Can you elaborate on this? Cause I remember last season there being a lot of talk about Amare's, Lin's, and Dolan's choices also.

It's been all about how to make Melo comfortable. It's his choice of coach, his choice of teammates. We've surrounded him with basically a coach and PG that is focused on getting Melo the ball all the time, his old Nuggets teammates, and old vets that have the credentials for him to respect. He's talking about chemistry and how the Knicks shouldn't be talking about trades, but I don't see a legit contending team right now, do you?

I just think the Knicks aren't going to challenge Melo's wants, although in this case, it looks like he should've just had it drained already. Or, if he is really against needles, sit out, rest, and get treatment because he's not helping out there. Either way, if it's true he's going to get it drained after this game, it does seems like his objective is to make a return to Denver and then deal with the knee more seriously.

All im saying is that the Knicks made Melo the face of the franchise and he is our best player so they're doing what they can to put him in the best situation to win. Its no secret in this league that teams cater to their stars. And no, I dont see a contending team at all but I have hope.

The Knee thing is a totally different issue that im taking a wait and see approach to. If he really is just forcing himself to play so he can have his homecoming in Denver, only to have it drained and sit out for a bit, then im gonna be pretty pissed. With any hope, the release of that rumor will force Melo and the Knicks to take a step back and make the decision thats best for the team(assuming that the rumor is true).

I'm pretty much with you on all that, but catering to one isn't always the best way to win a title. Let's see how this plays out. If he ends up sitting out the rest of the road trip after this game, it just won't look good.

So it looks like this was all about playing in Denver all along. Melo heading back to NY to get his knee drained now that this game is over. This whole approach made no sense. What exactly is this organization doing?

I don't know guys, but I think this thread should have medical experts to tell us on this issue. So far it's been aiming at Melo's will and personality in regards to his knee. It's like reading posts about our government from foreigners in their own languages....

They are away from new york. Wait til they return to all the backlash by the media and fans. With that said i assume Grunwald is in new york. Why did he allow woodson to play melo. Does he have a backbone?

Everything is 20/20 in hindsight. In hindsight it may have been better to miss the road trip all together and rest the knee properly if the idea was to avoid surgery.
I would imagine surgery or any invasive procedure is the last resort with any kind of injury.
I had six months of physical therapy to avoid shoulder surgery. Surgery would have been a quick fix but there are risks involved and no guarantees. If after the six months I found out I would need surgery anyway I would have regretted wasting that time but there's no way I could have known.
He's been playing through it for a month and now has reached the point where there's no improvement and is pursuing the last resort of having it drained.

I liked that he tried to play. They tried to rest it and see if it helped. You do that before you have a proceedure.

I would believe that except that there were rumors reported yesterday morning that the plan was to have Melo play the Denver game and then sit out and take care of the knee. At the time, I thought maybe a bs rumor, but it's starting to look like that was the plan after all. Dumb plan to jeopardize further injury if they knew he was going to have to get it drained just to let him play in his 'homecoming.'

also Chandler doesn't want to get an MRI. As an organization, these players are investments—shouldn't be up to the players to decide to undergo tests.

if the rest didnt seem to help -- the coaches/docs should have stepped in before he tried to play last night, in my view.

from this article: http://espn.go.com/new-york/nba/story/_/id/9050689/carmelo-anthony-tyson-chandler-leave-new-york-knicks-game

this bothers me

"I kind of rolled with what he was thinking," Knicks coach Mike Woodson said. "He wanted to play and we played him. The third quarter, he had to pull out. Melo doesn't pull out of very many games. Obviously, it's bothering him. We're going to send him back to be evaluated."

it isnt clear what the docs thought of all this... maybe there is more to this.

No, not just in hindsight was it a better idea to miss the road trip.

People on this very board questioned the wisdom in playing through his injury for no other reason than to attempt some heroic comeback in Denver.

I heard the team also decided not to have Tyson evaluated even though he couldnt walk off the floor on his own. Do we even have a medical staff? Is that what the big secret is?
