For me Felton has been much more than somewhat of a disappointment, especially on the defensive end. He is the laziest switch guy on the Knicks, and it's not often that he gives good effort to move his feet and stick with his man, even on poorly formed picks. At the slightest hint of a pick, he switches off, which creates some horrible mismatches. The Knicks have been switching more prudently recently, and only as a last resort with bigs like Chandler, except in the case of Felton.

I think Melos a little more lazy when it comes to this. Sometimes he signals for a switch before even making contact with the screener. I do think Feltons pretty bad though.

Yeah, Melo was #2 on my list for the poor switch thing, but he wasn't as obvious to me as Felton.

Papabear Says

In the draft.

The draft, but we can't expect much from a rookie. See how Lin is playing this month. I have to throw that in there for the Lin haters. With our current team he would be that piece for us.
Anyway, back down to Earth. Depending on what we do this year, we have to consider trying to make a trade for a PG, a pretty good one. We need another scoring threat that can break down
defenses and see the floor well and defend. JR can do some of that IF he keeps driving. But, it would be ideal to get a pg to do that for us. And, we are going to have to pay for it.

Or, we get really really lucky (again) and find a pg somewhere, be it the draft, a FA, etc.

If that PG is Chris Paul then I would agree...But I think we are one player who can be take the scoring burden away from Melo...Taking 25/30 shots a game isn't a recipe for victory...Outside of JR, we really don't have another consistent scoring threat..

I think it's easy to attack Felton or the point guard position because of who he is replacing. But Felton has been playing of Priggy, JR and Melo very well the last couple of weeks.

The knicks have not started a shooting guard or power forward pretty much all season, think they would do better starting there.

We definitely don't need a shooting guard, we have two capable ones in JR and Shumpert. The reason they're not starting/playing out of position is because we're starting 2 point guards since we're not getting enough performance out of one. If we improve our point guard play one of our shooting guards is starting at their natural position.

ehehe, Chris Paul in our dreams. But boy, we CERTAINLY would be favorites. Melo is a GREAT piece to have (but I agree, taking 25/30 shots a game is not what we need, every game anyway) In the playoffs defenses will key on him and get physical (getting into his head) and we don't have much around him to score. JR is still up in the air, but I have a feeling he is making adjustments to take more of his game inside. I think we just became a MUCH better team because of that. Really, JR can be our IT factor and yes, it is a scary thought. But he has been our Wade recently, a younger one at that...

But, to have a PG that can defend (which Ray is not so good at) and can score just a bit better than Ray, sees the floor a bit better, that would put us over the hump imo. Let's say on a scale of 1-10 that Ray is a 5 or 6, we need a 7 or 8 imo. Not a whole lot better, but a bit better. It might not take the best PG, but one that fits our team chemistry wise. He is going to need to be young to defend well. We never know what may come our way..

Totally agree with your points...It's kind of crazy but Melo thinks he is the best player every time he steps on the floor...We need another guy of that ilk to compete with the Heat..Which is why I brought up CP3...Just two guys who have that belief system that could cast doubt in the minds of Bron and his crew might be enough to get by them...Amare was suppose to be that guy..So close but yet so far...I'm just not sure if a great PG is as important as another good scorer..After all, great floor vision isn't going to turn the players we have into better shooters...

JR is that player so all you need is a PG that can also get you an efficient 12-15 ppg and the offense is fine. Copeland off the bench will get better too.

If you are thinking about competing against the Heat...JR's game just isn't consistent enough to be regarded a reliable side kick to Melo...JR should be the Chris Bosh of this team...The third (ancillary) scorer...Not to be relied upon for the win but his on (again) night's explosion can push you over the top...

But how does that kind of PG take us over the top?? ..I'm not sure if we swap out Felton with say, Mike Conley, Lowry or a Vasquez, how that puts us over the top...

Because we have deadly shooters on the team and nobody to pass them the ball off of dribble penetration. As of right now, most of the time they get the ball in scoring position off of multiple passes. We have guys that can break down the defense with penetration(Felton from PnR, Smith and even Shump. But we almost never see any passes once they break down the d. If we had that PG, FELTON I AM LOOKING AT YOU, we would play inside out and our 3point shooting would be a lot more sustainable.

Imagine this. Hypothetical of course. A wide open Novak, a wide open Melo, Shumpert, JR, Kidd, Copeland and Priggs getting a pass of off penetration. Those are good shots because they are good 3point shooters. Yes, some of them are deadly and are not being used to their full potential. No other team has a larger amount of deadly 3 point shooters(heat are close). If we can get some penetration and dishing for the 3 action it will add a super dimension to this team. Penetration us damn hard to stop in today's NBA and I honestly think that even a small improvement in that department (even without trades, just having our guys work on it in practice)can put us over the top.

Not sure about that..Novak can't hit a shot unless he is wide open, he won't be open in the playoffs..Melo shoots 38%, JR 35.5%, Felton 35.4%, Kidd 35%, Novak 42.8%, Copland 40.4%, Shrump 41.2%, Prigs 37.5% from the three...Those are bad numbers as a team...Think about it, Shump is the best percentage 3 point shooter of our starters...

Not only are they not bad, if you take the top 3-4 guys just based off of their % alone that's pretty phenominal or deadly. Now, if you give them a way to shoot a better % ( pg that can penetrate and dish) now you have a recipe for a good offense, when you add the option to iso with melo or Smith , now you have a championship worthy offense, imho

Yeah, those are good numbers. The occasional low percentage 2 point shots is what hurts most of those players.
