The status quo is devastating--its going to lead to Carmelo leaving and the Knicks getting no compensation. the team as composed is brutal getting Tyson back will not help rebuild the backcourt it will not help Amare and Martin play 80 games it will not help Bargs from inconsistency it will not help Shumpert or JR smith play consistent where is Steve Mills after 20 games whats thye story give us a feedback on what you see? Whats the plan--to win 20 games and let Melo walk?
This was the plan all along. This team will look much different by 2015 or sooner. Only players I expect to still be with the team in 2 years are Melo, THjr, chandler, and likely the smiths.
This team scks why exactly would melo want to stay with the same sht team? If you pay melo 30mm Tyson 12mm JR 6mm you cant even get 1 max player with a cap of 50mm. More likely if we sck--Carmelo will bail and we get nothing.
Chandler won't make 12 and Melo wouldn't hit 30 until late in his contract if he gets max. Think more like 23 for Melo, 6 for chandler take it or leave it, and 6 for JR. So 35 plus a couple rookie contracts and plenty of room for a max player. And that's if we give Melo the max. And cap will be 60 or higher. But if Melo leaves we tank and start over with the 2015 draft pick, THjr, and 2015 free agent class.
Tyson will never leave 4-6mm on the table--so lets be fair and say 10mm Melo is going to get 24.1mm that year JR Smith gets 6mm ray felton gets 4.5mm Shumpert 4mm Prigioni 1.8mm Hardaway 1.3mm
So lets do the math
Tyson 10mm
Melo 24mm
JR 6mm
Felton 4.5mm
Shumpert 4mm
Hardaway 1.3mm
Prigs 1.8mm
--------------
total 52.1 and than add 6 more capholds there is no room for a max free agent.
