Just curious.

I did, to work for myself and have a better wuality of life.

Meaning, if I were Melo (and were already rich), I would take a big paycut. But not to play for the knicks and that Dolan prick. I would go to a team like the Wolves who have a great fundation. Young players, some allstars, great coach, good GM, and bad at SF, and I would go and win there. But never in hell would I stay in NY if I was Melo, whatever the price.

I think if he takes a pay cut he leaves. Unless something happens to change the Knicks fortunes the biggest reason to stay is the money.

okay, first off, I am asking him to take a pay cut for one year

Does anyone think Melo is worth 20-30m per year?
Does another GM/TEAM will be willing to pay him that in 2014, when he can opt out?
If he thinks he can win with Kobe, Nash, at their respective ages/injuries, vet min players, a room exemption, and a 1st round pick, please go ahead.....
On some deals, I think they can sign and trade Pau Gasol, Jordan Hill, Steve Blake, Jodie Meeks etc, but cannot resign them if they sign Melo instead of trading for him in which we would have to agree

but those players would be UFA if they sign Melo with cap space and teams WOULDN'T have to trade for those players and could just sign them if they have cap space

Nash
Kobe
Nick Young *player option at vet min*
Melo
Sacre

2014 1st rounder
room exemption
vet min
vet min

vet min
....

Well after that one year of pay cut, if possible, I am saying I don't care of Dolan wants to make him the next Joe Johnson
So essentially 1 year of paycut for a bigger pay out for the long term, more importantly, having the pieces that will allow him to contend for the rest of his career of the Knicks
Considering we traded half a roster for him, if he really does want to win and be in NYK, I don't see it as being a big deal, because we obviously do under the table deals with JR Smith and his bay bro, with CAA as well...

Ron I understand and appreciate your efforts here.. the problem is carmelo is clueless and selfish. He is not taking one dollar less, even if it meant winning. I am convinced of that.. at least not here in NY..

maybe so TFK

but this is the only way I can see us keeping Melo and POSSIBLY contending at the same time

Again, I am asking him to take 1 year less, while it would actually even back out at a near max contract, because I just don't see another team offering him that type of contract
It comes down to, if he thinks he really wants to be in NY and if he really wants to WIN in NYK
IF I was promised to make minimum wage or under for one year, while my stress would be much lowered and I would be happy for the rest of my career, and after that 1 year, I made the max possible guaranteed the years after, and still be praised as a SAINT for doing so, I would do it no hesitation

Especially if my BOSS and COMPANY has been always having my back and doing everything to treat my like a KING even though there are much better option out there better than me
Putting BS rumors to protect my image and choosing me over a worker that was much more efficient than me, able to do do things I wasn't, and he was cost efficient financially than me, other coworker's favorites and made them happier workers (LIN)

With constant manager's above me telling me I was not listening my orders, which I made quit, cause the BOSS favored me (DANTONI)

Chose my needs and wants over the company and TEAM's BEST INTEREST...
ON TOP OF buying me out in my old JOB and PAYING BIG BUCKS TO OBTAIN me to begin with

If you guys want to go there, go ahead, I didn't want to, I asked a simple question, if anyone knew it was POSSIBLE under the new CBA or not....

I agree. For him to take a paycut for a team that is willing to spend to build around him is nut. He is in the best situation. All this team needs is a legitimate PG to contend.

If Melo is willing to take less why would he comeback to the Knicks. Dolan is banking on Melo being all about the Money.

He cant do what you're suggesting, if he takes a less than max one year salary he'll never get that max again as he'll fall under the new cba's max which is considerably less than what he can earn.

And I'm sure both the players union and league would look into that as it goes against the spirit of the cba.

I know as fans we want the player to think about us, but that really isnt why they are there.

The performer always exists before his fanbase does....not the other way around.

Many here are just reading the "IF MELO TAKES A BIG PAYCUT" and responding to it, rather than reading what I am actually saying...

