What we are saying is: 1- It didn't look like much of a punch 2- Considering 1, why not just fine the guy and keep him in for the 7th game.

We are humans and this black or white approach to enforcing laws is not the way to in every case.

come on now it was the exact equivalent of a flagrant 2 which is automatic suspension. this ain't that difficult. the dude lost his cool and did something stupid. some of you need to read up on the rules:

ironically memphis actually caught okc off guard with a smaller, quicker lineup with better ball movement.

Now they can show the zdumb tape to all players at the beginning of the season and remind them that punches just don't punish the guilty, it affects your team, your fans, your sponsers and your employer!

It sucks, but for the most part it works.

Just like the leaving the bench rule where there is a zero tolerance policy even if enforcing the rule decides a playoff series and suspends a top 50 player. Zero tolerance. No interpreting of body language or checking the tape to see body position. No grey area.

Someone isnt aware of the rules....

"During an altercation, all players not participating in the game must remain in the immediate vicinity of their bench. Violators will be suspended, without pay, for a minimum of one game and fined up to $50,000.”

Come on now what? Making this emotional doesn't make it any more wrong or right. A push is NOT a flagrant foul 2. A push is a foul according to your list.
Section one is a push, later on for section IX it says "A fine not exceeding $35,000 and/or suspension may be imposed upon such player(s) by the Commissioner at his sole discretion. "

People are humans and not robots regarding these rules, discretion is pretty much standard (just look at the pic above with players on the court).
If that was Lebron or the like there would be no suspension and the commissioner would say it was a push and he'd get a warning.

Regarding the black or white issue, it makes more sense to have the suspension reviewed or something of the like.
It just seems extreme when we see the tape. Reminds me of the Ronny King beating how they had to go into slow motion video
to give the cops a case. "See right there it is a punch, his hand is closed." That was a push and a joke of a suspension.

Paul George took a step and the bench then kept the players in that vicinity.

Ewing and others were wandring beyond. Big difference. in 20 years the rule has been redefined and made more sensible. As a fan I did not agree with the ruling and hated the outcome!!! But, in 20 years I see progress. Breaking Nash's nose in the conf. finals deserved a tougher reply by the league. Now the flagerant rules are in place. Didn't like the way that went down but SAS manned up and that you have to admire. Its a mans game.
