it seems that every day there is some new sad news about him.

Wow that seems a bit harsh. I can understand being frustrated with his health issues, but it's not like he wants to have bad knees. In fact he's done more on his bad knees than a lot of players have ever done. I actually hope he can get to play in the post season and have some kind of impact. We've had players that just took the money and never gave a damn, but he's actually working his butt off to rehab and play. He doesn't deserve to be lumped in with the Jerome James or Eddy Curry types.

You're right nix, it's harsh. But it has nothing to do with his health issues. I feel for him on that account. It has everything to do with his lack of effort, his posing as a player with heart, only to stand idle on D and rely on the few tricks he can still employ to score. He's a has-been whose ego won't admit when it's time to step down.

Shump is a champ imo, while Stat is a chump.

on one hand i can't blame him for his bum knees and the fact that dolans cut the fat checks,

on the other, he does not make it better by repeatedly running the wild talk

If Stat does retire for medical reasons, what does that mean salary wise? I know he still gets paid, but does his salary come off the cap? What options might that free up either during the season (trade) or offseason (free agents)?

He won't, there's no point in even thinking about it. Would you walk away from your last pay check of $23mil-$46mil, knowing you would never work or earn that kind of figure again? All he has to do is keep rehabbing through injuries, and he gets rewarded with tens of millions of dollars- he'd be a fool to retire.

Amar'e wouldn't qualify- I think it's only if a doctor deems it "career ending"- ie Amar'e HAS to retire as he can't play. He's not quite at that stage yet. Thats where big salaries really bite a team (as we found with Houston)- when a player isn't injured badly enough to be forced to retire, but is injured badly enough to significantly impact their performance. It's the worst case scenario.

will amar'e ever play another game in orange and blue??
