Outside of those two things happening, this team will suck forever. We rebuilt for 10 years to win one round in the playoffs. The is no light at the end of the tunnel.

We could have moved Melo for Griffin but waited now he's morphed into a top #2 power foward
We could have traded Chandler for great assets now good luck
We could have moved Shumpert for Bledsoe

We haven't made one good trade in the last decade, we sign the wrong guys, hand out long term deals to guys that belong on one year deals and misuse provisions created strictly for us.

Worst trade of the offseason, which anyone with half a brain so as a disaster cost us another draft pick.

These guys suck, we are going on another coach. You're not coming here as a free agent when Dolan is your owner. Period.

Youve got a great point in this. At some point players will not look at NY as a destination. While money is money and someone will always take it--sans trade--will this place be a FA destination of choice with Dolan--answer is NO> Remember 2015 25 teams have maximum cap space. This team is DESPERATE to resign Melo BUT it might be the best for fans of NY and the Knicks for us to fall back real hard REAl HARD.

what would it accomplish? I hear and feel the frustration...

If he leaves it really makes Dolan and MSG look terrible, especially because he's not Dwight or Lebron, he's a star but a notch below. So if Dolan cant even keep the 2nd tier guy here...

the upside of Melo leaving is maybe, Dolan hits rock bottom. No addict cleans up their act until they hit bottom. And sometimes, even that doesn't work.

If Melo leaves, maybe this organization has no choice but to rebuild with a long term vision. They have to keep their 2015 pick, and that could be really good without Melo. Perhaps a franchise changing talent.

And then the key is maintaining control during 2015 FA - and not going long with someone like Amar'e - damaged goods/marginal talent, etc...

I dont think Dolan has any emotional attachment to the Knicks or winnin. They are just another business unit for him. A public one but he's got other things in his oven also.

Agree about the pick, but the Knicks will use their cap space and overpay to get someone because they have too.. We will lose Melo and end up paying guys like Josh Smith and Brandon Jennings big money "because fans to pay to see cap space"

My strategy is simple

Id like 3 new PG's--I dont like Murry as a PG although if he can make the club--we can keep him. Felton is gone. That leaves 37 YO Prigs and I think if we do draft a PG that we should try to keep 4 PG's.

The FASTEST way for this team to improve is the PG position--there is no doubt in my mind.

3 steps
draft 1--very likely names under pick 25 say Russ Smith Napier Burton Staten maybe a Dolon Wright if he comes out. Impossible to say a name and be right --but this is where I go stage 1--get into this draft and find a PG who can help us play faster and better without thye pressure of the guy having to start.

Target Kyle Lowry in a S+T its simple--we fcked up royally when we didnt trade for him--it cost us a season--I do think that there is a way we can still get him in a S+T if we use 2018 lottery rest #1 with Toronto

Sign Patty Mills to the biggest contract we can put out for the MLE 3-4mm? or even S+T for him whatever it takes.

Even if we lose Melo for nada--TOP priority---take massive steps to make the PG position stable and high quality for years to come

agree, but Im only getting Lowry if Melo is here. Not sure hes the right fit if we are doing a rebuild

Briggs should be a consultant or at least a scout for the NYK's
While he is not always right, he has made many great calls over the years, especially many impressive late round picks and recognizing talent

Victor Oladipo (when he was a predicted to be a late 2nd rounder and went all the way up)
Nikola Vucevic
Bynum

and trading down for the Jordan Hill draft and the Gallo Draft for players like

Lawson/Jrue Holiday/Jennings and Hibbert/McGee *though he has not developed, his physical abilities is impressive*

Unlike other posters in here that just bash, look to argue, Briggs actually states what he would do and who he would target every year

For this summer, I totally agree with Briggs about

Jordan Bachynski
7-2
248
C
Arizona St.
Sr.

