I think you can get an upgrade without taking on Calderon and I'm not sure Dallas would give him up anyway. A pg as bad offensively as Felton but with better D is an upgrade.

Calderon is a decent PG but expensive and would kill our flexibility. I think that would be a terrible move.

so here is what phil is thinking ....

I wouldn't say it would kill flexibility but it would deter it for a player that is defensively challenged and already on his last legs.

I think Tyson market is pretty good considering Scola got Phx 2 players and a 1st. Scola is not even a starter and lacks D, doesn't rebound, and is not efficient.

I think phx is a good Tyson destination since they are looking to make a run. Plus they have one of the better medical staffs and the dry heat might be just what Tyson needs to beast.

Exactly. It wasn't a bad trade idea. I spent some time thinking about it. Calderone is an adequate player but not good enough to justify taking on another $20 mil in salary IMO. With cap space in a year, we should be able to get something better for $7 mil per than Calderone.
Like who? Have another PG signed in the last few years you can use as a context?

Exactly, lets save all our $ for 2015, and end up signing some below avg pg like felton.

what kind of core are we going to have in 2015, I thought the object is to add a significant piece or 2 to the puzzle, not to assemble an entire roster that needs 2 to 3 yr to grow and build chemistry.

We don't have a core to build around, we're a bad basketball team. The Summer of 2015 is hopefully going to be a full rebuild but that might not be possible.

Having injuries to siginficant players does not qualify you as a bad team, and thats what ppl failed to realize or take into consideration.

If OKC loses to the spurs (especially if they get swept or lose in 5) are they a bad team, all of the commentors and analyss will point to the fact that OKC was missing their best defender.

But some how when we lose and 2/3 of the core is injured, were a bad team.. Woodson didn't get fired because he couldn't get a bad team to the playoffs, he was fired because he couldn't get a very talented team to the playoffs.

What a lot of you don't take into account, is the maturity and the preparation of last years team, it wasn't there.

Now all we here and see is that the Rockets and bulls are better desitnations for melo, had we made the playoffs and got bounce in the 1st round, just like the bulls and rockets, what difference would it make. The future for those two teams are no brighter then they are half way around the league..

When melo is on the floor, Amare was get 6 to 10 shots a game, in fact no other player took more than 12 shots for thhe most part, how would guys like Harden, Howard, rose and Noah like that.

marginal losses resulted in 54 wins to 37 wins. Do you really think this is a 37 win team? Calderon doesnt have to be Nash... run some plays, hit the 3s and get into the paint to create a bit... all in Calderon's wheelhouse, all simple things our PGs utterly failed to do last year.

I hear you on the salary, but more and more Im thinking we dont go the cap space route, rather we trade for longer more expensive guys to upgrade the roster. I dont think Phil risks swinging and missing in FA, and thats a real possibility. If we let everyone come off the books after getting Melo to take a bit less to add another max and a half guy, and we cant get a star in here the Phil Jackson era just became more of the same.

The last four seasons we've finished with 42, 44(equivalent), 54, and 37 wins. I believe that the 54 win season is an aberration and we shouldn't be basing decisions using that year as a baseline; we've been a bad/mediocre team for three out of the last four years with one random good year. And are we making this trade before or after Melo resigns? Because if it's just a ploy to get Melo to resign then it's an even worse trade.

so for the first three years since the Melo trade we were getting better each year, including adding wins in the plaoffs going from sweep to a couple wins to the 2nd round. Also this is the first year after 10ish in the league Melo's team has a 1) had a losing record and 2) failed to make the playoffs. Considering the performance by the rest of the roster I would say the 37 wins is close to an aberration the other seasons.

We dont need a star PG to get back to 45-50 wins. Just a quality player. Calderon would certainly fit all the needs. He's very consistent. Maybe not the highest ceiling but we need to upgrade first and get back to quality play.

as soon as the trade for carmelo anthony was made it jolted the knicks franchise into "win-now" mode from patiently rebuilding. it was a stupid-ass trade since we already had stoudemire here. we done got the wrong "second superstar."

any claims to "improvement" are truly vapid. the window to compete for a title has now closed in the first run with this dude. only melo and his slobbering and desperate fanbase can compartmentalize in such a way that you go from
"win now" to
"lin's contract is a ridiculous" to
"i am playing harder for woodson" to
"it will take time to rebuild" to
"i want to test free agency."

the knicks should simply cut their losses and not prolong this charade that they have any hope of competing with carmelo as a centerpiece.

knicks win 38-43 games in 16-17. rose MUST shoot no more than 14 shots per game, defer to kp6 + melo, and have a usage rate of less than 25%

Like usual, though, it's not a Melo critic who brought him into the thread. They just responded to another mentioning of him. You would need guys on your side to stop bringing him into the discussions if you don't want critics of Melo's games talking about him.

Who said he had to be the center piece, why can't he just be classified as a piece..

I would prefer Tyson be moved to Toronto, Milwaukee or Utah but I think this deal is more than fair.

If he makes more money than anyone else in the team he is expected to be the centerpiece. He is a second tier star that demanded first tier salary. That's why he is in the position he is in. If we keep him he should not get more than the 12 - 15 M range/ year. Then he can be just one one of the pieces.

Marcin Gortat was traded to Wahington for a top 12 protected pick. Tyson is considered a better player. The guy will have value if he is on the trade block.
