But we could try to move up in the draft for once packaging our pick with Shump,Hardaway or Larkin type deal.

sorry dude, but this is one of the dumbest ideas Ive read in a while. You wanna trade JR if he's playing well and consistent, and you wanna trade draft day steals that have proven themselves, for an unknown high pick, that may or may not work out..

Explain to me how this makes an ounce of sense

Buy low sell high. Not trying to dump JR would be one of the dumbest ideas I've heard in a while...

We're not winning anything this year most likely. With Amar'e, Bargs and Sammy, don't we have enough vet experience up front? If I'm Phil, I don't close any doors. Why not try to uncover another young player with some upside?

You win with vets. He probably feels he has enough kids right now and needs someone who can be relied on to get the job done.

Here's how I feel on this -- I hear what you're saying, I just don't necessarily agree, esp. when it comes to "older" vets. There are quite a few younger vets I either would've liked for us or still like: Jordan Hill, Jerryd Bayless, etc. I just know those two have plenty of basketball left in them, hopefully at a high level... Just not feeling the long in the tooth guys, the ones that don't have much left in the tank. It's just hard for me to get overly excited watching guys like that...Those are the guys I could do without, esp. in a transition year when we're probably at least a season away from doing anything significant. The older guys that cost too much (we just got outbid on Birdman, right? Good, I didn't want him -- he works on a team that's ready to win it all like Miami of the last few years, not the Knicks. Don't love his game anyway -- just mho), the guys that break down and can't withstand the physical stress over an 82 game schedule + playoffs (Jason Kidd, Rasheed Wallace, Kurt Thomas, K-Mart), guys that can't get up and down the floor with younger players anymore, or can't guard quicker/younger/faster players anymore, etc.. To me, there's nothing exciting about watching a team filled with players like that...I suspect Pablo might be joining this group soon (if he's not already there), maybe even Calderon too. I understand you need a good mix -- I just would always tilt toward having more younger, exciting players--that's just me. I feel it's a young man's game and developing/uncovering young talent gets my juices flowing (not to mention something that could serve us real well moving forward from here)...I mean Brooklyn makes this big splash for the Ticket & Pierce a year ago and you just knew right away that that wasn't nearly enough for a chip, even with D-Will. Prokhorov was talking like he had those two in his prime...I laughed when he made that deal, be perfectly honest with you...A little bit I don't like those two guys anyway--never did, even when they were good, but that aside, I couldn't really get that excited about watching a team like that if I were a Nets fan. Come on -- those guys don't have anything left! If you're close, I can see taking a shot at guys like that -- I don't think we're there yet.

As far a PG goes, Calderon isn't enough of a vet presence? He can shoot, he can initiate and he's experienced. He's also got a few things that his older body doesn't allow him to do. He's fine, I'll look at him with the glass half full for the time being (I like him better than Pablo) -- I just don't want to see him backed up by the very similar, not even as good Pablo Prigioni. That PG tandem just doesn't excite me at all. Phil obviously feels differently -- on today's broadcast with Crispino & Clyde, he said Amar'e's best position is probably the 5, he lauded Dalembert at center but failed to talk about Aldrich -- I know he just brought him back and I applaud him for doing so -- just get the feeling that he's more of a 13th-15th guy to Phil; to me, he'd be my starting 5...Then he talked about Bargnani at the 5, how he should benefit from the triangle and from playing with Calderon and Prigioni -- no mention of Larkin really, except to say quickly a little later that "he can shoot." I dunno man -- Aldrich is the C who really excites me. And out of our 3 PGs, Larkin excites me the most by far. I'd actually like to see us get even one more younger/dynamic/exciting player at each position (PG & big). To me, Calderon along with Fisher from the sidelines is enough vet PG experience to have around (I know Fisher doesn't play; he's the coach, but but you get the idea). Pablo is overkill. Calderon's fine -- now gimmie Larkin and one more young/dynamic ball-handler. Perfect world I'd actually like to see Larkin + one more young ball-handler with potential/upside we pick up somewhere (Jerryd Bayless?) see a majority of the time at the point, with Calderon backing them up as 3rd PG...Same in the middle -- sounds like Phil likes Amar'e in the middle, then he talked about Sammy and Bargs (now collectively, aren't those 3 enough of a vet presence up front? I think so -- anymore would feel like overkill to me), yet failed to mention Aldrich. Aldrich is a guy I'd like to see Fisher lean on -- then give me even one more young impact big on this roster (someone to replace K-Mart off the bench & someone better than Tyler who I'm not feeling at all). Just how I see it.
