They can make it but they'll get embarrassed in the first round. KG and Pierce still have good trade value. They could set their team up quite nicely for the future if they make some good moves. Rondo will probably be ready for the start of next season.
these guys are really in a bad spot when it comes to KG and Pierce. With all the records that Pierce holds, i'm sure they would like him to retire as a Celtic. Also, KG is probably the last player to show that famed Celtic grit. Any movement of either player might resultin serious fan backlash.
THe backlash happens anyway when the losing continues and the fans start calling for Pierce to retire or KG to come off the bench.
Best thing is for Pierce to either retire or play for the 5mil next year. If pride and money come before the team its just a matter of time before the ugly starts.
What would it take to get Rudy Gay?
I think Rudy Gay is at an all time low right now in terms of value for his production since he was drafted
In terms of talent, size/length/strength, athleticism, skills, versatility, and potential he is right after Lebron/Durant
2nd tier of SUPERSTARS *outside of C position*
Kobe/Harden/Westbrook/Melo/ CP3/ Rose *injured*,
3rd tier
Jrue Holiday *could argue he is 2nd tier*, Irving, Deron, Rhondo, Monta, Jennings, Batum
Gay and Dwade are putting up not as good numbers this year so far as their talent/potential is capable of but Rudy Gay has the ability of a 2nd tier STAR is young while Wade has been taking a beating with his play
Klove/Aldridge/Bosh/Dirk kind of PF/C so want to leave them out discussion because their will be a lot of other players that would be in the discussion as well
Melo/Rudy Gay
The have differences and similarities between each other, aside from their *STATS* this year
Gay's athleticism, physical abilities are greater than Melo's physical abilities/athleticism
Gay has ability to rise up and shoot over almost ANYONE, as well as post up for midrange like Melo, can post up smaller guards/forwards, quicker/faster/more dangerous on the fast break and penetrate/finish with a explosive DUNK. I am not saying Gay is better, I am saying he is more explosive and his physical abilities allow him to do much more than Melo
Also at his age, he has not peaked yet
Melo is very strong for his size but he not the athlete and skilled like Lebron/Durant, in fact he is a notch below Gay and many other players
Gay has the ability to be a lock down defender at the G/F position, while he has not improved in this area enough
Unlike Melo, This year, Gay has not been asked to be the 1st option, playing off ZBO/Marc Gasol as sometimes the 3rd option
But if Gay was put in NY in Melo's opportunity, being force fed, he has the ability to put great STATS as well, similar to Melo, with more STEALS/BLOCKS and higher FG%
He has a huge advantage when he played the SG position with his ability to dominate on the post or on the wing with his physical talents
If players were to look to make him the #1 option here in NY, without Melo here, he would be putting up great numbers compared to what he has done this year
I think he needs a change in scenery to motivate him again and I would love to acquire him in 2015 with Love or Aldridge if we cannot get Lebron
Gay can somewhat play SG *dominate*/SF/ and even undersized PF like how Melo does it in NY with the right players around him
A reason why Melo attains GREAT numbers/stats is because he is FORCING the issue a lot, he has improved his 3point shooting very much since going to NY especially under Hopla's training
He takes and hits many low % shots which can be good and negative thing since he will repeat it
I am not saying I would trade Melo for Gay, just pointing out the difference in salary Melo could be vs the ability and salary Gay would have
I think if Melo can put his ego aside, they could both be work together very well, and be a nightmare for many teams to defend
