I see Shump's potential as Gary Payton on steroids as well.

He can have a similar effect on Defense but, looking at his physical mannerisms, I don't see any Gary Payton there.

Physical mannerisms?? HUH?

Someone compared him to Eddie Jones which seems close. It's really to early and we just have to see what jumps he make in his game.

Thats a really good one. I remember that comparison. I'd say worst case scenario he is Eddie Jones imo. Great defensive player, pretty good offensively but not great. Poor man's Spree.

Its unusual for a player to WANT to play defense but Shump is that kinda player. He takes great pride in his defense and that trickles down to the other players.IMHO

Not so much in the mannerisms or looks, but like you said his effect on defense from the guard position.

He has Defensive Player of the Year potential, like how Payton won it in 1996. He has NBA All Defensive 1st team potential, Payton made it a record 9 times.

So not so much in style of play per se, but in being an absolute defensive stopper and also being a 2 way player.

How would it be having 2 DPOY on one team? Has that ever happened before?

Iman Shumpert doesn't need a comparison he' will have announcer comparing other people to him

Even Jeff Vandummy ws all over him as a rookie saying how great he was as a lockdown defender.

He gave wade the business by striping him a few times before he was hurt in the playoffs.

Shumpert also tripped up Derrick Rose a few more times, these are some of the most explosive guys in the association.

Knicks will never trade this guy.

JAMES DOLAN on Isiah : He's a good friend of mine and of the organization and I will continue to solicit his views. He will always have strong ties to me and the team.

Look what we have for the rest of the year along with Prigioni laying it up for these boys to feast.
Can't wait to see all 3 of them on the court together.

what, you've never heard the term before? What about body language? They way someone walks, stands, they way they carry themselves i.e.: Physical mannerisms.

the fact that you can't even have an unrelated thread without some tool here bringing him up make me think that rational minds are few and far between. Bunch of emotionally weak, angst riddled people. I mean, how many times can you argue the same shyt

Shump is awesome. Dont get too attached

so where does he end up? Denver, Houston, Golden state or Portland.. LOL.. Just kidding.. yea, i thought shump/lin would be the future back court, but that would take an owner with a brain and a plan, and a front office with some balls to stand up to the impetuous and childish, moronic owner... but hey, as you said.. don't get too attached...

We came very, very close to trading him to the Suns for Nash this offseason, I think- thankfully the Lakers stepped in and saved us from ourselves.

they sure did, but honestly, the way this team is built, getting nash actually made sense, but you can even see in LA that the ball tends to end up in the hands of kobe when it should be in nash hands a bit more.. i was afraid the same thing could and would happen here had nash come.. so maybe it worked out for the best.. for us at least....

Nash on this team makes little to no sense. Nash plays absolutely no defense whatsoever.

you seem to have misread what I wrote because I said he seems more like Spree. You obviously have no familiarity with the term which isn't rare and is a real term but, I guess it depends on the circles one travels.

I don't get the infatuation with some over Latrell Sprewell. He wasn't a great defender, he never led the league in steals, he only made the All NBA Defensive 2nd Team once. Why set the bar so low for Shumpert?

I mean Latrell had a very good run with us for the lockout shortened season in '99, but overall his Knicks career was a mere footnote.

I did love his timely gamble steals leading to dunks though. Shumpert has the potential to be much much more than Latrell Sprewell. Why not a Hall of Famer in the Glove?

your not taking into account that he was a 2guard forced to guard bigger forwards and more often then not the best wing man on the opposing team. Houston was allowed to play the two spot and Spree has to make up for his defensive deficiencies.
He was a better than average defender and likely would have had a higher scoring average had he been allowed to play his natural position.
