What would you prefer from Melo: 18 FGAs, 4+ assists or 23 FGAs and 1 to 2 assists?

To be fair, MDA really had great ideas on offense, but he was too dependant on the PG and didn't use Melo to post up and effectively iao.

Not saying it is better with Woodson. His offensive deficiencies are well known here and it looked like he list the team at some point because they became undisciplined, immature, lacked effort and urgency.

So MDA needed a defensive specialist and Woodson needs an offensive specialist.

We still need a complete coach.

You probably have a valid point about the post ups.
Any coach is gonna look dependent on PGs when Baron Davis and Mike Bibby are your only options though.

Melo takes this many FGA/gm for 2 reasons...

1 - He Lust To Shoot The Rock

2 - The Players around him feel less significant or are stamped down while on the court with him ultimately coming to brainstorming conclusions..... it's near impossible to construct a team around him that compliments his skillets where it can win at the highest level.

The irony and Hypocrisy in all of this...the greater portion of the fan base is willing to give the organization as much time necessary to figure out what roster will work for Melo, while OTOH if the organization infuses youth on the team they want to see immediate star potential otherwise scrap the game plan and acquire the most talented, malcontent, underachiever.... as possible to make them feel at ease.

So why was Denver trying to keep and resign Melo??

Because they had Lawson/Afflalo/Cap Space-Expiring contracts/Future picks....to not only re-sign Melo but to get younger, add pieces, and to play a style of basketball more suited to today's game. Also they could sign Melo and then trade him...you know like they did Nene/Afflalo/Harrington.

Last I checked Denver is Denver and we're the Knicks

Next idiotic question?

So they wanted to resign Melo to trade him...Hahahahahahahahahh...They look like they could have used Melo in the playoffs...

Yep....

Denver looked like they could have used Paul George or Tony Allen or Marc Gasol in the playoffs....to stop the Warriors from dropping 110+....

Hahahahahahahahahh and another Hahahahahahahahahh

Well if your theory is correct they got exactly what they were looking for a trade of Melo for assets...Only think tho it resulted in a first round exit...

Right, whereas a second round exit to team that has no supertsars proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that unless you have Melo you just can't win.

My Theory was proven correct with 2 teams Indiana and GSW...young teams who made it just as far if not further than the Knicks...

I'm about having a young team to grow with and have success

You're about having an old team to fold with creating a mess

NEXT?

Who did Indy and GS trade away for young assets?????

They didn't they held on to their players and didn't get caught up in the hype....

Klay was sought after by OKC for Harden....they said no thanks. I believe Steph Curry was mentioned in the Melo rumors once again they held on to him.

Indy didn't S&T Hibbert to Portland a la David Lee to GSW..... but instead matched his offer sheet. They didn't trade their second pick Lance Stephenson to get someone like O.J. Mayo. They also didn't Landry Fields him(same draft class btw and act like he was the gift and then once trades and new acquisitions were made treat him like the curse)

What had any of those players showed up until those moments? Not a whole lot. Curry was about as fragile as they come......Galloesque. I wonder if Warrior fans were pulling their hairs out hoping Melo or Rudy Gay would come their way because of Peter Pan's ankles? I doubt it.

Oh and the Warriors were offered Chandler for pick 7 but they said no we'd rather select Harrison Barnes and keep him

Once again....

Melo can shoot much as he likes as long as he shoots 50%. But if his shot isn't there than other facets of his game needs to get better. His handle is very weak and passing skills are below average. Next year Melo needs to get better in this area. It's very simple.
1) 50% shooting for the entire season
2) be able to dribble the length of the court at full speed. A keen eye will see that he cannot do this.
3) get better with the passing, get teammates involved.

Well if the Knicks hadn't traded last years pick in the McGrady trade and D'Antoni didn't resign maybe D'Ant could have positioned them to get Lilliard.