Deonte Burton or/and Rus Smith

I personally like Sessions for the MLE because he has been nothing but be consistent throughout his entire career, always under rated, and could penetrate/facilitate/ and now hit wide open 3pter's, though he is approaching the 30 years of age

I like Patty Mills too but there are quite a few PG's to target, not knowing who would be available in no specific order

Sessions
Collison
Bayless
Patty Mills

Vasques (RFA)

Mo Williams

JJ Barea? for vet min... he might get about 2m though...
Ridnour? for vet min?

I think the Knicks need to start the revamping process now. The Knicks need to be mathematically eliminated so that there is no hope of their making the playoffs. Then they need to play Murry, Tyler, Aldrich, Clark, Hardaway extended minutss. Talk with Melo and see if it is a deal breaker if KMart is waived. It appeared he was healing for a playoff run but that isn't happening. Clear a spot and bring up a point from the d league. My choices would be Seth Curry or Jorge Gutierez. Start taking a hard look at high character guys that might not have as much talent to get the stench of dysfunction off this team. Once the offseason comes around trade shump for a pick or some youth package. Do anything to rid the team of Tyson. He just needs to go and the Knicks might have a young big that could become their man in the middle if they play things right. Maybe bring Hamilton in from the dleague. He is playing great there. Too much dead weight. Hopefully a new gm that is brought in and hires a new coach. Its hard to even root for the guys on the team now. There just isn't any heart there.

The problem is that we will not be eliminated soon and even if we are expect them to play melo40min to the end

http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=ku82xam

Think this trade reflects this years salary and not for next season's so adjustments will need to be made, I also cannot put in picks for the incentives
Basically OKC gives up 1 (maybe 2) 1st round picks or/and maybe a 2nd rounder as well, and NYK's give up 2018's 1st rounder and 2018 2nd rounder (at most) and they somehow get split up to Philly and Denver

NYK's maybe add in a extra 1st rounder if they want Reggie Jackson and/or use the 3m MLE on a PG this summer, in addition to resigning Melo

Philly and Denver add expirings and assets in draft picks to continue rebuild and preserve cap space for 2015

PG *3m MLE* and vet min upgrades
Wilson Chandler/ or one of the SG's with JR or Tim JR
Melo
Thad Young
C *get back a 2nd rounder to draft Jordan Bachynski 7-2 248C Arizona St.Sr.*

Pablo/Felton or look to use stretch provision on em and use vet min PG's instead, in addition hopefully BUY a 2nd round pick with 3m in cash somehow on a PG in this draft
JR Smith
Tim Hardaway JR
James Johnson *2year vet min guaranteed*
STAT *IF STAT is willing to opt out and take less, it could open up more options to improving especially if Melo is willing to really take less*

Nick Collison/Perry Jones/ One of these guys may START till Jordan Bachynski is ready
Tyler

as always...great thoughts by BRIGGS, RonRon, Finstrg and Crushalot (my mt rushmore of UK. LOL)

a couple of thoughts:
- need to get a point guard! i love Mills and i think hes attainable. Id throw the whole $5 mill MLE at him this summer
- focus on getting rid of these expiring contracts (although that will be easier said than done given the new luxury tax rules. ive been reading several articles explaining why the trade deadline was so quiet - basically teams want to avoid larger contracts...even if theyre expiring because they DONT want to pay the luxury tax)
- try to get what ever value for shumpert...2nd round or whatever. hes just not a good player folks
- keep and build the youth. that includes: murry, timmy, tyler and now earl clark.
- see what undrafted free agents can be acquired. since this draft class will be packed, im sure there will be talent that will not be drafted.

*if you notice, I didnt mention Melo. i dont think he'll stay and i dont blame him if he really wants to win. if he stays its for the money. whatever. let him decide already so we can move on. i cant make major plans without knowing his next move

Knicks should be improved: win about 40 games and maybe sneak into the playoffs. Melo, Rose and even Noah will have some nice moments however this team should be about PORZINGUS. the sooner they make him the primary player, the better

Thanks Ned, you make a valid point about Melo
That is why I have presented both plans with or without Melo

I enjoy reading most of the post from the ones you mentioned, along with a few others, that just talk basketball on the site
BTW, when I first heard you liked Mills, I was filled with disgust till I realized you were talking about Patty Mills
