If the trade does happen(there's no chance that it really would) Perkins better be on the bench and let Tyler,Martin, and Cole play. Westbrook is not the Thunder's problem, they were great with him, Perkins is their problem.

Reminds me of this stat...

http://www.celticslife.com/2013/05/kendrick-perkins-delivers-worst-playoff.html

Kendrick Perkins had a PER of -0.7 in 11 playoff games for the Thunder, the worst ever for a player with over 200 minutes.

Perk finished with 24 turnovers, 24 points, 39 fouls, and only five blocks in the Thunder's disappointing run, shooting a mind-boggling 17% from the field in 5 games against the Memphis Grizzlies. Head coach Scott Brooks somehow decided to play his broken-down center 23 minutes per game, and Perkins repaid his boss with an atrocious plus/minus of -40.

Not if the guy keeps falling off the wagon and get hurt.

So the question becomes how long do you stick with a player who's continually hurt ?

He's been plagued by injuries for half of one season.

Westbrook reminds me of Byron Scott. Good player that could do a lot of things, very athletic but not a star.

I agree with that assessment. The problem is that no one can tell him he is not a star. The dude consistently freezes out Kevin Durant as though he's a scrub. What's he going to do on this team with the terrible players we've got (save Melo, who is still an inferior player to Durant)? I think he'll play himself out of the league before he begins to defer and develop any semblance of basketball intelligence.

I agree that Westbrook and Melo is counter productive.....Which is why you see Durant playing at a high level now, without Westbrook. But I can see Dolan making this trade, because it will increase ticket sales...$$$

From what I recall the Durant-Westbrook "Problem" is who closes in crunch time and Westbrooks decisions in the crunch to defer when his DNA is shoot first. He can get his shot off anytime he wants so its instinctive. The PG has to read the defense and see the double coming. Westbrook has success but the failures are way overblown as its just assumed if he gave it to Durant, all would have ended better.

Bottom line is top tier players have to give into the system and play within. Knicks system is promote handsome players and sell tickets under the illusion that the Mecca enhances the player and we are contenders.

Westbrook fits the bill perfectly. At some point OKC has to look at "Now" and give up something. Is Chandler that missing piece? If perk is so bad why they keep winning? Does that translate to playoffs when you need those critical "stops" in crunch time? Can others step up when Durant goes cold or defense slows him down? Westbrook is a great sidekick and does create problems for defense to cover them.

Would OKC have better offers from teams that can help them NOW and continue to grow internally? The longer OKC can contend the more money they make. They won't turn off their fan base as long as they are in the hunt. Sure they need to step up and claim a legacy moment with championship at some point but Cubs make a ton of cash and the Redsox did just fine for 90 some odd years in persuit!

They have only the Sooners college football team to compete with.

Its fun to discuss but this is dell pearsons idea, not reported by any credible source. Its like talking about pending Marshall law when someones opinion is discussed and it becomes ugraded to hypothetical. Just an opinion.

COMMENTARY | Through the first half of the NBA season, much has been made about how the New York Knicks have grossly underachieved.

Del Pearson is a lifelong Knicks follower from Upstate New York. His favorite players of all time are Walt Frazier and Carmelo Anthony. Follow Del on Twitter @DelPearson44.

Entering the campaign with title aspirations, things have clearly not gone as planned as the Knicks would find themselves out of the playoffs if the season ended today. Notwithstanding this, and some terrible performances along the way, the news of the Knicks' demise has been far overblown.

Their struggles are not representative of a systematic breakdown like so many other disappointing teams in the Eastern Conference, such as having a terribly mismatched roster (Detroit Pistons), being a bit too old (Brooklyn Nets) or being a bit too young (Cleveland Cavaliers).

Instead, the Knicks' struggles can be easily fixed by addressing two main issues: an unhealthy frontcourt and inconsistent point-guard play. Both of these issues can be addressed in one fell swoop by acquiring Russell Westbrook from the Oklahoma City Thunder. I am not suggesting either a fantasy trade for New York that Oklahoma City would never agree to or something that would not be possible under the NBA's salary-cap rules.

Rather, there is a realistic trade possibility that would both catapult the Thunder into the driver's seat in the Western Conference and position the Knicks to challenge the Indiana Pacers and Miami Heat in the East: Russell Westbrook, Kendrick Perkins and a future second-round draft pick for Tyson Chandler, Iman Shumpert, Raymond Felton and the right to swap future first-round draft picks.

