The Answer Man Was Once Blind, But Now He Sees

This is the worst statement I have heard in a long time. I play ball and have watched a lot of the great players play and if you think it is not personal your blind. I won't get deep into it but just think before you type.

Please, get deep into it.

Just typing without thinking, as always.

I miss Marcus Camby.

But with arguably his deepest and most seasoned supporting cast this season in New York, he's ready to sacrifice the high scoring Anthony has always been known for.

"I don't want to try to put all that burden on myself to go out there and try to do everything, so I'm willing to make any sacrifice in my game regardless of what anybody else says," he told ESPNNewYork.com on Friday. "If my scoring goes from 27 to 23, I'm cool with that. Right now, I'm willing to make any sacrifice that I have to."

“For me personally, I’m in my 10th year,’’ Anthony said. “Everyone pretty much knows I can score the basketball. But for me to challenge myself, instill the trust into my teammates to give them that confidence when they do shoot the ball, to have that confidence that they can make it happen as well.

I’m done trying to score 35, 40 points to win the basketball game. I don’t want that role anymore. I can do it. That’s what I do. But in order for this team to be successful, for guys we have right now, we need a more well-rounded team. If I have to sacrifice on the offensive end, I’m willing to do it. It’s easy for me to sit here and say it. But this year it’s going to be locking in and doing it as the leader of this team.’’

I was going to bump the thread.....it was something along the lines of "Carmelo Anthony Willing To Make Sacrifice"....and as you said you, I, and I believe maybe 2-3 other posters saw this BS for what it was. We specifically honed in on his quote where he's counting handicapping his pts/scoring average down to a specific range. Which goes to show how he views the game, he knows exactly what his stats are and where his touches quota is.

Perhaps he meant he was done trying to score "only" 35 to 40 points.

WHEN we were teenagers we used to play in these tournaments in NYC, and one of the big things was keeping up with stats during games.. I mean after all, what did we know? we were kids, the more you scored the more bragging you can do when you get back to the block, oh yea, and the win, that was good too..... LOL

during the games there were times my friend after he scored would yell out, "18, 20, 24 etc".. LOL.. I know in that fools mind, carmelo that is, everytime he scores he is counting every single point, yelling it out in his mind, and oh yea, if the knicks happen to win, that would be nice as well... smh

this guy doesn't fool me one bit...

Please pay no attention to the Answer Man. We all know your worth, Melo. We (and I'm speaking for most of the Homer fan contingent) all know we'd rather have you with the ball in your warm hands at the end of the game after shooting 40% or even 30% then holding our breath hoping JR catches some rim with the last second step back. While you've been getting cold watching others shoot and miss.

We all know Johnny "Crisp" Novak is not to be trusted at big spots at this point in his fledgling career. Give the boy a few more seasons. Provided he doesn't get some stupidly ridiculous contract from Charlotte or the Jazz or some such thing.

We all know you've spent two very long seasons here trying things like trusting people like Fishlips. We understand, that at times, you see RayRay and no one can fault you for having Toney Douglas flashbacks.

Thankfully, there's really no one on this squad that could even bring a shuddering thought of Landry Fields to your mind's eye. KMart is ugly, but we all know, and you as well, that he's efficient. Efficency, however, is nice in accounting. You aren't an accountant, you are a scorer. Continue to be all that you can be. You am that you am!

Keep shooting Melo. You are the only constant starhope this AARP squad has, your short stints on the IR aside. We know this. You know this. The city knows this. And most importantly, Woody knows this.

We've seen you save the bacon plenty of times these past three seasons.

Excuse me now, while I go bump the YouTube Melo thread...

Hmmmmmmm, first in the division?
Someone on the team who's capable of scoring lots of points?
Someone on the team that Kobe considers an actual problem to guard?

I know, as a knick fan, we've ALWAYS had someone like that.

Melo was all that and in the "discussion". Why did he depart from the all around game?

I don't think it was sustainable and we had the personel to continue.

NBA players say all the right stuff when you shove a microphoine to them. ALL OF THEM!

Melo is having a very good season. Its just not as even as most would like.

