GS and Houston have young and legit stars, which is the biggest reason they're on the rise.

Denver doesn't, which is the biggest reason they're not on the rise.

Okay Denver was never on the rise when Melo was there....so why did we trade for him? He lost repeatedly in the first round.

This is why having Melo and continuing to build around him is so important win or lose this series. And this is also why you can never count out Boston, because Pierce and Garnett can still play like the superstars they once were for the majority of a playoff series. this is where your argument fails.. when was that series a grind it out series? scores were well into the 100's..

And why are we struggling in grind it out games? You are now going to use the argument that Garnett and pierce are playing like superstars? come on man... Denver lost because they didn't defend like they could, and Golden state played their game better than denver did for the most part.. didn't help that denver was missing gallanari but this series was about guard play, sometimes a team can present a matchup problem.. plain and simple... both are young teams with room to grow...

Pierce took over in game 5 and Curry has taken over all series. Stars win in the playoffs plain and simple. Denver doesn't have that. Fortunately, we do.

And grind it out doesn't mean low scoring. It means having better opportunities to take advantage of every possession on offense and playing better defense.

Stars win in the playoffs plain and simple. Denver doesn't have that. Fortunately, we do.

so when we don't win it all, does that mean we don't have a star? why didn't we win last year?

your argument is flawed...

In the end, the league has about 4 stars.. we don't have one... GSW don't have one, Denver doesn't have one, the nets don't have one..... so basically you are admitting that the finals will be decided between, harden, durant, Duncan, pierce or lebron?

What's the cause and what's the effect? I need to have a car to get to work. If I don't get to work, it doesn't necessarily mean I don't have a car.

you are pretty much defending , my point... I don't think you realize that..

Not sitting on either side of this fence. I agree that failure does not necessarily mean you don't have a star.

Do I consider anyone on Denver a star? No, but I think they have a lot of guys that are close, and their depth is enough that can lead to playoff success. And yes, I consider Curry a star. Several other factors had to click for that effort to not go in vain, but it's nice to have that one guy to carry you the extra mile when necessary.

Kudos to Curry for having a big series. I picked GS as an upset, like the team, shooters were hot. I'll be rooting for them against SA.

curry became a star in the playoffs, but there were just a few of us here that actually thought of him in high regards, actually look back at the thread of who had more impact, curry or carmelo, and I chose curry, without blinking an eye.. knick fans now will champion curry because they beat denver, and to validate the carmelo trade.. the problem is, you can't use other players to do that, carmelo has to validate that, and so far he hasn't.. that is what most NY fans don't get.. 18-59 just doesn't cut it, and it certainly doesn't make you a go to guy, because you like to shoot..

Stars Win that is true. Gallo was a big loss for Denver. That's their guy outside of Lawson. But, being healthy is big part of being a star in this league.

Melo isn't a star until he wins a playoff series, in NY.

11' .375%
12' .419%
13' .394% 5rbs 1.2 assists

If he puts the team on his back tonight, we have a star. If not we have a volume shooter.

Durant meanwhile is averaging 7.8rbs 6assist a game and shooting .486 from the field. Stars do other things to make people better not isolate the offense. There is no defending a guy that is getting 1.2 assists and stinking it up from the field.

Tonight is the night that defines him as a player.

Since we have a star, we expect great things! Right?

We a 2nd seed against a 7th seed. No excuses right? Garnet and Pierce are "fading" stars. 7th seed stars.

lets win a round or two!!!! Then celebrate!

Tonight is the night that defines him as a player.

you make some valid points, but one game doesn't define a player to be fair here.. but honestly he has a career of proving he is not a star, and either way, he should not be judged just on one game tonight..

I mean if he fails tonight, what you are saying is the trade was monumental failure... well that is not really fair....I think his reputation was earned over the years with his body of work and playoff failure... to judge him fairly from now on, it will take more than just this one game, although losing tonight won't help him...

You do need stars to win in the playoffs but I don't believe this is a proper example since Gallo was missing. Gallo is no star but their success this season was predicated in part on Gallo's contribution to their overall record.

Amare has been a non-factor since the trade with all his injuries. Im talking PRE-AMARE. Gallinari and Chandler couldnt get up to the playoffs in the East. That is FACT. We were hoping and praying they would turn into great players. Denver fans are still holding out hope I guess.

Gallinari and Chandler took us straight to the lottery. Oh and they'd be sitting with their suits on the bench with Amare with all their injuries.

I dont think the Knicks have the personnel to go far this year. However, I feel with a overhaul of the roster we could do damage.

How many times has Curry been past the first round?

1 Time..... correct answer fellas

How many times has Paul George made the Playoffs?