This is my last attempt in explaining what I mean, either you understand it or you don't
IF MELO is going to get a maxish deal in 2016 and take less in 2015, it really isn't taking a pay cut
It is basically getting payed LATER than sooner
although he is taking a risk with a possible career ending surgery

I timeline everything, some posters here don't understand the cap/cap hold etc
I don't want to get too specific about that, either you understand it, or look it up yourself if you dont.....

but

I think we need a PLAN to follow through an execute with, to either let Melo walk for NOTHING or hope he takes a pay cut for 1 year in order to build a contender around him
1 year is NOTHING, if we have a under the table deal like we did with JR Smith, Chris Smith, and other CAA clients
This could be his legacy that he wants as Melo would be able to avoid his "SELFISH label" and say "I TOOK LESS" for the better of the Knick's
Even though I DON"T THINK ANYONE WOULD PAY HIM A MAX EXTENSION anyway

And I don't think he would hesitate one second, if LEBRON JAMES would come to play with him in NY, IF MELO was still able to get a maxish type deal with a player option the following year, Lebron James can make Melo the GOTO MAN in scoring at times, with the ability to cover his DEF liabilities and carry the facilitating and leadership role away from Melo
By 2015 considering Melo already has made his 100m contract, money should not be an issue with him at this point of his career in 2015, in addition to his other salaries/endorsements that he has already made for 6years prior to his big NYK deal as the #3 pick of the draft

Carmelo Anthony's current salary in NY

2013-2014
=============

This year $21,490,000

2014-15
============================
$23,530,000
(Melo has player option) I am saying DON'T OPT OUT here and play it through if he really wants to stay in NY and be a contender

target players with 3m MINI MLE like

Sessions
Bayless
Mo Williams (player option)

Vasquez or Lowry if Toronto lets either walk for nothing but Vasquez is a RFA, though he could let both walk for nothing...

Ariza
Marion (despite his age, he is surprisingly still one of the better versatile SF/PF in the game but will he suddenly disappear/regress like Gerald Wallace did?

Amir Johnson (team option)
Jordan Hill
Dalembert (team option)
Channing Frye???
Gortat (doubt available at this price)

or

maybe divide it up for 2 players like

Darren Collison (majority of mini MLE)
Nate Robinson *PLAYER OPTION*

Jeffery Taylor

Dante Cunningham
Blairre

Kaman
Jermaine Oneal

players that might even get a vet min deals or slightly more

Aaron Brooks
Ridnour
Steve Blake

Sefelosha (maybe even a 2 year vet min deal)

Brandon Rush (currently recovering from knee surgery but prior to his injury was a double double threat in rebounds/pts, and combined 2-4 steals/blocks, with 50% shooting, 40% 3ptr, 1 per game, all in limited minutes, maybe even a 2 year guaranteed deal at vet min is a possibility)

Kris Humphries
Chris Johnson (vet min deal)
James Singleton

2015-16 Season (UFA)
=============================

Hire a COACH, GM, PRESIDENT, ASSiSTANT/DEVELOPMENT COACH/STAFF that will work well together with the players that would attract and add credibility to target FA's with
Along with the decision making to build a TEAM that FITS TOGETHER well with and is well respected by the league

What I am saying is take a salary as a KNICK of just say anywhere from 8-12m with player option this year
Where would be the NBA's best UFA season of FA's

recruit UFA's as a CORE for our next 5-6 years to compete with

of course Lebron James would be the #1 target if available

Kevin Love/Aldridge
Hibbert, Marc Gasol??

if we can grab 2 of these players in addition to Melo, to form our big 3, we would have a LEGIT talent around Melo to build around
Looking at Miami, Houston, and a few other teams, this will a big year where "FRIENDS" can choose to play and recruit each other, maybe even taking slightly less each, in order to form their own TRIO like Lebron, Wade, and Bosh did

Rhondo ( I don't really consider him an ALL STAR unless he improves his shooting and I just don't think he would fit with just MELO alone as a scorer, would need another very strong option, especially because of his injury and shooting liability (there must be 3 GREAT efficient shooters to make up for him or 4 other shooters which means our C has to be able to shoot to spread the floor so he can penetrate)

Don't get me wrong, he is very capable of putting up great numbers but he had a younger Pierce, KG, Ray Allen, and some great chemistry to go with other talents that complimented him, especially on BOTH ENDS

Players with player options and/or might not get a long term deal because many teams will be looking to clear salary to form a 2-3 ALL STAR caliber talents and are UNDER the max range

Rudy Gay

Al Jefferson
Paul Millsap

Bynum?
Pau Gasol?
Spencer Hawes ** CHEAPER VERSION of KLOVE at C, without the post and rebounding, but great 3pt range and decent passing ability **

Younger, solid role players, with all different price rangers

Dragic *PLAYER OPTION*
Lin
Reggie Jackson
Patrick Beverely/ Norris Cole

Gereld Henderson
Wesley Matthews

Wilson Chandler (TEAM OPTION)
Theadous Young (10m PLAYER OPTION)
Chase Budinger (player option)

Asik
Varejo
DeAndre Jordan

Channing Frye???
Marreese Speights
Amir Johnson
Ed Davis
Koufous
Mosgov

We would still have the ROOM EXEMPTION, the same one we used to sign JR Smith at lower than his market price and eventually kept

