This was one of most comical moments since he's been a Knick....lol he was there watching his workout like the decision to draft him was falling all on his shoulders but then Walsh switched it up...ha ha ha ha
To be honest the Knicks war room had it down to Shump and Chris Singleton and then Walsh left it up to D'Antoni. Melo didn't even factor into it at all.
woulda been nice if MDA had the brains to suggest faried
Well that's on Walsh and the rest of the scouts. They could've put a priority on Faried if they felt that strongly about him. He wasn't as high on the depth chart. Problem is that Melo and STAT were the priority and getting another guard was put higher on the list than another forward. Just remember that we need Shump to help with Wade.
We need shump to hit a shot and be an efficient scorer. For him to be just a defensive stopper that he better be the best defensive player that we've ever had. He ain't that.
It's an added bonus if Shump hits a shot, but what we need more than anything is to get the teams $20 million dollar player in the game for more than 21 minutes and 7 shot attempts. Meanwhile JR has 18 shot attempts!!! that makes no sense at all. STAT is a much better player than JR and he's proven. All the STAT doubters need to recognize that he's still our 2nd best player and we need him.
Stat may have some left in the tank but he sure cant bring the ball up. Would be nice if he could rebound half as good as JR too.
JR taking 18 shots is/was disgusting and continues and will continue to be. WE ARE IN BIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIG TROUBLE because of our guards or lack thereof. If someone does not see this they are either blind or dumb ... or both.
Having Shump on the court and not being able to hit a shot is awful and just another sign of how bad we are at guard. Him hitting a shot is not a bonus, him hitting MANY shots is a necessity and he is not up for it at this time and I am not sure that he will ever be.
I don't know why you're minimizing the importance of having STAT be a bigger part of what we do. He's clearly a better player than JR. He's far more efficient and he can impact a game if he gets a lot of touches. He's not getting those touches right now. As I said. No reason in the world STAT takes 7 and JR takes 18.
AS for Shump, many guards come into the NBA not being able to shoot. It's still too soon to say what Shump is gonna be. His shot form isn't the worst i've ever seen. For one thing he needs more attempts to really get a feel and he doesn't get that many. You really have to gain confidence but he's not in a situation where they can allow him to build that confidence by taking and missing some shots and not being afraid to shoot it again if he's open.
Shump is only taking 5 shots a game and very few players can get hot taking that few shots. Also he's only played 18 games. You don't know what kind of player Shump is gonna be with such a small sampling so far. Let's just get him thru this season and then take it from there. Right now we need his D and for him to play smarter. I'd like to see him drive more and learn how to finish at the rim better.
