I with you!

I think he is deserving and not calling into question what they are doing. I just think as a player Mcnemara is equally if not more deserving and as another posted a bit unsettling for a one and done player.

Seems Kentucky is going to run out of numbers if they retire all the one and done super freshman who help the team win the tournament!

They don't retire numbers of supporters who give money do they?

Yea, I don't think John Wall, Demarcus Cousins, or MKG donated $3million to build a practice facility in Kentucky yet.

I dont really get celebrating a guy who didnt even graduate, but like I said... thats just the system.

Believe Melo donated $3 million to Syracuse to build a new practice facility. Just winning the title as a freshman, brought in alot of money for the University, and drum up alot of recruits.

It's pretty deserved.

its a funny thing for cuse. If your a college how do you retire a jersey when the guy only played one season and quit school? Isnt that kind of rewarding everything thats wrong with NCAA and these programs? They are a total minor league for the NBA...

This is not a dig on Melo. Your 100% right. He's totally embraced his alumn and might even have some guilt about leaving early, but hey he gave back after what cuse did for his hoops career right? You have to respect that regardless of his motives or feelings. Thats a good job by Melo.

I just find the paradox interesting.

Myself, I wouldn't reward Melo for the jersey retirement after just the 1 year and the Chip at 'Cuse.

Like you mentioned, it's the fact that he keeps giving back to the program, and keeps going back there, that support the jersey retirement.

Yup exactly. Just have to make sure that others understand that it is not entirely based on Melo's play at Cuse. If thats the case than a lot of players deserve to have their college jersey retired. Does MJ have his UNC jersey retired? Ewing Georgetown? Lebron and Kobe would deserve it as well had they attended college and won the national title

Don't mean to interject but why should Melo feel guilty about leaving early???..The school made out like bandits and has made millions in actual dollars not to mention the free publicity for the University as a whole because of the basketball program when Melo was there?...Why is it your view that Melo benefited because of Syracuse and not the other way around??..They have made tons off this and wining the NCAA Championship...I'm neither an advocate of a Jersey retirement or anything of the sort but u have to understand Melo brought these guys a lot of money outside of his personal gifts...

It's the 1st NCAA championship the school has ever won, Melo just didn't lead his school to a title his play brought other players to that school, they owe Melo that much.

and that is perfectly cool to do! Thats how it works and its an honor. DOn't even have to be an alum to do it. Give money, alot of it and they name a building.

I can't control if someone digests it as haterate when I bring up another player who I think deserves it even more. Gerry don't have 3mm to get the practice gyme named, but dude put in 4 years and was a key to the chip as well.

Maybe in time. Maybe they he can be the lead coach in a few years when Jim steps down and take the program to high levels.

Does number of years some spent at a school matter or the impact a player have on a program???..Gerry was key in brining Cuse a title but was he the impact player Melo was while at Cuse...Did he bring notoriety or publicity to the program as Melo did??..If the answer is yes, then why would Cuse make such a move??..If the answer is no, couple with the money Melo has donated, why do you have a problem with his Jersey being retired??

Hey this is a feel good blog about Melo and someone always have to bring the damn thing down to something negative. Look some kids playing in the NCAA have parents whos homes are being forclosed on. The colleges get all the money and if the players get $100.00 as a gift he commited a sin. Melo is being honored because he bought them a championship and he gave back to the college I don't care and don't want to compare the retirement of his jersey to anyone else. This was a feel good moment for me and the people who retired his number. Because that moment in time when Melo won that championship he was not taking any drug enhansments it was his talent. Now for those who can't stand that put up your own little blog complaining about him getting his number retired. I didn't mean for it to be a negative view or how come Jordan, or Ewing Didn't get one. It's about Melo and no one else. Please don't hate on the one.

Is this what its about? A feel good moment gets ruined by a point of view you don't agree with?

This is not "circlejerkulitimateknicks.com" is it?

Fishmike won't go to syracuse and ruin the party. Im 12 hours away and I promise I won't crash the party either. This is about syracuse. If they want to honor the man, have at it.

