That 'woe is Melo' stuff is corny. He gets MVP chants all the time at the Garden. Everyone recognizes talent. What fans want is the team to be a real contender.

I think Melo will opt out and resign with the Knicks. Why go to L.A. when he could do the same thing here in NY?

Kobe Should come to NY. Kobe is a legacy guy that would boost it big time if he ended this drought. Maybe im just thinking wishfully

That's so sad. LA is used to having great stars, and would welcome Melo as their star. Our fan base never sees stars, and when we actually get one don't know how to react so just treat him like crap. I think Melo realizes the future of this team with a nice young group as well as cap space. Should be able to put another star beside him in 2015. Only reason I see Melo leaving to LA is to follow lebron there, but not on his own.

If Lebron was there I wouldnt blame him at all for leaving

I don't know why any player that's worth their salt and really wants to make their mark on the game would run to LA and just be another player in their long history of championships. You win one chip in NY and you are a legend for life. Check all the guys from the '86 Mets...their still royalty. Walt Clyde, Reed, and the other guys from the last Knicks chip teams are being more revered with each passing year as the drought continues in NY. And if the Nets pull get a ring before the Knicks, that would just be devastating.

Bring a trophy to MSG after a 40 plus year absence and you never pay for another drink or meal in NY ever again. In LA you'll never really be as good as Magic, Kareem, Wilt, Shaq, or Ms. Rapey. I like Melo and hope he gets the pieces needed to really make a run at a chip for NY. Do I want it for him like I did for Patrick? Hell no, I want it now more for us...the fans. But if Melo can make it happen, I'll be more than happy with that.

Are you a Yankees fan? The same could be used as a reason to never join the Yankees.

It must be a slow sports news day today. What bothers me the most is that we will be hearing about this all season and this is a distraction for other players on thier team. Sports writers should at least have some respect for the game but they don't . They love to stirr up trouble. Thats what they love to do. Now almost everyday we will hear about Melo and LeBron going to LA. Hey why not New York? Kobe already said he ain't taking no pay cut and I doubt Melo will take one to go to LA. The Media love to stirr up trouble.

I remember a time when players did not flock to the Yankees. Example would be mid-80s thru 1994. In 1992, Yankees fans cried ineptitude and wanted Gene Michael fired after Free Agent Greg Maddux spurned the Yankees and accepted less money to play with the Braves. During that time period, the Yankees were not that good and would either have to grossly overpay Free Agents or settle for lesser guys. As we know, turned out to be a blessing in disguise as homegrown guys like Jeter, Rivera, Posada, Pettitte etc developed and were combined with other acquisitions to form a really good winning core.

If the Yankees stink once again....it will become more difficult to lure FA's. Same thing with the Lakers. Since Jerry Bus died, they have just not been run as well as they used to be and it will be more difficult to lure and retain talent.

Don't worry, it's not happening for the same reason Dwight didn't re-sign. Nelly breaks down why on first take:

It was. Remember when A-Roid said he didn't want to play for the Yankees but rather wanted to beat the Yankees and signed his mega deal with the Rangers? FA's used to run from us like we were trying to give them herpes. However, you really can't compare basketball and baseball. The Yankees can choose to pay whatever they want to pay. The Knicks have to play within the rules.

Kobe will never leave L.A. and L.A. for some reason feels like they owe him some sort of debt. For all the crap many here give to the Knicks the Lakers screwed the pooch.

Mistake #1 - Hiring MDA
Mistake #2 - Not firing MDA for Dwight
Mistake #3 - Not using their amnesty on Kobe

#3 If I'm the Lakers I have a conversation with Kobe that we're going to amnesty him but want him back the following year. We're resigning Dwight and need Kobe to take a pay cut so we can add in Melo or Lebron maybe both so he can match MJ. Kobe makes nice with the media and states that he will retire if anyone tries to bid on him.

and if you think that you are totally out of touch the NYC Yankee fan. The reason to join is because winning in NY is better than anywhere. Ask ARod how he felt after his one WS win. I cant stand the guy but I always respect and loved watching what he did that year.
