They are stuck with the same crappy roster next year, that is why he quit. He has no chance of succeeding next year and he was a lame duck so he had nothing to gain.

It was not a quote that exibits the type of leadership and business acumen that Magic as demonstrated as a commentator on TV, a businessman, and as an ambassador for the league which he is.

Most of you that are soured on MDA do so as a fan. Hold on to your "I didn't like the guy" and being "right" is perhaps as important as the success of your team! "TOLD YOU SO" is the rallying call! Nice work!

Not sure he gets paid or not, I heard he might be. In any event I give him credit to walk away from a dysfunctional franchise. Remember, the lakers picked this guy over Jax! Given the amount of injuries he had last year and won 40 games was pretty darn good coaching. His team was a disaster this year.

If he is the coach, and you want to build going forward its obvious you need more than one year. He should not have to coach for his job given the many questions the team is facing and direction they go on. Kobe wanted this guy, then he don't. Kobe was done with PHil and phil called him out in his book. They were able to work thru it which was good for Kobe but every other coach he has had he killed. The Lakers with Kobe's contract could be a killer, they have no bigs other than Pau, and the ping pong balls will tell a big story.

Even if they can trade for Love, the pick alone won't do it unless its a top three.

If Lakers don't want MDA to rebuild then fire him. The dysfunctional of keeping him for just one year undermines his juice card and thats not what any team needs. Lakers have a history of rebuilding and pulling off great trades and a vision for rebuilding. Paying Kobe that kind of money is not a good idea. I get his "Legacy" and his importance to the franchise but to pay him for past services is not foward thinking.

I never get the hate for all our former coach's. Its like "they messed us up and I hope they never succeed so we can blame them!".

Moving forward...........

Maybe he looked around and his agent being told there are teams interested in him. He'd be better off starting fresh with a long term commitment. MDA has a good track record with PG's. Maybe Rubio under MDA could evolve? Minny has to make a decison to pay him soon or move him.

Detroit has a young team that is looking for a coach.

Maybe he goes to college. Who knows.

very true... one thing i said is that I think Dantoni would be great for the current nuggets team and Brian shaw may be better suited for this current laker team that needs rebuilding... too bad they couldn't shaw for Dantoni.. haha

Magic quote:

“He don’t teach defense,” Johnson said. “I can’t stand to watch the Lakers play because the same play happens every single time on the Lakers — pick and roll and the guard goes all the way in for a layup. What are we, 40-something games into the season? The teams run the same play on us. We haven’t stopped it yet. Uh, duh.”

I guess MDA did teach defense

I don't know- I know there's the general consensus that you're meant to be all phoney and pretend you liked someone once they're dead or fired, but I personally prefer people are honest- if people me and the job I'm doing, then feel free to gloat if I get fired- likewise if I screw you over in life, feel free to tell it like it is when I die.

It's more respectable to lie and be a hypocrite?

Celebrating someones misfortune is not being truthful.

I wonder if MDA will celebrate Magics next misfortune by singing Happy Days.

I bet Magic couldn't name the Lakers starting lineup!!! How many people could? Kobe, Nash, Gasol, Nick Young, Xavier Henry, Blake all missed games. Losing this year was the best thing for their future. Kobe thinks they can get back to contention and Magic too. THEY'RE DELUSIONAL!!!

I don't get what the big deal is- D'Antoni knows Magic hated his coaching, he's hardly going to be upset to find out he's glad he resigned- it's not like he's going to go cry about it! Besides which D'Antoni has thrown many players under a bus in front of the media.

You're going in circles making irrational correlations.

Taken into account who he is and what he accomplished, was magic's tweets classless and tasteless?

D'Antoni resigned because they wouldn't guarantee 2015-16 in his contract. I can't blame the Lakers for that. D'Antoni also received a buyout. He called the shots here. Magic's response was more about the Lakers moving on from something that wasn't working and was painful to watch not work for two years in my opinion. Maybe you don't say it on twitter but Magic hasn't been quiet about how much he disagrees with how D'Antoni coached that team.
