I believe it was Forbes last year that put out another very bad basketball article. If I am remembering right it was about Lin and was just a ton of misinformation.

Lots of overpaid players in the league but Melo is tops. He only does one thing well that is to SCORE and he is not efficient at it. Its not that hard. Naming a bunch of injured players means nothing - Strawman argument because it doesn't in anyway address the points made in the article. Clearly there are people even outside of UK board who thinks Melo is the most overpaid player in the NBA - deal with it.
TKF on Melo ::....he is a punk, a jerk, a self absorbed out of shape, self aggrandizing, unprofessional, volume chucking coach killing playoff loser!!

A note on making judgment calls for hurt players: we generally didn’t include strong players that have missed significant time with injuries recently, like Derrick Rose or Amare Stoudemire. But we did include those that have has trouble staying healthy for extended periods (at some point you need to show you can stay on the court), or whose performance had been fading for awhile anyway (like Hedo Turkoglu).

Hasnt Amare proven that he cant stay on the court for long?
Knicksfan: Hypocrite league that fines players after the game for flopping but in the game and with obvious flopping they call the fouls.

Sometimes your eyes can tell you things that statistics can't quite describe. Anthony is scoring at a prolific rate, but it has been exactly what the team has needed, when the team has needed it. The metrics also reward his teammates for the work he does, the wins in the win shares are his, and the players who can't create their own offense live off the double- and triple-teaming Anthony absorbs.

Few top scorers have really high FG% like Durant or James. But 44% with the usage he gets is actually pretty decent. This number is actually probably higher for practical purposes(not by a huge amount) from all the offensive rebounds and put backs of his own shots that Melo gets. I wouldn't call him inefficient. Not sure how Joe Johnson who makes more money per the article is less overpaid than Melo too.

"with the usage he gets"

what does this really mean? given his lack of actual playmaking for others this statement is a misleading excuse. his usage is high because he doesn't have the playmaking skills to create. happily for his fans he is actually moving the ball much much better over the last good number of games. so while not actually creating to justify his usage he at least is creating some cohesion for the team as opposed to destroying it.

this is the best we can expect from him and it might be enough to put the team over the top. but the better teams have a number of games to adjust. i still have visions of lebron james's ball denial from last year and i wonder what woodson and melo are going to cook up this time around, should the knicks make it to the ecf.

knicks win 38-43 games in 16-17. rose MUST shoot no more than 14 shots per game, defer to kp6 + melo, and have a usage rate of less than 25%

Hopefully Woodson and melo cook up a healthy backcourt and front court. Bibby, Douglas, fields, Jeffries, Jorts, and even Jordan had to play last year. Next time the Knicks trade away young players and picks lets hope it isn't for a guy with uninsurable knees that almost ends his career with self-injurious behavior in the playoffs. Yeah the heat series was on melo.

I agree that the inefficiency argument is a bit played this season. His true shooting percentage is above the league average for small forwards and his turnover rate is below average. We don't need him to be Andre Iguadola when he's able to score so effectively.

Always... always remember: Less is less. More is more. More is better and twice as much is good too. Not enough is bad, and too much is never enough except when it's just about right. - The Tick

It's no excuse. Focal points of the offense get more defensive attention. It turns average to above average offensive players into momentum killing chuckers who shoot 40% from the field. You think if teams keyed on stopping Tyson Chandler he'd have a high FG%? He's an afterthought. Melo's usuage is high because he's good. If he wasn't he'd be a J Craw back when he was a Knick or JR Smith for most of the season. No he's not Lebron or Durant. But that's doesn't mean he's the most overpaid player.

"good" as in "hot." as long as the shots are falling then the usage is justified. but when either (a) melo cools off or (b) the defense is stifling, then melo is not so good.

similarly, the knicks offense has been "good" as in "hot" lately. yet the defense has been just average. what happens when the knicks cool off, as they probably will? two things have to happen: (a) the defense has to get better and (b) both melo and jr need to get to the line more and pass the ball more.

knicks win 38-43 games in 16-17. rose MUST shoot no more than 14 shots per game, defer to kp6 + melo, and have a usage rate of less than 25%

You mean you feel the formula they used is a joke, right? The article was just reporting the results of the formula.

Yea I agree with Guns. This article and the formula are both jokes.

If Joe Johnson ($19.75 million ) isn't the tops of the list with mediocre stats by even Joe Johnson's standards let alone elite 2 guard status, then there's no way he's 3rd on the list behind Anthony($19.4 million).

Article and formula debunked.
