Stat's contract is done after 14/15 season (he will make $23.5 mil that year). He will be 33 years old during the 15/16 season coming off various injuries including microfracture and back problems. The fact that people are talking about Stat even coming back is a testament to the "now is forever" mentality of being a sports fan based on Stat's very recent run of being able to stay injury free. He is performing well, but still being held back from playing in back to back games. Unfortunately by that time Stat should be a year to year Vet Min guy IMHO. Not so much based on his performance, but there will be too much risk given his injury history and high potential breakdown to signing him for multiple years. Why lock up extra salary cap space?

I want him as part of the Knick legacy. A year to year signing, starting at 4-5 mil the first year. We get to re-access his production after the end of each season.

I might agree to extend beyond the Vet Min and sign up for that (probably no higher than the $4 mil range) as long as it is year to year with a team option.

4 million to Amare? What are you guys smokin'?

I think we should go all in for another 5/hunge million. Why not? We owe him, he made us "relevant"!

He happens to be playing really well now but I would be in 10 day contract mode if I were the knicks.

so here is what phil is thinking ....

I would love to see him that role and be kept in the org, I think he' a warrior and a winner and his body just failed him. Time will tell... cant let sentiment guide your BB decisons

Dice was never the same, he wasn't even remotely the same as he was prior to the 2 operations. I mean he could barely even dunk, he turned into a half ass(but effective) post player who relied mostly on his jumper.

Stat is still better than half the pf/c in the league, and will always be an effective player. He can't carry a team, but you put him in the post where he's still shooting lights out, and getting and 1's at will, he can be good.

It's funny because you can ask anybody on this board would they trade amare for wade and i promise you everyone would say yes in a heart beat (yet wade has played in less games this season than stat)..What about rose and rondo, and westbrook, should we be concern about any player who's had serious knee injury.

It depends on who we get in free agency. If we get Love, then I would then we need more of a defensive backup PF. However, if we still have a need at PF in 2015, I would not mind resigning Amare. It would probably take at least $6 million a season though. I doubt Amare is going to stay for a $4 mill per year as he will probably get a full MLE offer from another team.

Move on. Thanks for a brief flash before the bulb burns out completely.
He's been incredibly overpaid for 1/2 season of beasting and a short run here 4 years later.

I don't even try to figure out what players are actually "worth". They're either here or gone. And Dolenz has too much money to worry about what we pay someone. Other than taking up cap space.

I'd resign him to be the 7th or 8th guy and was okay getting paid like the 7th or 8th guy. I'd move on if he wanted a bigger role

amare is not a triangle player
knicks win 38-43 games in 16-17. rose MUST shoot no more than 14 shots per game, defer to kp6 + melo, and have a usage rate of less than 25%

I guess with all your yr's of coaching/playing in the triangle, you would know best.

IMHO, Amare is a system player, and will fit well in most sytems that don't require 80% Iso's

he does not move great without the ball-- his legs are not in great shape for that-- and he is not a good passer. he does have great hands and can catch passes in traffic. so physically and mentally he may not have what it takes.

defensively he is a liability.

actually Amare IS a good system guy. Moves well without the ball for a big (part of the reason he's been such a great P&R player his whole career) and has good range on the jumper. His hands are not great... remember all the turnovers when he first got here. He's a guy who really benefits from a good PG as he's best in motion.

Some may have different opinions but thats what I see

with better PG play Amare could have a big year in the triangle. God I wish he had stayed healthy. Too bad

with steve nash my statement stands. with raymond felton my statement is false. since nobody in a knick uniform is a truly great passer, pocket or otherwise, amare will not fit into the triangle.

I see amare getting the ball below his knees, the spacing is horrible at times, and some of the passes are bailouts..He doesn't fumble the ball in the high post, he only fumbles in the low post and a half ass Pnr

that was not the case with nash feeding him those cookies. just goes to show how much stoudemire needed a great QB and how far short felton is of that standard. yet we brought him here not once but twice-- at the expense of a better passer than himself in lin. just imagine if we had not acquired melo in a trade and had been able to acquire chris paul instead.

but it's all good. it's a great day for knicks fans. dolan has repeated several times today that he will have zero control over basketball decisions and that it is phil's team.

and phil underscored that in no manner way shape or form would he have agreed to come here without that prerequisite.

What are you talking about??.Amare has been healthy for exactly half a season in a Knick uniform, at which time he was playing like the league MVP with Felton's help...Yeah Imagine if we had traded for Chris Paul and he had to carry this team with his bad knees...Imagine that...
Would you resign Amare