Vets
======

don't know who will retire and who will still be able to contribute, but someone like Duncan could be signed for leadership/experience and for future development coach, guaranteeing him a high paying job when he is ready to retire, especially if we can grab Poppavich, maybe have Poppavich as our Head Coach and future president of operations, while Duncan will become our head coach

Parker
Mo Williams
Andre Miller???
Randy Foye (player option)

Ginobili likely will be broken

Duncan (sign him to a 2-3 year deal at 2-3m per year or with room exemption, with player option (while letting him retire with the money, so in a sense for 1 or 2 years max, but letting him retire a year earlier, while he helps develop a player like Jeremy Tyler or whoever, as Poppovich grooms Duncan to be our next head coach

ZBO
Boozer

Players/Role players/ low risk/high reward at SMALL DEALS
Either with cap space or room exemption, or so

Dorell Wright
Jeremy Evans

Anthony Randolph, still will be young and much more mature by then
Nick Collison

Robin Lopez

and many names we might not even consider or know of right now but could be attractive a couple years later
The price of a vet min player and slightly more, could be a BIG difference in terms of talent with the way the new CBA is structured
Many talented players fall off to cheap prices

2016-17 Season
=====================

Opt out of this contract, then sign for 20-30m 4-5 year deal (under the table deal, just like JR Smith has done with the Knick's with Chris Smith)
Now, is anyone really going to pay Melo a 4-5 year deal at this number?
He is not really taking a pay cut, he is taking a risk on his career though, if he gets a major injury

IF NOT

OPT OUT and sign a 4-5 year deal of 100-135m contract, after we are able to line Melo up with

Still have the MLE, might be 3-6m depending on what our TEAM salary would be and the TAX threshold by then

Key: T = Team Option, P = Player Option, N= Partial/Non-Guaranteed, Q = Qualifying Offer, * = Option in Prior Year
For a more detailed explanation of restricted free agency, check out Larry Coon’s NBA Salary Cap FAQ.
Players are roughly sorted in value, with the presumed most desirable player at the top of each list. Players who play multiple positions are listed where they play most often.
Definition of Options
A player headed into an option year the following season cannot be traded after the trade deadline (near the draft, etc.) without the player or team picking the option to stay.
Team Option – The decision is up to the team. If the team invokes the option by June 30th (or an earlier, agreed-upon date), the player is under contract for one more season. If the team does nothing, the player becomes an unrestricted free agent (if the player has three years or less of experience, the team can still then issue him a Qualifying Offer and make him restricted, but this scenario is unlikely).
Player Option – The decision is up to the player. If he invokes the option by June 30th (or an earlier, agreed-upon date), he is under contract for one more season. If he does nothing, he becomes an unrestricted free agent.
Early Termination Option – Slightly different from the Player Option (impacting trade kickers differently than player options), but the decision is still up to the player. If he invokes the option by June 30th (or an earlier, agreed-upon date), he becomes an unrestricted free agent. If he does nothing, he is under contract for the duration of the original deal.
Partial/Non-Guaranteed Salary – Often confused with a team option, partial/non-guaranteed contracts can be traded after the season is complete, whether or not his next year’s salary is guaranteed. Language specific to that player’s contract often dictates the decision date but that can be changed by mutual agreement between the franchise and the player. For the 2012/13 season, all players on a roster as of January 10 are guaranteed for the remainder of the year.

well, D12 left extra 30m on that possibility to join a team in which he thought improves his chances of contending

IF we are not going to consider trading Melo and we realize we cannot build a contending TEAM around him while paying him a 20m+ salary
Then we don't have much options if we are looking to improve our roster

or we can simply just sit back and bash any possible chance of improving our team on other posters here

And i honestly don't think any team is going to pay Melo that type of money anyway so if this is possible,
this might be Melo's best chances in both competing for a title and receiving a max contract, while gambling a bit 1 year, but still have guaranteed money coming in with player options if it he does get injured

Does he really want to be in NYK like he claimed he once did and want to stay and COMPETE in NYK like he just said he did this summer....

With Greviez Vasquez heading to Toronto, I wonder if Uri values him or not, and if he could be pryed away at a small price and maybe even for the
He is kind of similar to a younger Calderon in a sense

Does he value Lowry and see Lowry with Vasquez together or if one will walk with no compensation this summer
I doubt the 3m MLE would be enough for either prospect although Lowry hasn't been doing much since getting hurt back in Houston a couple years back

IF MELO TAKES A BIG PAYCUT
