This article does not seem to be accurate. If they sign Melo using cap space after Bosh goes, they should not be able to use the cap exceptions to sign McRoberts and Granger. The regular cap space would have to be used for them. They still have the cap holds for the big 3, but if Bosh leaves, and it blows up, they don't get the mid level exception and LL exception because they will already be under the cap including cap holds, is that correct? So McRoberts and Granger would be a $7M hit to the cap space making it that much harder.

I am not a cap expert but Berger is one of the best at his craft in my opinion. If he made a mistake my guess is he will 'update' the article.

I like Berger, but he seems to have become a Laker homer the past few years! All his articles about the Lakers are basically love letters.

It is definitely a mistake. McRoberts and Granger would have to come out of available cap space in his scenario. Cap exceptions are essentially cap holds. They must be renounced to use available cap space. Riley signed those guys based on the Big 3 coming back. If one of them doesn't, he must use available cap space to sign both players, total of 7 million. Making the numbers work are even harder than he thinks.

Seems like the article was updated to show this info.

I think this scenario opened up once Houston offered Bosh the max, which maybe, Lebron and Melo weren't expecting, which is why they haven't decided yet. It's probably what gave Melo a whoa whoa whoa holdup moment to think about, otherwise he would have signed by now, LA, NY, wherever.

What I don't get, is that this has been the case for the last couple of days, and if so, why hasn't Pat the Rat just told Bosh to **** off and take the money in Houston and make Melo and Lebron the offer.

I guess we'll find out tomorrow, since he is meeting with Lebron in Vegas, if this is what Lebron wants.

And Bosh, damn, no pride in this man if this is the case. The dude is still sitting on his hands waiting for Lebron to make a decision so he can take less money to play with him. Dude has a contending team waiting for him in his home state, one in which he would be a great fit, and can make noise, but his soft ass is just waiting like a girl by the phone waiting for her cheating man to call.

Well based on that Berger article it seems like threat of Melo going to Miami isn't realistic. No way Wade, James and Melo are playing for salaries in the 14-18 mm range to make the numbers work. If Bosh leaves Miami he really screws them- they'd have to settle for a 2nd or 3rd tier FA.

This still seems like the master plan to me, served by all the waffling and stalling we're seeing from LBJ and Melo. It will be done soon when Bosh is forced to accept Houston's offer. If true, I'm a little surprised at the level of manipulation and teasing going on. Maybe Lebron didn't anticipate the Cleveland public's reaction and this crazy build up that has happened, but he will be sooo much more hated by Cleveland and others, perhaps more than after the original decision. Even the chasing-shadows media will be butthurt and probably whine about the manipulation and the process.

As for Melo it's clear that NY is his fallback option at best. I'm honestly not too mad at him as I can understand the move from a winning perspective, given his career timetable. NY simply does not offer the best chance in the immediate future. I would not be surprised to see Melo live up to his "take less money" comments and do so in order to join the Heat. Disappointing but not unreasonable that he wouldn't be buying into the NYK vision at this point in his career.

Hope I'm wrong and Lebron announces a return to Cleveland today!

Maybe Cleveleand never had a shot at Lebron, like 0%, and leaked all that stuff to make him seem even worse? After that letter to Lebron from the owner I wouldn't put anything past him.
