OBM is back!

I love the posts by which you post those things that make you better than most people.

Most of us really have to wear shoes. Most employment opportunities kinda makes it the norm.

I think most pro athletes don't get this condition and guess they are wearing athletic footware when they work.

Do you think that beach volleyball players suffer from this?

Im not saying its wrong, but you think pro atheletes have weak foot muscles?

Mine flares up the more I play and work out. I doubt they are getting weaker when this happens.

It's actual a pretty common condition with volleyball in general, any sport that requires impact to the heel area can cause it.

It's one of those weird injuries that they don't seem to fully understand- they guess it might have something to do with shoes, but really if that was the case wouldn't more people get it? It seems to come out of no where, lasts on and off for a year, then most players seem to be fine for the rest of their careers.

I haven't worn 'proper' shoes in 28 years and my feet are fine (starts rubbing ache on sole of foot).

Kurt Thomas is a candidate to be cut to add Martin.

I mind Camby being out everytime I think about the Trade/How old he is/How much he makes/Team tax

I think Smits had a number of foot issues. I think Tyreke Evans had it in his second year, so I guess it's not just the taller players.

Plantar fasciitis isn't caused by weak muscles. It's basically inflammation of the arch of your foot, which is a connective tissue. It can be brought about by poor quality shoes, underdeveloped arches (something like flat feet), overuse or carrying more weight. The last two seem more likely for Camby.

The tricky part of this injury is that's it's so case by case that you can't take any timetable without a grain of salt. It's treated by rest, stretching and reducing the pain. Camby could be back tomorrow, in the given timetable, or be out longer. It all depends on how fast it heals and if it settles down enough for him to play on it.

What I don't understand about it is what's the surgery? If it's just inflammation, what do they actually operate on? (they usually say surgery is an option, but usually players go with that).

oh it's not weak muscles? walk/run barefoot for a few months and see if you continue to have this problem,

it took me a few weeks of gradually increasing barefoot walking/running until i was comfortable enough to go at it all the time,

i walk on pebbles, concrete, dirt paths, sand you name it, the human foot can handle it,

it's not unreasonable to say that pro nba ballers can have weak feet, you can be strong all over but if you're in cushioned shoes all the time...

weak foot muscles aren't something that will keep you from competing in your sport, at least not until you develop something like camby,

think of all the nba ballers with back pain, great example is toni kukoc, he had back pain later in his career because he had a weak back, if he strengthened his back he might have extended his career,

pro athletes are still humans and subject to all types of weaknesses, remember that sports are specialized, which means that they favor specific movement patterns,

if it's inflammation of a connective tissue, what exactly do you think the connective tissue connects? the foot musculature is very fine but important and a general atrophy brought on by an over-reliance on cushioned footwear can mess you up, mess you up bad,

you don't need an academic study to justify everything in life, start walking barefoot and stick with it, see what happens,

it's likely your plantar fasciitis symptoms will get worse in the beginning but will gradually improve as he weeks go by, eventually you will have a strong foot,

also, beach volleyball is different than regular volleyball, one is on sand and barefoot, the other is in shoes and on artificial surface,

the connective tissue isn't sitting there in a vacuum, you have to look at the entire foot,

Now I have it myself but not to the degree it keeps me off the tennis court.

Its a tough word to spell.

Seems like Kenyan Martin would be a perfect fit with Sheed and KT. Practice would be a hoot to watch as those old guys go at it.

I first heard of it when we picked up Glen Rice. Its the reason he kept citing for his inability to play.

I heard of it from Deion Sanders, Turf Toe forced him to retire.

Remember that season when Glen Rice was playing out of his mind- think he said it was because his wife had told him he was playing soft or something? As is so often the case, by the time he signed with us, he was done.

Just did a search on youtube for Glen Rice highlights, and found this: the entire game 1 of the 1997 playoff series of the Knicks vs the Hornets (split into 11 parts)- good times!

Here's a link that'll show you a couple of different ones and you can also find videos if that's your thing. The main one is that they go in and cut part of the ligament, but it's pretty rare because the injury isn't fully understood by medical science and because non surgical treatment works well.