Melo didn't take advantage of having played well doing what MDA was asking him to do in the Olympics and applying that to his game permanently. He actually was doing those things at the start of the season but he eventually went back to his old ways. Going ISO should be a last resort. It's literally one of the least efficient plays in BB especially in the playoffs. One particular problem with doing it too much is that it stalls everyone else on the floor and usually your role players don't excel when you aren't running a TEAM BB concept.

IMO Melo wanted Woody and they made a dangerous combo since Woody has a tendency to allow more ISO than Melo's previous coaches. It's a mistake to think MDA was somehow wrong not to post Melo more. That's what Melo wanted everyone to think. The truth is he was dogging it and wasn't really giving Ball and Player movement a chance under MDA.

In the regular season, Anthony was in isolation on 26 percent of Knicks' plays that ended with a field goal attempt, free throw or turnover from the All-Star. He had a 41.8 field goal percentage on such plays, according to data compiled by ESPN Stats & Information.

In the playoffs, Anthony has been in isolation on 43 percent of plays that end with the ball in his hand and has shot just 31 percent from the floor on those plays.

With the use of play tracking data and video from mySynergySports, we can see that the Knicks have registered just 0.74 points per play (PPP) on plays finished with an isolation, post-up, or spot-up created by an isolation or post-up throughout this series. They are shooting just 48-143 (33.6 percent) on 190 such plays. Conversely, the Knicks have scored 1.12 PPP on plays finished out of the the pick-and-roll, whether by the ball handler, the roll man, or a spot-up shooter. They are 73-148 (49.3 percent) from the field on 156 such plays.

i put in my two cents last night in the game thread:

1) he needs to improve his scoring efficiency
2) he needs to improve at getting his teammates involved and engaged so they can be more dependable
3) he needs to improve his defense
4) he needs to improve his conditioning so he doesn't fade in the 4th quarters
5) he needs to incorporate more ball and head fakes to draw more fouls
6) he needs to improve his footwork by working with hakeem olajuwon or tim duncan or pau gasol
in sum he needs to learn how to play FOR others.

a lot of common ground in the wish list for this overrated cat.

knicks win 38-43 games in 16-17. rose MUST shoot no more than 14 shots per game, defer to kp6 + melo, and have a usage rate of less than 25%

I forgot to add he needs to go to Tony Parker's school of finishing around the basket. The miss and put back doesn't carry weight anymore.

True he is bringing the same bag of tricks year in and year out. He should take a page out of LeBron and Durant it's time for Melo to challenge himself to get to a higher level of play.

I wanna see Melo get lower in the post, get to the rim more, draw the doubles, and then pick up his hockey assists. In this offense and his playstyle(which is his strength) he'll never be a 4-5 assist guy, but when he gets his scoring game going efficiently, he draws an extra defender and does a good job of kicking out the ball. I'd love to see the stats if the NBA recorded hockey assists. Any decent defense isn't getting burned off one pass unless you're a crafty pg or have the pocket pass off the pick n roll in your arsenal.

I disagree. He's taking 25 shots. He should get a few assists a game just by accident.
Hockey assists in general are pretty low. The recordings I've seen are that the top players get just 1.5 or at most 2 a game. In the NBA, there's a lot of one on one play with no assists and with one pass and assist but no hockey assists. I doubt Melo's getting more than one a game.

funny how melo has the lowest assist avg among all NBA scoring champs (except for shaq) in nba history or at least the last 20 seasons..the guy has no desire to make anyone better..

He's not changing...Players don't evolve into something different after a decade in the league.... unless 2 conditions take place....

1 - Said player experiences a major injury and recovers from it but has to alter game

2 - Organization forces him to play a different role with the team

He could channel his inner self(which he needs to in the worst way) but he won't

The other two guys that are supposed to be the Knicks superstar trio scored a combined 4 points. The rest of the team shot just under 34% last night. If you take shump's shooting out the rest of the team shot 28%. He doesn't need world beaters. Even if JR or Tyson had a normal game the Knicks most likely force a game 7. Who are the heroes on the current team that Melo is neglecting?
