I think his defense has been vastly overrated around here. He is a willing and at times tenacious defender, but he gambles a lot, he reaches a lot as well. He still has a ways to go.. offensively his jumper looks better, but he needs to work on his playmaking skills. My hopes for him are to be where Lance Stephenson is.. Enough of this paul george lite BS talk.. lets get him to Lance level and we would be great with that. This is why when it comes to building a team and developing young players, you have to be consistent when it comes to the type of role you are trying to get them to play. Honestly I have no clue what the knicks are doing with shumpert and I think it is more their fault than his...
Shumpert has the physical tools to be a lock down defender. The problem is that his defensive IQ and instincts hasn't matured or developed since leaving college. Thats something either comes early, comes late or never develops at all. But you need a solid culture around Shump to help develop that IQ, like the Spurs for example. Thats why they can take an average player and turn him into a solid rotation player or starter. Shumpert doesnt have that luxury in NY, unfortunately. I think he's still a keeper, but we have to temper our expectations and give him room to grow or trade him.
i infer from your insights that shumpert is doomed playing in new york. the knicks franchise is not an incubator it's an incinerator. i think his play thus far is an unspoken protest to the sickening culture that exists at msg, thanks to dolan and the people he attracts and favors.
just my two cents.
can we agree, blkexec, that this franchise is "not a model of intelligent management" as that douchebag david stern has asserted?
knicks win 38-43 games in 16-17. rose MUST shoot no more than 14 shots per game, defer to kp6 + melo, and have a usage rate of less than 25%
