turning into a shrewd options trader. You couldn't give Bargs away right now. Talk him up, pump him up, and hopefully the value starts to rise. I am rightfully dreaming about seeing another few surprise draft picks in our future. |

People think because he talks up a player that it means he really thinks that. Too funny. Would be funny to hear him talk up Felton if he could not get rid of him. "Ray Ray has a lot of heart and if used correctly can really make the knicks a great team. His assist : turnover ratio blah blah blah" Hey look. Phil think that Felton is good. He must have just been misused by our bonehead coach. so here is what phil is thinking ....

![]() 16/6 - those are better numbers than Tim Thomas - a guy I used to compare him to - as a guy that looks like he should be capable of doing more - more consistently.
For what it's worth, aren't those like... Chandler Parsons numbers? And didn't he sign a contract for more than what Bargs is making?