3 Times in his 3 yr career....correct answer fellas

How many times has Paul George made it past the first round?

1 Time.....correct answer fellas and appears to be going on his 2nd

Just goes to show it doesn't take 10-11yrs to cover the basics when you get to the post-season if you're a STAR/SUPERSTAR

Once again looks like I have to repeat this again....

His system has been to the ECF(1) and WCF(2-3times) and a Finals(1)

and he's in the Top 6 All-Time winningest coaches list.

Don Nelson is #1 so what is your point?

I dont recall Don Nelson doing much with the Warriors right before he retired.

Despite many efforts, no one has ever provided systematic statistical evidence that something different wins in the post-season vs. regular season.
In this case, it was a rough match-up for Denver and they were hit hard by injuries. Their starters missed more games than ours did last post-season (when we were supposedly decimated by injuries).

I don't think Curry will be championed just because it was Denver. Curry is "the pick that was stolen". Large group of us were excited to see Curry in a Knicks uniform only for Donnie Nelson to torture us one pick away. I'm sure there is a small group of the anti-Denver contingent that may do so, but Curry has already provided enough to admire long before this postseason, including that 54 point performance in the Garden. I'm a big Melo supporter, and even I'd be torn if I got the chance to choose one or the other.

I prefer not to get into the Melo vs. Denver, Melo vs. Houston debates just because it seems like the same folks spouting the same thing each time, both sides focusing too hard on spite. I do legitimately enjoy watching GS though, due to a combination of Lee, Curry, Thompson, and at the time Udoh (I was still at Baylor when GS drafted him). It's just scary how lights out that backcourt of Curry and Thompson is from deep. If both are on, you're going to have trouble, regardless of your stars.

Yeah Curry was definitely the pick that got away. Up until draft time i thought Jordan Hill was going to GS as they were looking at him as best available big man. Curry would have been the one asset held thru all of the rennovations over the past few years. We would have only had cap space for 1 max guy, but they would have tried to sell Lebron to the idea of Curry, Gallo, W Chandler, and Lee being his ideal supporting cast. But even though Lebron wouldn't have come we would still use the same major assets to acquire Melo. What a combo Melo and Curry would be.

I think the stars are what makes winning a possibility. In other words, you probably can't win without one. But the supporting cast is what can push things over the top.

In very rare isolated cases, you can win a championship without a star. But the only time I recall it happening was the 2003 Detroit Pistons.

Also, one thing to take into account: The player who is considered 'the better player', 'the bigger star', etc... That's often the guy who starts winning in the playoffs. So, ultimately, it is a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.

Yes exactly right. And people can say what they want about the Pistons, not having a "superstar" but they had 4 all-stars (Billups, Hamilton, Sheed, and Ben Wallace) in their primes, so again it all depends on your idea of star. All of these players were stars in some way at a point in time.

It only supports the few who said young teams are on the rise...GSW and Rockets who are still alive are evidence of this. Denver will return

Young teams are always on the rise because they have low expectations.

Washington Wizards were on the rise.
Philadelphia 76ers were on the rise.
Chicago Bulls were on the rise.

Teams got hyped then faded to black. Chicago is the exception because they got lucky and picked up Derrick Rose. Noah, Hinrch, Deng were the future once upon a time.

if you support the knicks and the geriatric movement that is fine, some of us preferred a different direction... but these young teams, Houston, Denver, GS, OKC, Indiana, chicago all of those teams are the future of the NBA.. get used to it...

These veteran teams, like boston, LA, etc are no longer dominant, can they pull out a final run in a series, yes, but their time dwindling.. these young teams will replace them.... miami because their star player is still young( and the best in the business)will be one of the few veteran teams that will stay atop...

What young players can play and compete while representing the Knicks in NYC at MSG in the PLAYOFFS with the organ going(dun dun) and the crowd yelling DEFENSE from the beginning to the end of games???

You have to have older veterans playing in those games for the knicks, cause even some vets + young pups although talented can't handle the pressure presented there. The mood & atmosphere at the garden during the playoffs, is surreal everybody can't produce there and if they do they are very special people.

Now guys on the opposing teams can play well, but when they put on a knicks uni they get a lil tight.

So save all that young talent crap, because when the playoffs come nobody wants to shoot, everybody wants to get an assist.

It's one reason why Lebron didn't come an many others in their prime won't, expectations are so high (43 yrs). So the argument of getting young talent with no veteran leadership playing and not (just sitting) on the bench will only sell tickets not win a CHAMPIONSHIP !

JAMES DOLAN on Isiah : He's a good friend of mine and of the organization and I will continue to solicit his views. He will always have strong ties to me and the team.
