With Melo, I'll take Gasol. Push for the here and now, and make the power play on Marc next year. Without Melo, I'll take Hill. He's been solid in LA, good motor.

Hmmmm. They both look about the same and not great defensively. Their per 100 defensive ratings were OK but opponent PERs pretty bad: Gasol's was a disastrous 20.3, and Hill's was a below average 18.3. (15.0 is average, and you want your opponent producing as little as possible obviously. So the lower the # the better.) They both have pretty bad on/off +/- #s. I haven't looked at the tracking #s on nba.com yet.
