Just admit you're wrong and if teams were attempting to do a Carmelo type deal for either of them, then they would have struck out making your initial premise comical.
Teams won't have to sacrifice much in order to land(SIGNIFICANT) Free Agents this summer and my list blew your assessment to smithereens.
Your list doesnt mean anything.
Teams want DIFFERENCE MAKERS.
Milsap and Jefferson are role players. They put up solid stats on losing teams.
Josh Smith wants the max and Igoudala wants that last big pay day.
milsap and jefferson depending on the team, can be difference makers... I am sure last year, no one would have considered paul George or Hibbert Difference makers...
josh smith may want the max, but if no team is willing to pay max.. josh isn't getting max... but if a team feels they need a josh smith and decides to overpay, how is that any different from what we did with amare, chandler and carmelo?
Yeah I guarantee Josh Smith ends up being a better Max contract then Amare Stoudamire.
Cant look at the players or contracts in a vacuum depends on the team talent and the situation they have with the cap.If u have 2 emerging star players on rookie deals a year from FA and your choice is sign Josh Smith now or dont and be maxed out anyway when u have to give them their contracts then signing Smith as your 3rd guy could make sense.
Personally I cant stand how the cap works it isnt logical with the exceptions and Bird Rights.U can build a very strong team if you tank for 2-3 years and accumulate as many assets as u can get with short term contracts/rookie deals. If u can time it right to get 2 FA's at the same time before those players get deals u can have a sick team. If we had the Cavs 2014/15 flexibility with all the young players we would be in a very good spot because players would sign here. The Cavs have about 20 million next year in 5 players plus their 4 draft picks. So they would have 9 players under 25 , 4 of them being premium draft picks plus 30 million in cap space. If I was Lebron I would want to go back looking at that team. If that team was in a major market like Chicago,NY or LA FA's would be running there
