Huh? I don't understand this trade for Memphis or Detroit and only kind of understand it for Toronto.

Now the joy of my world is in Zion How beautiful if nothing more Than to wait at Zion's door I've never been in love like this before Now let me pray to keep you from The perils that will surely come

Memphis made an excellent trade if what is reported as true. They have proven to win games(at least last year) regardless if Gay plays or not. Toronto did okay at least they have a better star player than Bargs, who they can now move without much reservation although his value has to be at an All-Time low.

Memphis

Sends
Gay/Haddadi

Receives
Ed Davis(young stud)
Austin Daye(young rotation player)
Prince(nice vet for playoff push)
2nd round pick(extra asset is never a bad thing)

Toronto

Sends
Ed Davis
Calderon

Receives
Gay(nice near all star caliber talent to help for a playoff push)
Haddadi(serviceable big)

Detroit

Sends
Prince/Day

Receives
Calderon(nice expiring contract)

Source just told me Detroit part of the deal has not yet been finalized. But Gay/Haddadi for Davis/Calderon portion is done.

Check that, I just learned Austin Daye's PER is higher than Rudy Gay's. My bad. Great trade for Memphis

Memphis is making a huge mistake. When you (or I myself personally) think of a Memphis offensive attack? You think high flying. Young athletic freaks on that squad.

Toronto will become big time winners. Gay is by far the best overall player A career average of 17.9 points, 5.8boards, 2.0 assists, .452 shooting percentage, 1.3 steals. 0.9 blocks and only 2.3 turnovers per game. The kicker? He's only 26 years of age as a proven NBA talent. His potential is very high. His overall talents, as of right now, go through the roof (overall talent wise).

Why trade an overall talent such as Gay with a team record of 29-15 for a PG in Jose who's Raptors are 16-29 overall. Calderon is one of the most overrated PG's around. A true warrior of a PG is a true leader. One of the most important positions in all of basketball. The Point Guard. When's the last time Jose Calderon led the Raptors to anything starting with a postseason appearance? The answer would be two. Two first round exits. He's now 31 years old. Been in the league for 8 years. One of those postseason appearances? He only started 11 games at 21.0 minutes per.

I know it's more than Gay and Jose. But, in my eyes? Memphis will miss Gay a whole lot more than they'll enjoy Toronto's players moving forward.

Overall talents with this type of athletic athleticism doesn't grow off threes. The Eastern Conference/Atlantic Division just got a little tougher. With a solid piece to build around in Gay.

NOw Jose just needs to asked to be bought out and the Knicks swoop in right. Bynum, Knight, Stuckey, and now Calderon. That's a lot of back up pgs in D-town

Rudy Gay is a 2nd-3rd tier star. He is like Igoudala. Both have the physical tools and skills to be way better players.

How do you think this trade will effect the knicks?...toronto has now improved
Knicks should be improved: win about 40 games and maybe sneak into the playoffs. Melo, Rose and even Noah will have some nice moments however this team should be about PORZINGUS. the sooner they make him the primary player, the better

Define 2nd/3rd tier star?
Was Harden a 2/3rd tier star in OKC?
Is Harden a top tier star now?

The role in which one plays and what option he is to the team does not define the talents, skills, and abilities of the player
Many here thought he was NOT a max player and I said he was a ALL STAR playing as the the 3rd option behind Durant/Westbrook

He is a notch below Melo in terms of scoring but with more athleticism and is younger
Rudy Gay went from being the #1 option in his first 2 years to being the 2nd/3rd option and he sacrificed his touches with the talent of ZBO, Randolph, *previously OJ MAYO too*, and the development of Conley

Memphis will miss Gay's athleticism, abilities, and defense, sacrificing talent and 1 less BALL dominant for better ball movement/chemistry
However, they did NOTHING in terms of getting back value, no real assets, young players *ED Davis is young role player not STUD*, picks *2nd round pick? that is a joke*, and No trade exemption to use for the future

I do not think that Gay was used to his max potential in Memphis and a trade may help him as he can now be the best player and #1 option in Toronto
Gay and ZBO both were injured each for 1 year or more, as the other one took turns leading the team in the season/playoffs
But they seem to take away each other's shots as both are ball dominant in order to be effective

MKG will need to see how he is next year as he improves but too early to determine for now

Josh Smith/Harden are not true SF's so I leave them off the list

Hey, aren't you missing someone:

I'm just messing, but you forgot Durant. I agree with the list except for Iggy. I think he's better than Gay now and I think George and Batum might leapfrog him next year as well. They are already playing at a similar level.

George has been playing SF with Granger out. It's probably not a coincidence that George's game has taken off since. I don't buy him as a shooting guard at this point in his career.

Good for them
but

Too bad if I were Knicks I'd offer up any combo of Novacs+J.White OR Novacs+Copeland
to one of them teams like Raptors for Ed Davis OR Amir Johnson & a pick

Or do same deal for Andre Drummond of Pistons.

Knicks need a valid Board-rebounder man with few offensive Skills

Amir, Davis or Drummond would be great in NY for knickerbockers and
can close the gap area's such as toughness /rebounding.

Crazy trade, but you can't argue it, really. Now do people believe that the Grizzlies have some serious financial issues? Maybe now we can stop bashing them for penny pinching; it really has to do with what it takes to keep the team running effectively.

I still find the new CBA ironic. It's a death sentence for small market teams. They get good enough to compete and then they are forced to trade one of their stars to keep the payroll low. Wasn't the idea to penalize the big market teams? Hilarious.

Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.

I think Parsons is definitely improving and his numbers say so too. I am a little bias but he looks like he is on the right track.

Their starting roster is just as good as any in the Western Conference

Rudy Gay is one of the top SF's after Lebron/Durant

I would be surprised if Toronto did not have to part with Derozan or/and Terrence Ross for this deal to happen

Gay is the 3rd best player on that team. They don't need him. They could get by with JR Smith at SF.

Gay and Derozan on the same team.

This will help the west get stronger and the east get weaker.

I think Memphis is stupid because they coulda been a contender... coulda been somebody. That said, Ed Davis is a baller and smart to cash in now while Toronto thinks they should keep Bargnani

honestly the should make it easier to acquire draft picks... at least the small market clubs would get to develop stars before their owner has a chance to sell that player to a bigger market

not enough to bother noticing. Calderon was the player that would hurt us. Gay won't give them what Jose did when it comes to perimeter defense and point guard play. Jose was the engine that made that teams go, even if it was going nowhere fast.

the fact that you can't even have an unrelated thread without some tool here bringing him up make me think that rational minds are few and far between. Bunch of emotionally weak, angst riddled people. I mean, how many times can you argue the same shyt
