Franco,
about 4 years ago to the day Nalod had a heart attack (didn't know it) and had open heart surgery to correct a birth defect. Health insurance picked up all but 6 grand of the $100k bill!
Im not crapping out, just made a decision that watching 60 games at three hours each is 180 hours, or 7 and a half days if watched 24 hours in a row. I work about 8 hours a day's so thats 22 work like days. Or, a month.
Yeah, 60 knicks games is like a month of work. Damn!!! So when I take my compensation and divide it by 12 I then look at that figure and think is it worth it? The Knicks habit equates to 1/12th and put it into monetary terms, it puts a perspective thts different. That does not include the reading and internet time!
I think one game a week should be enough. Knicks on a lot, I'll catch some good games from time to time.
Chris Smith is not worth my time.
Scary stuff Nalod- are you back to 100%? Though it sounds like that experience has really change your outlook on life. I suddenly feel bad at all the times I've jokingly mentioned having a heart attack while watching Knick games!
I think the healthcare system overcharges- I know it was dangerous surgery, but was it really $100,000 worth of labor and parts?! Did they install diamond encrusted valves?!
The thing I hate most about losing is that I've essentially just wasted two or three hours of my life- especially if the team didn't even bother to try. 40 points in one Q? Pfff, an absolute joke. I'm very conscious of the passing of time, and I do a lot of traveling back and forth, so I always think that's 3 hours I could have spent doing something either more enjoyable or more important.
I just hope we can turn it around, so watching Knicks games is actually enjoyable again.
Im back to 150% and doing things I was not capable of doing. The heart attack was minor so it was not a scarey event. Ignorance is bliss.
Due to family history I knew could have the condition So I had been seeing a cardiologist since I was 35. Good to baseline when healthy so a change is easily read.
Luck: when preperation meets oportunity!!! I was lucky because I was in good shape, seeing a doc and mentally prepared if my number came.
Few operations leave you better than you went in. Im so much better than I was than the previous 5 years. It was a slow decline so it kind of creeps up on ya! The priority is always to play tennis, hit the gym, walk 4 miles on trails behind my house, or use my Rower or eliptical. I'd watch games while doing that sometimes. I worked out before my operation but it was a real struggle to keep pushing. I did and it helped a lot. BIggest change of priority is I get my physical work done 6 days a week!!!! Its been 4 years now and I have had two colds each last less than 24 hours a piece. I used to get bad bronciol symptoms all the time. None since. Allergies all went away. Head aches all gone. Skin looks better. Im pissed off my hair never came back!!!!LOL!
Actually the whole hoop passion died with me when my daughter was born the same spring the knick lost in the finals to the Rockets. I realized win or lose its not putting food on the table, getting the yard done, or expanding my brain. The next day I was fine and realized my elation would have brief also.
Knick since then have mostly been constructed win an insincere roster designed to win enought to keep revenue strong. Im a social creature so I like to chat here about it.
Change is good. I used to be into cars and had a nice garage. Moved 5 years ago to change some things. My club has indoor tennis and 10,000 square foot gym and I can walk to it in 7 minutes. gave up the 4 car garage and some nice toys. Had my fun, but wanted to do other things. The surgery came just after that so in a way my body was telling me to do so.
I have a stand up desk and am on my feet 6 hours a day to help circulation and have better legs to play tennis. Was tired of pulling hamstrings and I think it was from sitting the majority of the day.
Yeah, I tell my story and tell all that don't ever NOT have open heart surgery out of fear. As for the cost of health care, yeah our system is very phuched up and IM ok with Obama making a go at it. Its not like the old way was working! As for the costs, well lets just say Im glad I had the coverage!
Knicks are my team and always will be but IM a fan of good basketball and always pick NY teams so if the Nets make a run I'll enjoy that. Knicks have been in a state of various decay since 1974. ITs when Paramount bought the team and bought in Sonny Werblin. Since then its been a mess. Take out Ewing (yes, draft that star people!!!!) and we never have the era either!!!