We are in first place and the winning can be ugly at times. I don't find fault in that.

tkf doesn't fool The Answer Man one bit

during the games there were times my friend after he scored would yell out, "18, 20, 24 etc".. LOL.. I know in that fools mind, carmelo that is, everytime he scores he is counting every single point, yelling it out in his mind, and oh yea, if the knicks happen to win, that would be nice as well... smh

During the most intense summer pickup games there were times one dude would exclaim, "too late!", at the precise moment the ball left his fingers. Some shots went in. Some did not. That did not necessarily make him a liar. We thought the line was highly entertaining.

As jrodmc points out, no one knows what (cough) that fool Carmelo Anthony is thinking in Boston's TD Bank whatever arena. Mr. Anthony could be thinking about Shump's mix tape, the cost of a new muffler for the ride... or Lala's monthly charges on her Saks card. He could be thinking as mikesknicks thinks, and personally trying to avenge every comment he has heard from a Celtics fan, player, employee or Boston hotel worker over the past ten years. In that case it IS very personal. I doubt it.

Maybe it's just a New York thing. That ain't a bad thing. Defend the honor and pride of the city?

Cool.

"Let's just be quite frank about it. We always want to beat Boston. New York, in anything, wants to beat Boston. And when we do, it’s a great feeling."

He could be thinking that doing what he does is the best way to deliver a win. Which is why you play the game. Not to avenge your woman, your Momma's name or your nourish your ego.

You play to win.

I hear that so many times in defense of carmelo.. what value does that actually have... maybe no one else in the league feels that way...miami acutally allows battier to guard carmelo because the key is to make him shoot(since he is not efficient) and just shut down everyone else.. ok, so kobe believes that, does lebron? does wade? does anyone else? How long are people going to ride that statement that really has little value.... just curious...

Michael Jordan once said, david thompson and walter Davis were players he admired the most ? what does that mean? should we add that to their career accolades? being admired by Jordan?

Glad you didn't ask what first is worth....

MJ once said Petro was one of the toughest covers he ever faced. I think that's a pretty nice accolade coming from someone who might know what he's talking about. Made me think about Petro in a whole different light.
You see, to me what a player the level of Kobe or MJ says about another player has worth. At least much more worth and credibility than average IMHO UK poster might be willing to admit to..

It's okay. Melo's worth nothing.

I sure miss Nate Robinson. Now there's someone who's actually got some worth.

Excuse me now, while I go bump the YouTube Melo thread...

Respectfully yours,
Jrod "he with the three game thread winning streak" mc

what is that worth? Some of us are wondering....

Hmmmmmmm, first in the division?
Someone on the team who's capable of scoring lots of points?
Someone on the team that Kobe considers an actual problem to guard?

I know, as a knick fan, we've ALWAYS had someone like that.

If you were wondering about the worth of the three game thread winning streak, it's currently on sale for one fishmike response.

Michael Jordan is probably one of the worst talent evaluators in the league. Being a great player and being a great analyst are unrelated. It's like the difference between being in great health and having a thorough understanding of the physiological and biochemical mechanisms underlying health.

being a tough cover does not translate to being a winner. when carmelo anthony learns how to win then maybe the statement will have some merit. in the meantime it's the hollowest of praise.
knicks win 38-43 games in 16-17. rose MUST shoot no more than 14 shots per game, defer to kp6 + melo, and have a usage rate of less than 25%

He won in college. He has won in the Olympics. His team is in first in the Atlantic and second in the East. All admireable accomplishments for a team that hasn't seen even a 43 win season in over a decade.

&

If fans didn't know any better and you look at these quotes from the Fat Chipmunks mouth, you'd think he was Trolling this team...

rofl!!!!! i love those quotes.... you and I and a few others, knew it was just talk anyway....

+1 It sounded nice when he said it, but a lot of us know better.

admirable accomplishments... and utterly irrelevant. plenty of good college players busted in the nba. surround melo with talent superior to himself like in the olympics and he'll do just fine.

this team gets bounced in the first or second round he'll have broken no new ground. after 10 games i expected ECF easy.

now, not so much.

So..Miami's gameplan is to let Melo shoot and shut down everyone else. How exactly does that mean that Miami doesnt think hes a tough cover? Boston said their game plan against Lebron's Cavs was to let him get his and just contain the rest of them. So that means Lebron actually sucks?
Knicksfan: Hypocrite league that fines players after the game for flopping but in the game and with obvious flopping they call the fouls.

dk7th - you expected the entire season to be determined by just ten games? Really?

Cool.

Whatever happened to playin' out the entire schedule, one game at a time?
