Great point Uptown !

But Jordan allowed his teammates to build up their confidence by passing the rock in reg season , so if and when the 2nd season came they wouldn't be afraid to take the big shot ( Bill Wennington - PAXON)

No one is going to complain about efficient players like Jordan, LeBron and to some extent Durant its when inefficient players like Harden, and Melo take majority of the shots and hold the ball. Who here has a complaint about Barkley and Ewing they were efficient and shot a high percentage. No one complains when the shoot because they make shots. If Harden or Melo shot 50% you think anyone would call them out.

What about a guy who hits well over 50% of his 2s and about a third of his 3s?

And who might that be ?

James Harden. He's very efficient with 2s. It would have made more sense if Parsons said that James needs to work on his 3s.

He also gets to the foul line at a ridiculous rate.

Yeah, his overall efficiency (TS%, points per shot) is excellent. He's does a ton of damage from the line and 2 point range. He just needs to improve his 3s.

A ridiculous rate translates to what exactly? 1-2 more FTA's per game, big deal. I will give him this, he is a master of the flop, sells it very well. He doesn't mind embarrassing himself so he uses it to his advantage nicely.

Why do you think his 3 ball has went down so much? Anyway, I think Parsons is talking about the possessions he takes up including all the possessions that end up in fouls(shooting/non-shooting). Hopefully, Parsons get fed up and wants out to join NY. I can dream.

I dont like flopping either but until the NBA gets serious about stopping it I cannot blame any player who can devise a way to use it to his advantage. As for the damage he does at the foul line, its actually a huge asset. This article explains it well:

http://grantland.com/the-triangle/courtvision-james-harden-and-the-amazing-technicolor-foul-shot/

Although many NBA fans are loath to admit it, drawing a foul, particularly a shooting foul, is a very efficient basketball play. Fouls not only threaten to disqualify opponents, they also beget points at very high rates. The Portland Trail Blazers have the most efficient scoring offense in the NBA, scoring 1.11 points per possession. That’s a really high number, but it pales in comparison to the value of an average shooting foul, especially a James Harden shooting foul.

By shooting over 80 percent from the line, when Harden earns a two-shot foul, he effectively creates a possession worth 1.6 points. This, to the chagrin of some, is one of the NBA’s ugly truths: that an offensive possession that ends in a shooting foul is one of the best outcomes an offense could hope for.

don't even put harden in the same sentence with MJ and kobe. Harden's athletic but at the core he's an inefficent chucker and a defensive liability.

Our PGs are worse than Houston's and he'd be sharing the forward with Melo. I would welcome it but we need a real PG

Guess I should have put a disclaimer in this post as well....My intention wasn't to place Harden in the same category as Jordan, and Kobe, but to make a point about players who stop the ball....

What we're not addressing is the relationship between Melo and his fellow players. Watch carefully as most of the players defer to Melo, in many cases refusing to take the shot. Plenty of times I watch the ball move back and forth at the top of the key. These guys are not cutting to the rim, setting picks for other players or getting themselves free for open shots. No movement equals stagnation. I see Melo passing to STAT or back to Felton, who should be penetrating or looking for an open man. Maybe we can ask the coach to come up with a different play other than ISO Melo, or ISO JR.

You make an excellent observation, one I've been making for a while. The guards hang around the perimeter while Melo posts high on the elbow. Many times Melo will receive the ball with 7 seconds or less on the shot clock. When the ball does move, it usually whips around the 3 point line from strong side to weakside. If you notice, the ball rarely moves towards the basket because we don't run any pin down screens on the weakside when Melo has it strong side wing, or any flex cuts across the baseline. Watch the Hawks or Spurs and they are constantly moving, cutting to the rim and screening away off the ball. We just stand around and watch. This is definitely on the Coach.

It also wouldn't hurt to run Melo off some flex screens to get him some open looks as opposed to him having to work so hard for every basket...

Bonn efficiency is making every trip down on the offensive end count. There is no correlation between two point attempts and three point attempt a missed shot is a missed shot.

I haven't watched him season, but it's weird how fans have turned on him this season- does he deserve it?

Rockets seem to have a few chemistry issues- Harden and Dwight seemed to freeze out Lin, while Parsons went from being Lin's best friend, to siding with Dwight and Harden, thinking of himself as a similar level player. Lin isn't happy about being a bench player, or being shackled by Hardens presence.

One of Lin's boys dividing a team again, I'm shocked...Trying to alienate its star player??, How could that ever happen?? A little success when he is hurt and out the lineup??..Never saw that before..

From a blog on Yahoo sports back around that time:

If that isn't enough to prove to you Carmelo's selfishness, here's some more ammo. Many people close with the Knicks have cited that Carmelo has been repeatedly breaking plays. Meaning, a play is run, but when the ball hits Carmelo's hands, he basically isolates with the ball and clears everyone out. He has openly admitted to being uncomfortable when the team doesn't run the offense through him, as teams have done his entire career; high school, college and pro. Late in Monday's game at Chicago, Carmelo called for the ball in the post. When Landry Fields went elsewhere with the ball, Anthony slapped his hands together in disgust. He quit the rest of that play—he's like a five year old who doesn't get what he wants. A source close to Carmelo said he wants 20 shots a game. The Knicks are 2-11 when he takes 20+ shots a game. He's shooting a career worst 41% from the field. He wants 20 shots a game and the Knicks team he rejoined 11 games ago doesn't have a need for a 20-plus shot player. It's like adding another A-lister to the cast of The Departed. Not necessary. Hold that thought.

It also wouldn't hurt to run Melo off some flex screens to get him some open looks as opposed to him having to work so hard for every basket...

when he is on the right side he sometimes gets two screens set around the foul line extended. he moves from right to left and usually calmly drains a jumpshot. it's a high percentage shot for him and it should be run for him early and often. and it also would give him an opportunity to hit a roller. trouble is they don't run it enough. don't understand that.

knicks win 38-43 games in 16-17. rose MUST shoot no more than 14 shots per game, defer to kp6 + melo, and have a usage rate of less than 25%

With out Harden, the Rockets are one and done, with him they can advance deep into the playoffs..

Great point Uptown !

But Jordan allowed his teammates to build up their confidence by passing the rock in reg season , so if and when the 2nd season came they would be afraid to take the big shot ( Bill Wennington - PAXON)

Bonn efficiency is making every trip down on the offensive end count. There is no correlation between two point attempts and three point attempt a missed shot is a missed shot.

Right, it's about making each *possession* count, not each shot. That should include assist:to ratio and free throws too. A primitive evaluation would just look at FT%.
Really what matters is TS% and assit:to ratio, although the best way to combine all the data is to look at the points per 100 possessions ratings, which Harden scores quite favorably on.
O.T Parson slams Harden, says team plays balanced when h's not playing.
