We wouldn't be able to get Parsons because Houston declined his option making him a RFA. That means we would have to agree to a S&T and we can't receive S&T players because we're too far over the cap.

I thought we could still do sign and trades, we just had less leeway in getting the salaries to match?

We can S&T our own free agents, that's fine. What we can't do is S&T for other team's free agents because we would almost certainly be over the luxury tax apron after the trade.

Wow. I wonder if that is why reports are that Morey is very confident that he can move Lin and Asik.

Knowing Morey, he probably declined Parsons option specifically so we couldn't ask for him to be included in such a trade. I would HATE to lose Melo for nothing to that a**hole! Hasn't he screwed us enough times?!

I know and taking back his mistakes would make it worse.

Urgh!

I'd honestly rather deal with the Bulls- we could not only get a pick this year, but it would also be higher than any the rockets could give us in the future. Not sure why people see the Rockets as the more attractive option- no chance of Parsons, lower picks than Chicago and Lin isn't a good fit for the triangle- only player you're getting really is Asik who we could just sign next offseason.

I Love how people try to compare Lebron to Jordan as the best player ever... Lebron isn't even in the same atmosphere... Jordan never needed rival hof players to win champs... He wanted to prove to the world he was the best ever and he did, by not recruiting other hof players he had hate for. Same with all the stars before Jordan as well... Like bird would have joined magic lol or west joining Frazier.

If you don't want guys to leave don't make your team/organization a horrible dysfunctional mess. Don't negotiate opt outs in their deals. Don't allow tax breaks to make some states so much more attractive to play in.

Even if we took back $0 salary in any Melo deal our cap number would still be $77M, about $13M over the projected cap for next year.

Ah- so if Melo opts out, does that wipe his salary off our books and bring us back below the Apron? So then would we be allowed to S&T him in return for another player who is being S&T'd?

Wow! If that's the case, than the bulls do make more sense. I like Terence Jones tho. I might prefer him over Parsons at this point.

Well we're on $91mil, then minus $23.5mil if Melo opts out, that brings us down to $67.5mil. The luxury tax is $71.7mil, and the aron is $4mil over that, I just don't get if you're allowed to go over the apron to do a S&T, or whether it's just the starting point that matters.

Either way, I'm not a fan of Parsons.

It would be- Melo and Harden are not defensive monsters, to put it lightly! A void of leadership, and not enough shots to go round.

Lin and Asik both come off the cap after next season. If Melo walks next season is a throwaway anyway. So who cares if they are mistakes! They turn into cap space in '15!

+1 on all points. If they will include Parsons, great but it would be only so we could trade him. He's a nice player but he's about to be badly overpaid.

Melo for Lin, Parsons, 2 first round picks (which would prob be around 25 to 30), and returning our 2 second round picks (2014, 2015) would be reasonable. Those second round picks might be around 35. I'd love to get more but don't see it happening.

I'd rather have Asik than Lin- not sure if Lin would suit the triangle, plus I think you could actually move Asik on and get a pick or something.

No one prefer striking a deal with the Bulls than the Rockets?

I'd prefer dealing with Chicago, something link Melo for Boozer, both of their 2014 1st, and Mirotic is at least a good jumping off point for a deal. The only reason I would do a Houston deal involving Asik and Lin is if I thought we could flip Asik somewhere else for assets, like OKC, and we think Lin can have a bounce back year and be traded for assets at the deadline.

I don't see Melo as a perfect match for Houston. Their biggest issue was last playoffs was defense and coaching, not offense.

Exactly. I was thinking from the view of us getting nothing back for him though which is why I thought it'd be so bad. But Melo and Harden just don't seem like a good fit to me.

It's not the starting point that matters it's where our cap number ends up after the S&T. So if we're doing a S&T with Melo for Parsons the most we could take back and stay under the apron is around $14M.

Parsons at $10-12m is not overpaying. He is better than hallow who makes $10

You can still add free agents

It would be kind of ironic though- Morey the man famed for his advanced metrics and money ball approach, and he ends up just signing three max stars, including Melo who isn't really famed for his efficiency.

If melo leaves I would love for him to go to Houston. We could get Lin back and dump Felton on them as well... Houston would be a disaster with Howard,harden,melo... And I would love every second of it plus I'd love to see Lin,jr,shump, amare, brags with Timmy 6th, hoping we trade Tyson for draft picks screw that duche as well. In a rebuild year not bad

Melo for Lin/Asik/Parsons would be ok in my book. The worst thing we can do it max out Melo, would cripple the team for seemingly forever.
