Woodson's philosophy of letting his players play has to do with him trying to keep his job

i can see that maybe end of last season, but not any more, dude just got his contract. He wants to win games, if he benches Melo, JR, who else can pick up the slack in the way those guys can?

You think Woody did the right thing by keeping JR in the Boston game?

I don't mean bench him the rest of the game. Sit him immediately after a serious of bad shots and turnovers. Rip into him on the bench which he's done before but have him sit a while. Send some kind of message to get him to play smarter. It would be better in the long run especially come playoff time even if you have to sacrifice a regular season game.

Not as worried about JR as I am about Melo keeping his word about trusting his teammates especially Amare

I think Woody is sending the right message. Even though JR's shot has sucked the past several games, he still hustles on D. That's what Cope needs to figure out.

Woody rips JR a LOT during games, you just haven't seen it or aren't paying attention.

I've seen it but he puts him right back in the game. He needs to sit him for an extended stretch I think. I don't know have to try something. Maybe JR will never be consistent but if one day a coach is able to get him to be consistent he will win coach of the year

and who are you playing in JR's minutes considering Felton was down until last game, Shump just came back, Kidd back hurting?

Are you ready to give White minutes knowing that he would need to play SG and also initiate offense for the team and carry some scoring load for team and be asked to play solid D?

Just suggesting that Woodson try it once. Nothing longterm. Just thinking how Pops would handle JR. Pops/Thibs would sacrifice a quarter for what is better for the team in the long run

I don't get why the ball is in JR's hands when he is in the game with Prigioni when Felton was out. Doesn't that fall on the coach?

Its a shame Novak gets minutes over Copeland. I was a big Novak fan last year but teams have figured him out and he cant do anything else besides shoot and his shooting hasnt even been good this year

he's not getting as many shots, etc. and yes his defense is bad, but he's not shooting bad dude, he's shooting a generaly quite impressive 3pt%
I will admit to being on the same boat with you on the Copeland over Novak debate.

I have been saying that, at least Woodson no longer plays Novak and Copeland together and preach DEFENSE
It just isn't possible, with their lack of speed/quickness/athleticism/DEF is just going to be WEAK on every play
Many here keep looking at his height, assume cause he can shoot 3's, he can play SF, it just doesn't work that way...

Copeland is probably closest to a PF and closer to Stretch-Center than a SF

Novak is position less *closest to a PF on DEF, a reason why he does not find many minutes*
there is a reason why Dunleavy/Kyle Korver/Danny Green, even a broken down Mike Miller and many other players in the league are much better players than Novak
They are just much more skilled, much better defensively, and bring so much more to the table

DEFENSIVELY, Novak need's to behind a very strong defensive core that can cover his deficiency's
Something

Lin
Shumpert/JR
Fields/Novak
JJ/Novak
CHandler/JJ

all did very well and we were a a TOP DEFENSIVE team during that run...

Novak and Copeland is virtually the same player except Cope can dribble a little better and post up slightly. I think Novak is valuable but I would definitely look to trade him for Dunleavy.

I guess you can say Copeland and Novak are a lot like James Jones. James rarely plays now but can sometimes provide that spark.

Knicks need shooters badly. Novak is guaranteed to keep his man at home. Copeland not so much.

Dont get me wrong I have no problem keeping Copeland another year he is more useful than James White by a large margin.
