He's that type of player: when he's hot, you love him, when he's not hot, he leaves a lot to dust off the table

Papabear Says

I think JR Smith is taking it to another level. Let's give the guy some credit. We need JR to play like this when we get the heat

I always said Knicks can do damage if they get the right amount of hot at the right time, JR is a part of that,

At the same time, I'm looking at the bigger picture and this isn't the first time JR has had a hot streak where he was God of Buckets for a few games,

He'll never turn the corner because he will never be at the corner

Papabear Says

I wouldn't say that. And thats just your opinion. and please don't pull out any stats to me. This however has been the best JR has played in his career. Never say never in this game. Woody has been in JR's ear along with guys like Larry Johnson who I respect. With out hope, trust, and hard work then sure you may not succeed. But I'm not going to sit on my couch or go to a game and not root and hope and yell and shout for a win.
Man stay positive it's going to be alright.

Maybe those whining about the so-called "whiners" are the unhappy ones.
Who were you referring to that was whining in this thread anyway?

I think he wasn't referring to anyone directly but anyway lets get back on the topic. I think the Melo lite is more like the Lone Ranger and Tonto or Batman and Robin.

It must pain you too see the Knicks win.

No are you arguing that Smith hasn't been more efficient than Melo? Actually Smith probably has locked up 6th Man Of The Year...Good for him...

Tonight

Smith shot 12-18 for 37pts....

Melo shot 11-28 for 32pts.....

I called him Melo Lite weeks ago, like several weeks ago and he's played very well since..

Melo being on the floor allows opportunities for Smith.

Melo is being doubled and moving the ball. Only difference is guys are hitting shots again.

Also Smith is able to work in the paint since Chandler is not clogging the middle.

Smith's scoring prowess allows opportunity for Melo to have ISO situations. Let's stop acting like Melo is DT'd every single time he touches the ball because he's not.

Seven wins in a row is only a reason to cite relative weakness of opponents

Right now JR's in such a zone that he has for the past few games outperformed every one (including Melo).
That's not to say Melo was bad by any means, he still put up good numbers, it's just that JR's been so damn good lately.
I'd love for him to keep up this level of playing but unless your name is LeBron James you really can't expect a player to do that.
I'm sure he'll hit a low point again this season, but although I might be temporarily pissed I will support him and cheer him on, because I'm aware of his worth to this team.

But is he outright better than Melo? No, ofcourse not.

If JR Smith takes it to the rack and takes a healthy number a short to mid range shots, he can be as good a scorer as he wants. If he continues taking the ball to the rack then we can continue to expect his good play. He has every bit of athletic capability to do this so it's all mental for JR. Hopefully he keeps up with this mentality.

Runaway Child, Running Wild

20 - Over his last 20 games, J.R. averaged 22.1 points on 45 percent shooting, including a 38 percent mark from downtown. When one considers that Earl is taking fewer three point shots (only one tonight), the 38 percent mark from outside (in the last 20) the arc becomes even juicier.

10 - Over the last 10 games, Earl is shooting 49 percent from the field. Over the last 5 games he has attempted more than 3 long distance shots only once, when he attempted 7 vs Memphis, an aberration. The other for games, he only attempted three. That paradigm shift from his career average of 5 three's attempted per game is the difference.

5 - In his last 5 games he is shooting a ridiculous 57 percent.

3 - Smith has scored 30 in three straight games off the bench, becoming the first player to do so since Ricky Pierce in 1990, and the first in franchise history. "He hasn't taken a bad shot in three games" - Jason Kidd on Friday night.

2 - Where it gets stupid crazy is getting to the line. As Earl stays enamored with his drivers license, (coined before reading the Ian Begley piece) to visit the free throw line more than 10 times a game as he has done in his last two superstar efforts, he becomes impossible to defend or game plan for.

1 - On an off night... Mr. Smith helped Beat Boston with a double double and 4 assists. 7-10 free throws.

(Footnote: His 5 rebound average pgm has been consistent all season.)

Elder statesment, Mr. Kidd was quoted as saying that Mr. Earl Smith was more than slightly perturbed that he missed ANY free throws. The HOF'r and the 2013 Sixth ManBeast of the Year award winner consult on their golf game several times per contest.
