KD is not a good defender, an average passer, an average rebounder, and a great scorer. Doesn't seem very different from Melo to me, besides his superior fg% efficiency. Where did this notion of KD as a jack of all trades even arise?

7.9 rbs is average for an SF? 1.5 steals, 1.2 blocks, 4.6 assists? No way. He's putting up much better big man #s (blocks and rbs) as an SF than Melo is as a PF and much better wing #s (assists, steals) too.

Now we have to change the match-up record to 11-2 since the author is apparently counting games Melo doesn't play in!

Yes, Durant is one of the few players in the league I would take over Melo. He, LeBron, Paul, maybe Derrick Rose if he comes back the way he was, maybe Duncan and maybe Wade. Basically 3 people who are definites.

And then lock that thread and post a link to the Jerome James threads.

Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.

Then Nalod will come off his sabbatical to give a few words and say bye again. 3G will post, DK will post, and TKF will follow with a post quoting one or both of them with a LOL so true bro. JRod will come in and say a few nice words to get the Somber crowd going and then Felton will enter into the topic and some how Lin, Denver, Houston, Paul George, Gallo and etc. NYKM will come back with a new name and join the party too.

Dam it, how did I manage to miss all the drama with NYKM and Nalod.

And it talks about people who actually know Melo and have worked with him and actually have jobs in the NBA who say he is capable of being a great defender, and who normally gets revved up to play defense on the likes of LeQ and Durant. But why read those parts of the article?

In fact, since Anthony -- who's questionable for tonight with a sore and stiff right knee -- has gone head-to-head with Durant since 2007, Melo's teams have an 11-1 record. Melo's only loss to his fellow Olympian came on April 6, 2008, during Durant's rookie season, when the Nuggets fell short in a double-overtime thriller. The three other times Durant, currently the league's leading scorer at 28.6 points per game, beat Anthony's team was when Melo didn't play due to injury.

Hooked on hate works for some. Reading, however, is fundamental.

the only thing to me you can say comparing melo and durant is that i still think melo is a better scorer and arguably the best scorer in the nba right now. he can score in almost everyway possible. durant is still developing a post game but in a year or two he will develop that. durant is a better player though since he can do a lot more. he is arguably a better passer, rebounder and defender. durant is 1b. as the best player in the league while melo is top ten and arguably top 5.

Versatility in methods of scoring and proficiency at scoring are two separate things. Melo is not a better scorer; he's a more versatile scorer. If the buckets counted more when versatility was high, Melo would be a top 3 player in the game.

So why isn't the article about how Durant is 11 - 1 against Melo and is a lockdown defender on versatile scorers like Melo?

Hmmmmmmmmmmm....I really hate facts.

Doesn't Melo led teams have a winning record against Lebron? If so, then the obvious conclusion we should draw is?

Then again, I would take these guys over a lot of NBA players and allstars..

The player greatness is measured by the success of the team(s) he is playing for and his impact on this success.
There are a different ways people call this - "make teammates better", "lead by example", "be mentally strong",
"sacrifice his game to adjust to the team strength", "support his teammates and coaches", etc.
When this all will be applicable to Melo he will be in conversation with great NBA players of now and the past.
For now he is not.

So when Longley is brought in you finally understand the absurdity of comparing players by comparing teams records. I'm glad the analogy helped.
