When 50 wins can get you a 2 or three seed is pretty telling of the conference.

Knicks improving the last two seasons.

We have not sniffed 50 wins in a long time!

50 wins and first place? Not bad!

this team was thrown together to win-now.

the first 10 games they looked like they could contend, although the expectation was ECF appearance.

now the standard for satisfaction has been lowered to getting out of the 1st round?

knicks win 38-43 games in 16-17. rose MUST shoot no more than 14 shots per game, defer to kp6 + melo, and have a usage rate of less than 25%

Its your bar to set anyway you want it.

This might be as good as it gets.

why has the bar been lowered, is it because of amare ( he was out when the bar was EFC) or rasheed being out..The bar had been set from day one before we knew what rasheed was capable of.

50 wins was a bench mark anyway you looked at it, anything less the 49 would be a sub par season and pretty dissappointing.

Starting strong and finishing strong is usually the keys to success..

Who sets the bar?

Nalod Preseason prediction was 52 wins. When Amare went out, I went to 48. Nalod got last years win total on the mark. Its my bar. You have yours.

There is not a right or wrong answer.

Maybe early we played over our heads and Woodson has/is doing great job.

I thought our back court was very limited.

Injuries were to be expected.

Regular season has been better the last two years.

Playoffs? What is the potential? IF we are 2nd seed then you expect the top two teams to square off in the finals.

If parity reigns and there are no great teams in the east except Miami then what is the expectation?

"I hope" Vs. "I expect"?

I hope we win a championship, I expect at least a 1st round advancement! Since injuries are a fluid situation for all, its just hard to say what is the "potential" of this team.

For most of this year the team has exceeded my expectations.

at the beginning of the season i said if they played defense they'd win as many as 55 games, if not then 48 games.

They won 54 in 2009-10, but you're right- that one extra win that they haven't even got yet makes all the difference!

you can't be a running team with melo. this is one of the things that hinders success for teams he plays on. karl had nothing but praise for melo in the last interview i saw, saying that he'll never have a player like melo again in terms of the offensive arsenal he brings to the game.

and denver is not a top-flight defensive team according to its rank. but they are an exciting running team that we have seen is very hard to slow down. given the pace they play at i think the number of points they give up is a little misleading.

this was way before my time, but i remember reading or hearing that the 60s celtics team would basically run opponents out of the gym. russell rebounds and makes an outlet pass, cousy pushing pushing pushing.

i wonder whether coach karl has those teams in the back of his mind.

i am impressed with denver. if iguodala and lawson can tighten up their games just a bit they are going to be successful contenders. also it couldn't hurt to see gallinari regain some touch from 3 point range. he's at 37.4 which is not quite good enough for the sort of team he is playing on. if he can raise it to 40% he would be an allstar.

I have an idea, and this is not a joke at all, why don't you create an ultimatenuggets.com and bring this discussion there. Being the founder of the website you would have total control over its content and dictate the topics for conversation. There would be no annoying Knicks fans trying to talk about their own team on their own website, and you could do whatever you want unhindered by unsophisticated melo lovers that actually want to enjoy watching their team. Just think of it: All Nuggets all the time! Sounds magical to me!

In all seriousness though, this discussion belongs in the NBA forum, not the Knicks one.

And honestly, he would never need that kind of offensive player, ever again.. That style 0f hold the ball, slow things down and watch you waltz for 15 seconds is becoming extinct.. it is now quick decisions, come off screens, move without the ball, quick reaction type offensive players that are easy to build around... guys who are efficient and multifaceted... Karl is playing good politician here... but I am sure he is giddy inside with what he has now.. and how can't you be..

I also agree, that iggy has to tighten things up offensively and I would like to see better shooting from gallo and better decision making with lawson.... again, this team has so much room for growth...

hate? where is the hate, what he said was true, stating they won 54 games does nothing in terms of proving him incorrect here.. I really don't see where it is comical...

maybe if you want to argue that comments about denver doesn't have a place in this thread, I could see that point, but otherwise, what he said was true? is it not?

that was the year billups led that team, i believe... and melo missed 13 games. the team played .610 ball those 13 games without melo. no real falloff. yeah they also made it to the wcf with billups that year. billups was a finals mvp the year detroit won so he knew how to win.

I'll make sure to keep this in mind if we win 49 gms and not 50.....because obviously 1gm is the difference between teams being good or not being good. The point is regular season is regular season. We didn't build this team and make the trades and signings we did to whack over 50gms. It's all about post-season and regular is almost over. We're all anxious but let's not get ahead of ourselves. This team has accomplished nothing.

Think of it like the Patriots who actually won multiple SBs(except we've won nothing) and went 16-0 in the regular season and lost. If you ask The Pats which season would they prefer the one where they went 12-4, 11-5, 13-3.... and won it all or went 16-0 and won jack squat. I can tell you which.

Nobody is talking about that HISTORIC season anymore but people do talk about and remember David Tyree's catch against that HISTORIC team and if I'm not mistaken Tryee isn't in the league anymore....

And the same goes for current Miami Heat team. I don't care about their 27gm winning streak, even if they happen to win out. Sorry you gotta win it all, otherwise it means nothing.

SO YOU CAN TAKE THAT TO THE BANK!!!!!!

Hate, nah-huh, no hate here ! None ! He is only stating the very obvious, 55>54, duh. Its true and there is nothing comical here, being a fan is very serious business. Its such serious business that sometimes real fans run the risk of losing their sense of humor. Its a small price to pay of course, in order to be able to bring the negativity at the slightest opportunity be a real fan.
