nyk4ever - even you can create a play in a timeout. You still need players who can assert their will to run said play.

They ain't playing cardboard cutouts

Say What?

Get the most out of roster?

nyk4ever - Does that include injuries it that presume a perfectly healthy roster?

What is the standard measure for a roster than has never played together for more than 3 weeks of Pre Season?

If more than one player is injured simultaneously, how does any coach substitute for lost minutes by means other than auditions?

Your responses are greatly appreciated.

Players play during losing, blow it all up now!
Players play during wins, fire the coach, hang the owner [with vague overhauling of the roster]. Give me Thibs or give me death!

anyone seen tkf? There's even some nicely baited Melolove threads and there's no response.

I thougth Woodson might have contributed to JR having a great season last year? Justin Bieber is mature compared to our clown.

Try coaching with Melo out and using the 3rd string PG for a long stretch. While your Starting center is out! His back ups are Kmart and Skippy COle? Metta is out and not contributing. Chris smith a distraction.

All the while your starting # is in his third year and freaking out losing his confidence all the while his contract status is plummeting (shump) and your owner wants you banased!

At the same time your bringing along your $100 million dollar man who started the year a shell of his former self. The new "Savior", Bargnani who basically has not played for two years and had Pnumonia in the summer is also playhing into shape.

Basically Woodson has done a very good job. The assumption that Hardaway is being thwarted is silly. The kid is doing well which means his coach is bring him along just fine!

Knicks have lots of problems, Woodson is not one of them.

Woodson has been better recently, but he's not a very good coach IMO. There are a ton of issues with this guy and he was the biggest reason the team came out shaky. He didn't have a plan this year for the team. He said as much at the start of the year when he said he didn't know who the Knicks were and that it would take him a while to figure out this roster. These are things he said himself. You could see it confirmed with how the team was playing. The issues with his lineups and rotations. His lack of play calling and holding players accountable. The horrible 4th qtr collapses. This is all a reflection on Woodson as a coach this year. While i'm glad he's handling things better lately, that still hasn't convinced me that he's a good coach. I feel now that he's been fortunate to ride some hot shooting during win streaks, sandwiching a lot of mediocre BB and it makes him look better than he really is. That's why he was exposed in the playoffs and didn't have a clue to start this year.

Not to get off topic too much, but the supposed amnesty of Bargs is very much a media/fan inspired rant. Toronto would not have benefited at all from that move, and its obvious that he had/has some trade worth.

Yeah, some worth as a 7th man perhaps. You won't see a player like him in the starting lineup of a top team like the Spurs though. And your situation is a disaster if he's your #2.
He woukldnt start for a top team? Heat start Rashard Lewis. Is Bargs beter then Rashard? Why is the assumption Bargs is the Knicks 2nd best player? What are you basing that on? He replaces role player types like Camby/Kurt/Sheed/Novak

This notion that Bargs is for some reason supposed to be the Knicks 2nd star is stupid, unfounded and just some poor and uninformed tactic to dog this roster and team by those who have made it clear its their agenda to do so.

In terms of importance, impact and need for good play? Knicks go as these guys go first:
1) Melo 2) Felton 3) Tyson 4) Shumpert and I ommited JR for my own personal gratitude

A) If you have Lebron, you can get away with some bad starters.
B) I said he was the 2nd best player we had in those games, meaning guys you listed above were out. Bargs was the 2nd best player, which left Woodson in a horrendous situation.

i still hate woodson as a coach. he still seems to call atrocious plays out of timeouts. nothing that will get us an easy basket in the paint. it's all perimeter crap.
Nixluva is posting triangle screen grabs, even when nobody asks - Fishmike. LOL So are we going to reference that thread like the bible now? "The thread of Wroten Page 14 post 9" - EnySpree

This series didn't come down to who was defending Hibert, it was about who could make a shot other then melo, cause JR and Kidd were worthless

Don't hate Woody, not even close, but I can't buy that he had nothing to do with our lack of success this season. How big a role is debatable, but I will never buy that he was completely blameless. Everyone is accountable.

When Tyson first went down I said it would be january until this team got its ish together. Still believe we should have won a few more games over that stretch. The real test will be the playoffs where we will see if Woodson can match wits with the opposing coach. If we lose too many players to injuries it might not make a difference, but then again coaching could be the difference between advancing and going fishin'. We'll see what happens.

Talk to me when Woodson out coaches the opposing coach in a playoff series for the 1st time. Talk to me when he doesn't panic over rotations. Talk to me hen he stops trying to match up to teams instead of vice versa. Talk to me when he runs a good play when the game gets tight instead of reverting to ISO. Until then my eyes are set on Thibs/JVG

Hard to quantify how good a job he does. I mean, 18-6, then 54 wins and with the loss of cope, its all gone to hell since!!!

Woodson has been better recently

Nixluva - the players have been playing better recently

Woodson was a good coach in our 54 wins last year but a bad coach in the 28 losses!

What interest do people have in defending this guy? He's a mediocre coach that cost us multiple games this year through extremely embarrassing mistakes that the other 29 teams in the league would never make. Now that we're winning I understand holding off on pushing him out the door, but what do people see in him?

To Woodson's supporters- I understand that you don't think the early hardships of the team fall on his shoulders for whatever reason, but look at it from a different perspective; what is it you like about Woodson? What makes him a great leader and coach? What distinguishes him from his peers around the league? When has he used intricate knowledge of the game to give us an advantage another coach couldn't? What are his strengths?

My point is that Woodson has his greatest success when he follows common sense and does what everyone wants and expects him to do. When he goes against popular opinion with his "the east is big, man" and "jr mile-long leash" mentality is when he struggles the most. So if Woodson is at his best when he finally caves and does what an average nba fan has wanted for weeks, how does that possibly make him a strong coach? Compare this to an elite coach; when coaches like PJax and Greg Popovich go against the grain, it is because they are informed and see things that we common observers do not, and their unconventional decisions reap benefits others could not foresee. It is in these situations where a coach's value is made clear, and these instances in which Mike Woodson flounders most.

Woodson have succeeded where many have failed..Again, took a losing squad went 18-6, 54 wins last year..Melo playing the best ball of his career, I can continue but I'm sure u know the rest ..Ask yourself this, when is the last time a coach has had similar success in NY??..Name him..

Also, the increase in assists is a sign the Knicks are making shots. New York is shooting 46.6 from the floor in its past seven games and knocking down 38 percent of its 3-pointers. For perspective, the Knicks are shooting 43.7 from the field on the season and 35.7 percent from beyond the arc.

Bootleg Alert

Classic

tkf - Nice to see some wins I guess..

I guess?

At least the head coach accepts responsibility

“We lost some close games early in the year because of some bonehead plays as a coaching staff, guys on the floor, we didn’t do the right things. We’re starting to figure things out at the end. Even when we were down five, I thought we had plenty of time to secure the win. It was our defense that put is in that position.”

Yeah, you can flip the question and ask what's the evidence that it's important to get rid of him? I don't love or hate Woodson but he's been here for over 200 games. It's unrealistic to think there wouldn't be any stretches where the team struggled and the coach's decisions were questioned.
