Phil Jackson has been a un paid consultant for the Pistons and look at them. I'm not sure Phil can be as good as GM as he was a coach.

You get what you pay for, I guess lol Who knows how much influence Phil has over there. Joe Dumars has a history of bad free agent signings that predates Phil.
Not the best drafter either. Pretty hard to blow the 2003 draft with the second pick

Hindsight is 20/20 of course but Dumars has been coasting on that championship Pistons squad for years now. Besides putting that team together he's pretty much failed at everything else.

And if you want to go into hypotheticals: Let's say Dumars picks one of Carmelo/Wade/Bosh instead of Darko. How much better would that squad of been and would they have competed for more years with a young star on the team to take some of the load off of the vets? Adding a scorer like Carmelo or Wade could've added a couple years onto their run of being contenders.

Agree. But to be fair, he did draft Drummond in 2012. That almost makes up for Darko.

Hmmmm, maybe this is a pure PR response. Seems like an expensive way to distract from a fan protest and general ill will but I can't imagine Dolan and Co. actually paying attention to Jackson. I can imagine Dolan paying Jackson a consultant fee to, oh, take the blame for a while . . . ah, the sad state of being a Knicks fan in 2014.

Drummond is a beast. Drummond with Wade or Melo is almost unstoppable

I should know better than to trust a report like this, but PLEASE let this be true. My biggest fears of this team are with the FO. Just taking the decision making away from Dolan/Mills would be a blessing. Come back, Phil! *Cue the next MSG Coming Home montage.*

Giving Riley what he wanted would have been the right move

They would of won another championship easy

Riley wanted 25% of the team plus 10 mil per...That number might have been approaching 500 mil at this point..

If this were to happen every Knicks fan should start dancing in the streets. There's zero possibility that Jackson would come here without a guarantee of some level of autonomy and anything that reduces Dolan's influence on the day-to-day operations of the team is a great thing.

I still don't understand what Phil's role would be, and what Mills does and what Houston does.

I mean, that is a lot of front office producing not a lot of wins. Fire them all and let the janitor run the show.

And is Jackson really getting free reign? Because there was a NY Times article about how Mills hasn't talked with the media since the beginning of the year - despite him saying he would be more open with the media.

Can't understand how any fan would be against this. Even if it only reduces Dolans influence at a minimum. But can u imagine the pull Phil would have? Names like kobe, lebron and others would be attracted instantly. Pretty much every star or championship / history chaser would jump on board. Everybody knows Phils reputation would be under Broadway lights and he would do anything to protect that.

Nothing will make up for Darko because Darko was Darko (I liked Darko but he wasn't worthy of the no.2 pick). That draft happened nearly a decade before, which leads me to think that there has to be some statue of limitations. Besides, Dumars has had other monumental screwups that would make the point moot (e.g. Ben Gordon, Charlie Villanueva, Rodney Stuckey as PG, etc.). A broken clock is right at least twice a day.

I don't know about you guys but I don't think it could hurt by adding Phil Jackson in any capacity. One would think that a man that was so adept at X's and O's would also be pretty good at identifying talent. At the very least, he'd be a hell of a mentor to any of our head coaches and would also be a great PR stunt for free agents. My only hope is that Jackson will effectively end the nepotism that we've seen in the Garden and also drown out Dolan's voice/influence completely.

You think it would be more? I think it'd be more too if it really was 25% he was asking for (I swore it was only 5% though).

Oh, I see. I thought he meant the $10 mil per would be $500 mil but he means the 25% plus the annual salary. That makes more sense.

he doesn't need the money
he doesn't need another ring
he doesn't need to close his career out where he started

so his motivation if there is any is an unknown. my guess is that it's a knicks cry for help since they are irrelevant again, laughingstocks.

one thing is certain is that dolan will never be allowed to do anything more than write checks.
another thing is certain is that there will be no more gag orders on speaking with the press.

and if jackson does agree to get hired he will be making more money than any player especially carmelo anthony. this most likely means that anthony will take a big big cut in pay, down to the 12-13 million dollar range-- which coincidentally is about what his actual value is to a team... as i have taken pains to explain.

the sacrifice financially for anthony is just and right and of course necessary, be it to make room for a better player than himself or in this case a better basketball person than himself.

ironic that if he agrees to this financial sacrifice it will mean that he will be the head of a triangle offense which will be no sacrifice on the floor for him.

yet the 64 dollar question is: is he too dumb to learn the triangle? will his awful decision-making be a hindrance? i don't think he is smart enough to succeed but i would like to be proven wrong.

knicks win 38-43 games in 16-17. rose MUST shoot no more than 14 shots per game, defer to kp6 + melo, and have a usage rate of less than 25%
