Welp! Looks like Cope might have to suit up at Center against the Bulls Thursday night...

Tyson Chandler, Kenyon Martin out

Chandler missed Tuesday's win against the Washington Wizards thanks to lingering soreness in his neck. The All-Star center missed 10 games last month with a bulging disk in his neck.

Martin suffered what Knicks coach Mike Woodson called a "severe" left ankle sprain early in the fourth quarter Tuesday. The Knicks said X-rays on Martin's ankle were negative. He had missed the previous two games with a sore left knee.

New York has won 13 straight games, the third-longest winning streak in franchise history. The Knicks clinched their first division title in 19 years on Tuesday and enter play Wednesday 2 games ahead of the Indiana Pacers for second place in the Eastern Conference.

However, the Knicks are 0-3 this season against the Bulls.

Chandler returned to the court last week but told Woodson that he needed to rest on Tuesday after feeling soreness following Sunday's win in Oklahoma City.

"He's sore, so if he tells me he needs some rest, then I've got to listen and rest him and get him ready for the next game if he's capable of playing," Woodson said Tuesday.

Marcus Camby is also listed as doubtful for the game because of a left plantar fascia ailment. If Camby can't play, the Knicks will be woefully undersized against Chicago.

New York's tallest healthy player would be 6-foot-10 Steve Novak, a 3-point specialist, meaning Chris Copeland and Carmelo Anthony likely would play extensively together on the front line.

Melo and Copeland in our starting front-court - with Novak as our backup center? That's ridiculous but there's no better option.

I am not sure if Camby is actually injured or if he is one "vet" that cannot get earn Woody's trust for whatever reason...

Cope-Sanity
he has been playing well as the stretch 5 and I am not sure if he would get that opportunity to see if KT was able to play in addition to the injuries of Amare, Wallace, and even Martin

do you believe think that is the main reason Camby has barely played the entire year?
He collected many DNP's and 10 minute or less games in which we had no bigs available to play...
Last year, when Camby gets 25-30minutes, he is very productive and was not very productive 5 to under 15minute role or ever playing that 3rd string role in his career
He never quite got the opportunity to play such minutes this year, while he had almost 3 games with under 20minutes in which 1 was efficient even with many shorthanded games in which we were vs teams with size and penetration

Just saying, Grunweld traded for him because he was attracted to Camby's efficiency/consistency, to go with a possible double double in points/rebounds, a possibility to pull 20 rebounds on a game, and with a pair of steals/blocks, in the 25minutes + he had played the past recent couple years and ever since he was traded from New York to Denver
So for this year, he is a veteran minimum talent, but to be fair, he does not gotten much PT and has not really complained

Is it fair to say Camby is done or if he isn't getting the minutes/opportunities he needs to thrive?
I think it is quite inconclusive because we have not seen enough of him, in which I don't know if it is more on Camby or Woodson but it is NOT plantar fascilities
Just saying.... I don't think Woodson has been saving Camby for the play offs either

With our lack of big men maybe he finally will get a chance that I thought he would have gotten many times earlier in the season

Camby is made of glass. He is still better than Ryan Hollins though.

Wow didnt realize Camby was 39. No wonder he isnt playing. Guy might turn to dust at any moment.

I don't agree and I could be wrong
I think Woodson does not think too highly of him for whatever reason and that is why he has as many DNP's as he has had and has barely played all year when we had no bigs at all

There was a report the other day, pre-game or during the game where they said that if Camby planted wrong he could re-injure himself and be gone for the rest of the season. Hahn seems to be pretty keyed into Woodson and has said he is just being extra careful with Camby so that he has him for the post season if possible.

From Iannazzone:
Mike Woodson has seen something from Chris Copeland recently and hopes to see more of it. Copeland has been

giving the effort on the defensive end that Woodson has been asking of him.

The Knicks will need more from Copeland with Tyson Chandler and Kenyon Martin both out both games of this trip.

“He’s been solid all year,” Woodson said. “I’ve been on Cope because I want to see him get better all around not just scoring the basketball and it’s going to help us. We need guys to defend. It’s great that he can put the ball in the hole and he’s done an excellent job in that area but I need him to defend like he did the other night [in OKC]." about a minute ago

After he was cut by L’Hospitalet, Copeland hung around Barcelona, spending hours at a time walking around the city, trying to stretch out the last few dollars to his name. He knew if he flew back home, it was unlikely any team interested in him would be willing to invest in a plane ticket for his services back to Europe. He called his agent every day, to see if any teams had asked about him. He was just hoping for a try-out somewhere, anywhere.

After a couple weeks he was thrown a lifeline. A small club in the tiny Dutch municipality of Nijmegen, near the German border, was looking for a scoring forward. They didn’t have much money but it didn’t matter, Copeland probably would have paid them for the opportunity to play.

"I had never heard of basketball in the Netherlands but it was all I had. No one else wanted me," he said.

Cope's story of perseverance is the best Knicks human interest story of the past 10 years.

Including Lin.

The only different is the coverage.

yeah, He definitely needs a movie deal. Seriously a 29 yr old rookie is amazing. Then again look at Mike James in Dallas but he has bounced in and out. I am not sure how old when he got his first chance. ba

Back to Cope: On top of all of that Chris Smith injury probably really opened the door.

Copeland has been a great surprise
