Tyson never gets the ball outside of the lob
In other words Dantoni really screwed the 3 of them up last year by starting the offense 18-23ft out with both Melo and Amare.
The 3 of them have been fine offensively dating back to 18-6 last year under Woodson. Problem is defensively. Thats why Sheed, Camby and a healthy Shumpert will be key down the stretch
I don't think it had much to do with MDA screwing them up. The 1st big issue was a lack of quality PG play. 2nd was STAT and Melo both not being sharp or having their Jumpers working which in STAT's case really hurt cuz his midrange jumpshot is what really opened things up. So not having a good PnR pg and then also having poor shooting versions of STAT and Melo is not a good combination. I'm not saying it would have worked, but given those problems it sure didn't give them the best shot to make it work.
Things looked a lot better once Lin played and you could see some floor balance. The 18-6 thing wasn't so much about great offense, but rather Melo got stupid hot for a month and the teams Defensive effort picked up greatly once Melo started giving max effort. That combo lasted for about a month, but it wasn't a real plan for sustained efficiency. You can't rely on Melo being that hot for an entire season, which he's never done. Even right now this team needs more than a hot Melo to be effective.
