Would not mind Jeffries back either and another 2nd round pick....
They want a legit C so Aldridge to pair with and do not see Hickson as a C for the long haul...

The trade exemption would be the key for this trade as it would allow us to add a player in the 10m+ range or resign JR with
If JR continues to play like crap I wonder if we can keep him at the 5m or so that we can offer or/and with a backloaded offer *not sure if these are still possible*
While getting a 10m exemption for a #2 or 3 option to go with Melo and some 2nd round picks with high potential to fill the roster

Are you suggesting the Knicks trade Tyson for the rights to their second round pick from last year and a trade exemption or am I misunderstanding something?

Yes Crush, by getting the trade exemption, we would be eligible to make sign and trades once again, by going under the luxury tax
Also we would get the FULL MLE of 5m vs mini MLE (3m) to use and maybe even the 2m bi annual exemption as well
So if we could get any 2nd round picks out of it, I see it as a plus
On top if it, we could either use it to resign JR or another FA or trade in addition to assets to use for trades with 2nd rounders

So if we are able to trade Tyson Chandler to a team that is under the cap and can is willing to take his contract it would give us much more flexibility to continue to build a team around with what we have vs the limited abilities we have with being over the tax with overpaid players and little ability outside of vet min contracts, 3m MLE, and our 1 draft pick

I can see teams like Pacers/Spurs/Clippers getting much deeper with their team and with their flexibility in their cap
Lets not forget some of these teams still have the ability to use their amnesty as well and could steal some of our FA's including

JR 32m for 3-4 years (8m per year)or 20m for 2 years (10m per year)
Copeland 2-3m for 2-3 years
Martin 2-2.5m for 2 years or even a team option for 2nd

just by offering a little bit more
While we will have to continue to look for vet min steals that will run away next year if they produce

We're suppose to be a title contending team, so I can't see us trading a significant member of the team for essentially nothing. That trade exception would only be pursued if there was a current star that is available, which I don't think any team would give up for cap space/flexibility. Besides, the Blazers should at least give up their draft pick in this draft for a top 10 center in the league.

The team has options besides trading Chandler. They can trade Camby to a team looking to dump cash if they give them 3 mil to pay for Camby's contract next year. I could see Orl giving up on Jameer or Afflalo.

I don't think we'll have a 2nd round pick for the rest of the decade. We traded a ton of picks.

I think both players should be on the Knicks radar but I doubt Camby is enough. Nelson and Afflalo are starters, so we'd need assets that include young players and/or pick(s) to interest in a rebuilding franchise.

Very creative thinking. If the Knicks lose to Indiana it will be an interesting offseason. I think the Knicks bring Prigs back with a raise. I hope they find a way to bring back Cope, Martin and JR. I worry about the Knicks having to rely on KMart/Amare too much if they trade Tyson. Both guys have had micro fracture surgery and I think KMart benefitted from having a long time off this year.

Jermaine O'Neal is a free agent and he's managed to stay healthy/productive all season. Maybe we could sign him if he decides to note retire. Even we did sign him though, we'd still be pretty shaky at the 5 since I doubt he'd be able to play more than 20mpg.

How about Chandler and our rights to our 1st round pick this summer

for

14m Trade Exemption, Kostas Papanikolauo (Grunwald went to scout him this season), 3 our their 2nd round picks this year at picks about picks 39,40,45, and a future 2nd round pick or 2?)

Chandler is not the same player he was last season although he made the 1st team for DEF this year
Not sure if Portland would laugh at this offer because Chandler at 14m is over paid, while 6m more they could get Pau Gasol and has only 1 year left
We would lose the rights to this year's pick at 24 but there are multiple picks/assets we could use in trades/develop with that amount of 2nd round picks to improve in many positions

Again, by going under the tax, we can participate in S&T's, 14m trade exemption to sign a FA, possibly gain the full 5m MLE vs 3m MLE, and even the 2m bi annual exemption to use
Those 2nd round picks would come in handy to use for trades and S&T's as well...

I am not sure if we are allowed to cheat the system by using the 5m MLE first, and using the 2m bi annual exemption, then using the 14m trade exemption for a FA or trade AFTER which would put us over the tax bracket again

IF so, that would give us legit shots at signing players that want more than the vet min, and do we have a shot at Cp3?

Last year in Istanbul, NBA executives were left in awe with his performances. Something that this year in London didn’t happen, but there was no need for something similar. Kostas Papanikolaou of Olympiacos, winner of this year’s “rising star award” as his team defended their title in London, has already proved that he is one of the best European players and this why many NBA teams are thinking of approaching Portland to acquire his rights.

Blazers followed him closely throughout the season, but at this point it seems that “Pap” in not on the immediate plans of Neil Olshey. Portland (besides starter Nicolas Batum) also has another talented European forward with Spaniard Victor Claver and is no need to “overload” the small forward position.

In fact Olshey didn’t travel in London, where only Blazers’ scout Jason Filipi was present. So there is a strong chance that the Blazers will trade his rights and many teams has shown interest. Spurs and Mavericks are among them, as well as the Knicks who drafted Papanikolaou on No48 of last year’s draft. Knicks GM Glen Grunwald visited London for a day, just to watch him on the semifinal against CSKA!

RonRON...Dolan and these knicks are NOT going to trade Tyson Chandler
Knicks should be improved: win about 40 games and maybe sneak into the playoffs. Melo, Rose and even Noah will have some nice moments however this team should be about PORZINGUS. the sooner they make him the primary player, the better

I think we'd have a better shot of Chris Paul WITH Tyson Chandler in tow. Besides, there is a general rule of thumb that you don't trade big for small. They should amend it to include not trading (a talented, top 10 center) big for next to nothing in return. Portland would have to give up at least first rounders in a decent draft for me to consider that.

I don't understand how or why people still go crazy over Europeans. The success he's having over there is almost all but guaranteed not to translate to the NBA. Hell, James White was tearing up those leagues and he can't even break into our rotation. I would not be giving up any serious value for a bet that is against the odds.

Our draft pick from last year Kostas Papanikolauo
