Here's how I look at it. The knicks traded two second rounders. This years comes from okc. It is projected to be the second to last pick in the draft. The other second round pick should be a late one as well. The Bargs trade in addition to providing an upgrade in a player in Bargs, opened up two extra roster spots. The Knicks have three prospects on their roster right now. Tyler appears to be much better than anything the Knicks could get at the end of the second round next year and he is getting an opportunity to help the Knicks now. Aldrich and Murry both have a lot of strengths and minimally should be as good as anything the Knicks would get with that other second round pick. The first rounder was already compromised. Maybe that looks bad down the road but the Knicks have two guys on their roster right now that have shown a ton of potential because they traded two guys that were under contract but aren't in the league this year. The roster spots that opened up allowed the knicks to commit to youth right now. The league is changing. I think a lot of guys are going to be coming out of the dleague to become major contributors for nba clubs.
I dont buy the "compromoised" 1st round draft pick. There have been a lot of mid or late 1st round picks that have become good players. Right now teh Bargs trade hanst looked good because he is inconsistent and injury prone. teh good news is that after next year the contract is up
Right to swap doesn't equal compromised? The Nuggets are a mess but could be back in the playoffs by that point. If the Knicks keep Melo they are a 4 seed at least that season.
To be fair we cant assume taht we are a 4 seed in 2 years with or without melo. Gotta give Toronto credit they couldnt get any team to give them value for Bargnani until we came along

Knicks wanted a big to go against hibbert and more cap space. We see the trade very differently.

Longtime basketball palyer and NBA fan i knwo why they did it but considering Bragnani's injury prone and inocnsistent career they probably could ahve gotten him without giving away aa first round pick. hell i heard they were looking to amnesty Bargs at one time and even tried to tarde him for another bad contract but couldnt

I think the amnesty thing was debunked but there was a rumor that Dolan turned down Amare for Bargs.

Exactly which shows that no team was willing to give up much for Bargs. Like i said teh good news is his contract is up after next year and we will ahve cap space just wish we had that extra draft pick. Im sorry that i like first round draft picks i understand that arent guaranteed but it can really help to have them

If as a gm you can trade for a former #1 coming off two seasons of injuries by giving up bad contracts, players that are going to be waived etc and you have to include a 1st rounder three years from now that the previous guy in your job already traded the rights to swap I think you make that trade 8 days a week especially if you have a star like Anthony and are limited in the moves you can make. Grunwald's job was to win with Melo.

Who needs draft picks? It's not like we need a PG. If only the NBA allowed us to trade our 2015 lottery pick

Ain't no body got time for draft picks

It’s unclear if either Stoudemire or Martin will be available Saturday against Miami.

One guy is a former lottery pick and the other guy was projected to be a lottery pick before things got crazy for a few years. One guy is 22 and the other is 23.Oops. Cole is 25.

I still think Aldrich sucks, Tyler is exciting though.

Cole has looked brutal on offense. Maybe with more time on the court that gets better. It would be nice if one of the assistant coaches worked with him a bit on offense. He doesn't need to be able to do much to become a valuable player.

Agreed. I don't think hell ever be a good offensive player but if he pulls down boards and doles out 6 hard fouls a game I'll take it!

Thanks now I'm going to have nightmares tonight. Now where'd I put that nightlight.

The big complaint around here has been the picks moved in the Bargs trade. Two of those picks will be late second rounders and one will be a late first rounder. Tyler, Murry and Aldrich all are at least as good as the guys you get with those second round picks and Tyler is probably better than what you get with the swap first rounder.

2nd rounders are assets you can use to move up in the draft or trade for a player who actually is worth picks.
Every new young player is hyped by people here. These guys could just be Jackie Butlers.

Yeah, because not valuing draft picks has worked wonders for this franchise over the past 15-20 years. Look at all those titles we have to show for it

Heck, trading the #1 pick is OK in theory - it just depends on what you're getting.
Note that I've been saying for a while now the Knicks should have included that 2018 1st round pick to get Lowry.

True. in fact he was 24 in a weaker draft class. In a redraft he would be top 10