Why the Thunder Would Do It

Beyond any doubt, one of the main drags on the Thunder's starting lineup has been Perkins. His general lack of athleticism is not a fit with the fast-paced Thunder. This would be cured tenfold with the addition of Chandler, an athletic rim protector who will provide the team protection when Serge Ibaka strays out of the paint.

Also, any veteran leadership lost with Perkins would be made up for with former NBA champion Changer. At the same time, Shumpert would fill a need for an athletic two-guard and Felton can slide in and provide depth as the backup point guard.

While Westbrook has been out injured, Reggie Jackson has played at an extremely high level and appears ready to take over as the regular starting point guard. This will more than soften the blow of losing Westbrook. Plus, cutting ties with him now would once and for all quiet the "can Kevin Durant and Westbrook co-exist" talk that seems to distract the team every postseason.

Why the Knicks Would Do It

For the Knicks, the benefit is obvious: Westbrook would be by far the best point guard to call Madison Square Garden home since Walt "Clyde" Frazier. He would provide a sense of athleticism that the Knicks desperately need at the position, and create the kind of matchup nightmares they are usually faced with against teams with better point guards.

Perhaps even more importantly, Westbrook's arrival as a bona-fide star would further reduce the already small chance that Carmelo Anthony would leave the Knicks in free agency in the offseason, seeing that Westbrook is currently signed to a long-term deal. Finally, Westbrook would thrive under the bright lights on Broadway with his impeccable style and likable personality.

As great as Chandler has been for the Knicks, the fact remains that they have too many big guys on the roster for too few minutes. With Chandler gone, and once Amar'e Stoudemire and Kenyon Martin get healthy, head coach Mike Woodson will have reason to employ a small lineup to give many teams trouble with the speed of Westbrook and company. Perkins would essentially be a throw-in but could provide some depth on the Knicks' second unit, which generally does not push the ball much anyways.

Finally, having to give up a first-round draft pick hasn't been an impediment for the Knicks in the past and would certainly not be when it comes to acquiring a superstar like Westbrook.

Assuming that Westbrook is able to return to the court soon, it doesn't make sense for the Knicks not to make a run at him. By acquiring such a superstar point guard, it is clear that the Knicks would quickly shoot towards the top of the Eastern Conference. Not only would that save this season, but it would also go a long way towards keeping Anthony in New York to build a budding dynasty around the two stars.

Most people in the know, understood when Tyson got sick and lost weight, he was already skinny before the weight lost in the first place.

Durant looks like he is taking his game to the next level, enough maybe for him to have the confidence to check Westbrook when he starts acting like he is the best player on the team. I guess we'll find out when Westbrook gets back.

I hope so but I don't think that Durant has that fire in his personality. If he wasn't 6"11' and had superstar talent, I think he'd be the kind of guy that people would push around. It's a major reason why I thought that they should've dumped Westbrook instead of Harden in 2012. They should've considered trading him even after Harden walked because now they may potentially be stuck with a malcontent that is heavy on the athleticism but light on the smarts and skill.

Very good points. I thought that the Francis-Westbrook was spot on. It's a major reason why I think they need to move Westbrook before it's too late.

The Thunder have been playing it off their minds without Westbrook. They actually do need what Tyson brings. They have Reggie Jackson who is a stud. They have Lamb who is a stud. They could use Felton of the bench, and they could have use for Shump as an extra defender. They would be playoff ready at that point.

The knicks actually need what Westbrook brings. I think he fits well with Melo as a legit second option. We have the shooters and finishers around Westbrook.

Trade would probably put the Thunder and the knicks in the finals this year.

But the only way this happens is if I sell my sole to the matrix and give up the coordinates to Zion

I doubt either team benefits much from the trade. The Thunder get better as far as their regular season prospects are concerned. Playoff time is a completely different matter though. When teams can prep for you and exclusively you, it makes the game that much harder. It's a major reason why Durant's FG% dropped like a rock after Westbrook got injured in the playoffs last year. If it wasn't for a couple extreme aberrations that skewed the data, the dropoff would've been even more pronounced. Overall, I think Westbrook is a cancer, especially as PG but he at the very least forces teams attention away from Durant, which allows Kevin to be Kevin. For us, I don't think that'd matter as much because the rest of our team stinks so badly. Add to the fact that Westbrook injuries are chronic and I think you're talking about an even more combustible team.

Sad but true. I can't believe anyone would be this bad at anything, with as much resources as he has to invest. It's really an embarrassment.