I agree with Papa. Not sure why there seems to be a hunt to find away to turn something positive into a negative or minimize it all the time on this forum especially when it is about Melo.

At the same time one might say the same thing that not every bit of nice news is some fairy tale either. Is it nice for melo? Sure. Help him sell sneakers? Ok. Its no negative, but its not getting us closer to a championship.

There are maybe three people that don't like melo. Don't Lump everyone. Thinking its a bit over the top is not hate.

is your reading as poor as papabears also? What negative was said? I said GOOD JOB by Melo. What the hell is wrong with you people? Obvious as I mentioned in another thread. You cant discuss anything Melo around here becaused people arent capable of discussing it without throwing an emotional snit and crying about negativitiy.

My only comment was its curious that a school celebrates someone who quit after one year. Is Syracuse a basketball team or a college with a basketball program? Melo had nothing else to accomplish in cuse

Sorry... I didnt realize this was a non-discussion thread, and only a circlejerk over Melo's greatness. I will bow out and allow the rubbing off to continue. Hoping I didnt ruin it for anyone. Sorry guys

I said he was deserving. Never said he should not have it. I said its a bit over the top in light of others that deserve it. He has a building named after him for his generous donation.

Whats over the top? Lets reread the first sentence of this first post in this thread:

Papabear Says

We should all be proud of this. After all Melo is a Knick and he will lead us to the championship.

Basketball news gathered from around the net.
Syracuse To Retire Carmelo's Jersey
Jan 17, 2013 6:39 PM EST
Syracuse will retire the jersey of former star Carmelo Anthony later this season.
Anthony led Syracuse to the national championship as a freshman in 2003.
Anthony was named the Big East's Rookie of the Year and the Most Outstanding Player at the Final Four.
Via Mike Waters/ From the Real GM

Lets break it down one more time real slow.

"We should be proud of this, after all he is a knick"............

Ok, but he has played only 2 seasons with us and while he has played real well, at all star levels the knicks have not had a break out moment yet. Its not on him that our playoff experience has been shallow because its a team game, but as our best player our team is not good enough previously. We talking 9 years ago he won as a teenager in a syracuse uniform. Papa is asking "we should all be proud", well I can say im not ashamed by any means, but being proud of him does not equate. should it look like:

Nalod: Wow, thats great! (standing up straighter) Really good, way to go, Sniff-Sniff.

Mrs Nalod: Whats up?

Nalod: reading the paper here, Melo is getting his number retired! (chest puffed out) Wow, thats so cool, he really done well, Sniff-Snff

Mrs. Nalod: You have a tear coming from your eye?

Nalod: Naw, thats some of my Love for Melo leaking out, you know, my man awesome water!

Mrs. Nalod: You need Meds again?

nalod: Hater!!! LEAVE MELO ALONE! (runs off to other room)

Mrs Nalod: Sorry dear, please come back and talk this with me! Don't just hit "the ignore button"!

Nalod: Honey, "Melo is knick, and he will lead us to a championship!"

Mrs. Nalod: : are we living in a comic book? You do realize you think that has anything to do with the love they feel for him in Syracuse? They wish to bestow that honor on being the leader of his team then. YOu didn't go to Syracuse remember?

Nalod: Yeah, well if knicks win it all they will retire his number in NY!!!!

Mrs. Nalod: Thats right honey, and when it happens it will be great!

Nalod: Your just a Net fan! You, you just like them! and, and their best player quit on them and got their coach fired!

Mrs. Nalod: And those words coming out of your mouth don't ring a bell?

Nalod: Yeah, but their owner is a pompus arrogant man who thinks he owns the world!

Mrs. Nalod: Still a familiar theme my love. That also resonating with you?

Nalod: So your saying I am getting too ahead of my self and maybe knicks are better this year, which is great but to wrap myself in the warm fuzzy of a championship as if it is our divine right is presumptuous?

Mrs Nalod: Thats a bingo!

Nalod: You wash my PJ's?, im going to bed now.

Mrs Nalod: I put them on your chair, sweet dreams!
