With out Harden, the Rockets are one and done, with him they can advance deep into the playoffs..
Great point Uptown !
But Jordan allowed his teammates to build up their confidence by passing the rock in reg season , so if and when the 2nd season came they would be afraid to take the big shot ( Bill Wennington - PAXON)
No one is going to complain about efficient players like Jordan, LeBron and to some extent Durant its when inefficient players like Harden, and Melo take majority of the shots and hold the ball. Who here has a complaint about Barkley and Ewing they were efficient and shot a high percentage. No one complains when the shoot because they make shots. If Harden or Melo shot 50% you think anyone would call them out.
What we're not addressing is the relationship between Melo and his fellow players. Watch carefully as most of the players defer to Melo, in many cases refusing to take the shot. Plenty of times I watch the ball move back and forth at the top of the key. These guys are not cutting to the rim, setting picks for other players or getting themselves free for open shots. No movement equals stagnation. I see Melo passing to STAT or back to Felton, who should be penetrating or looking for an open man. Maybe we can ask the coach to come up with a different play other than ISO Melo, or ISO JR.
You make an excellent observation, one I've been making for a while. The guards hang around the perimeter while Melo posts high on the elbow. Many times Melo will receive the ball with 7 seconds or less on the shot clock. When the ball does move, it usually whips around the 3 point line from strong side to weakside. If you notice, the ball rarely moves towards the basket because we don't run any pin down screens on the weakside when Melo has it strong side wing, or any flex cuts across the baseline. Watch the Hawks or Spurs and they are constantly moving, cutting to the rim and screening away off the ball. We just stand around and watch. This is definitely on the Coach.
It also wouldn't hurt to run Melo off some flex screens to get him some open looks as opposed to him having to work so hard for every basket...
