This Lakers talk w/ Carmelo feels like one of two things: either he is angling for full max from Knicks or trying to force a S&T to Chicago.

Haven't heard anything from the Knicks camp that refutes his max offer so it might be the latter. If Melo is doing that, then I hope Phil lets him walk unless its a really good deal.

Agreed...to add to that, they don't have a coach as of yet, and they finished second to last in western conference last year. I don't see LA as a legit option....

Here's my take. Leon Rose, Melo's agent is leaking this info about the Lakers being serious contender to land Melo as a negotiation ploy. Perhaps Melo is not going to take the max, but Leon Rose wants as much as he can get, maybe somewhere around $115 mil. I know its out there that the max is on the table, but Phil would prefer that Melo take less as Melo has stated. But what is less? That's whats being discussed during negotiation IMO....and this sudden Laker interest is a way to snatch up every last penny by Rose...

Makes no sense. If we told him he can get the max then his agent doesn't need to negotiate anything.

Has to be, because the timing is just weird. Melo visits the Lakers and they say LA isnt in considerations and the meeting was bad. Now all of a sudden they are in the game because of the Max?

This seems like a play to make Carmelo take the max without negativity from fans and that wont work. I'd rather trade him to Chicago for assets.

Melo has said he is all about winning, but pushing for the max after saying he would take less to have a winning team is weak.

Want the money? Ok, enjoy Chicago. We'll move forward either way.
