beginning of the end for Shumpert:

http://www.nj.com/knicks/index.ssf/2013/05/knicks_iman_shumpert_considers.html

“We failed. We didn’t do what we were supposed to do... [We should have made it to] at least the Eastern Conference Finals... We knew we were supposed to go farther and we didn’t... We just have to hold each other accountable. Come next year, little things like not playing hard should never come into play. Letting a game slip at home should never come into play. Getting beat on the boards when that’s an emphasis coming into a series should never happen. We have to take care of the little things and we didn’t. And it caught up to us.”

This is an unforgivable sin in the eyes of Dolan. Since then, Iman, and the way the team treats him, has never been the same.

Hey Evil, are you back after a long time? I don't remember seeing anything from you for a while.

I don't like Shump disrespecting Woodson. I do wonder if he is still struggling some from his two knee surgeries. He came back early and needed a second surgery. He also had to be examined in the playoffs because his knee was bothering. Whatever is up it doesn't seem to be getting better.

those players were leaders and winners. their teammates understood that. popovich has a special relationship with duncan because duncan is a leader and a winner. his teammates understand that. auerbach and russell as well and russell's teammates understood that.

the knicks don't have anyone remotely like that. double standards exist when there is no clear player who is head and shoulders more valuable than the rest. that's why this team is not a team but a failure and becoming not only a laughingstock but moving back to irrelevance.

it's because some players are being treated by the coach as though they are actually head and shoulders better which is of course ridiculous and this is the source of the dissension.

melo should have kept his stupid clown-ass mouth shut about free agency, too. that is the 800 pound gorilla in the room.

knicks win 38-43 games in 16-17. rose MUST shoot no more than 14 shots per game, defer to kp6 + melo, and have a usage rate of less than 25%

So let me get this straight..When you have winners, uneven treatment and double standards are ok??

winners help create a hierarchical structure and synergy. double standards can exist only among losers and in a non-leadership vacuum among players. melo is a loser and is not a leader so he sows dissension. it takes a great coach to handle a team of losers and create a winning atmosphere and it starts with treating everyone the same. if woodson were both smart and a leader he would recognize this and coach from that standard. but woodson is dumb and not a leader. woodson should force these guys to press and trap. if they dog it they sit.

amazing that you can come up with such a ridiculous rhetorical question.

Hind sight is 20/20 but the Knicks should have dealt Shump by jumping in the deal with Clips and Suns. Right now we could have Bledsoe as our starting PG.

Not to mention Melo is ethnically challenged therefore cannot get in proper shape to execute what is required for basketball..Good thing we have you around to point out those things that are not as obvious to us who aren't as quick on our feet...

Maybe. This was the criticism of him prior to his being drafted.
Weaknesses: Lacks stability/discipline on the court ... Inconsistent … Not efficient at all ... Horrid shot-selection ... Liable to shoot at any time, even when being closely guarded ... Likes to shoot off the dribble on a good deal of his isolation possessions, despite only connecting on 20% of these attempts ... Shoots nearly 5 three pointers per game, despite only shooting 27.8% from behind the arc ... Will often go for the flashy play instead of the easy play, which can lead to unforced turnovers ... Very poor jump shooter, and hasn't shown any improvement in this area during his three-year career with Georgia Tech ... Needs the ball in his hands a lot to be effective on offense and he certainly won't have as many isolation opportunities at the next level ... Should look to take advantage of his size and strength more in the post, but has yet to add this dimension to his game ... Attitude has been questioned in the past, but to his credit he appears to have matured over the past year ...
Seems pretty accurate at this point.

bill parcells has long maintained that different players should get treated differently... that doing so is the right thing to do.

i agree with him. this is a sound management principle. the trick for a manager is to do it correctly in a way that brings out the best in individual people. you gotta have your finger on the pulse.

shumpert may very well be a jrkoff. but it's woody's job to handle him and all the other jrkoffs in a way that creates winning. that aint happening.

i am not so sure we can make a direct comparison between football and basketball. off the top of my head you have two separate teams, offense and defense, and then there is the far more regimented and defined roles for all of the positions, with the exception of the tight end and fullback positions.

he is the biggest paycheck and the one who pissed in the punch when he said he was interested in free agency. much of the description of the dude on the rookie contract is completely applicable to melo. right or wrong?

I still think Shump develops into a good player, probably once he leaves this ****hole. It's an offense designed to jack up threes.

Shump is talking back to the coach a lot even after he is making major defensive blunders..I'm not sure how many organizations want to put up with that..Dude let the NY extracurricular activities get in the way of his improvement...He gambles a lot now instead go playing straight up D...I have no time for guys with attitude...I defended at first when I heard Dolan wanted to trade him..I'm now begin to understand why...

I think he lost respect for Woody after the trying to start JR after the suspension and injury. It was obvious what was going on. I am not saying what Shump is doing is right. I am just saying what I think might be the reason for it.
