IWG not sure why we not targeting Ewing?, IWG not reading the posts thru the years of this ongoing discussion.
BTW, only because he was who he was is not the qualification to hire him as head coach. Just because fans loved him 20 years ago is not a qualification for him to lead this team. Im sure many of you would be very happy but thats a nice thought, a "feel good" hire that lasts as long until he actually succeeds with his team.
There is no corelation between what he did on the court and how he would be as a head coach. We have seen many players succeed, and many were role players. We have seen few "stars" rise to be great head coach's. Ewing might be the greatest coach in the making, but there has not been any evidence to that effect to warrent a starphuch hiring.
Not saying he'd be horrible, but if we are just hiring a decent coach your hiring him on name mostly.
Bobcats had an opening for head coach and went with Steve Clifford and hired Ewing as Assistant. Jordan is his buddy and if he was ever to get a head gig I think this was a great chance for him, but it never happend.
He was given a chance to be head coach of our D-league team and turned it down. I think it was done out of respect and he might have been told its not a prerequisite to the knicks job as it won't happen. As it were, I doubt last season he would have been that much more successful than Woodson and with PHil coming in and wanting to install his system with his people, it would be awkward to fire him.
These are my opinions on all the stuff I have read.
